Cut the guy some slack regarding the Jakarr-to-UNLV comment. He immediately followed that statement by saying Pelle -- who's supposedly is headed to UNLV per the latest rumors -- still might commit to St. John's. Sounds like someone simply gave him "transposed" information on these two guys, which he, in turn, reported. One would hope Crispino would have caught the mix up, but let's face it: not everyone in the local media -- including our "own" announcer -- follows day-to-day information on our potential recruits as closely as passionately we do. He's just a hired hand -- nothing more, nothing less -- who shows up at game time and reads what's handed to him.
That's not a good broadcaster then. You do your research. Plus we are talking about Crispino here. He's not a national guy and heck he was former STJ broadcaster.
Agree that a good broadcaster doesn't need to read from notes, but sometimes in the heat of a live broadcast guys make mistakes. As for misidentifying a player's name, that's hardly unusual, especially if the broadcaster is looking at the action on the court and not his monitor. I'm sure we've all heard worse flubs from much better broadcasters, so all I'm saying is to write him off as "lame" is a bit harsh. (What bothered me more was the interviewer at halftime saying that St. John's had shown interest in Pecora at one time, but that he picked Fordham over St. John's, or words to that effect. Now, that's lame.)
