JaKarr Sampson

Let's say a perfect storm happened and we got Sampson, Gathers, and Obekpa. Wouldn't a starting lineup be:

Branch-PG
Harrison-SG
Harkless-SF
Gathers-PF
Obekpa-C

I believe in Coach landing this group but he might not start on our team, no less Baylor as I think someone else mentioned.

From what I've seen I don't think Obekpa would start with this group but play a lot of minutes off the bench as a Freshman.

Agree. Gift would start at center next to Gathers and obekpa off the bench. Obekpa would get plenty of time sharing with Gift.

I think Gathers and Sampson would start.

The best part is that if everyone comes back and we land the three big guys we hope to, our second team would be Obekpa, Achiuwa, Pointer, Garrett, and Greene. That's a nasty bench.

Either Obekpa or GG would have to start. ptherwise dont have a true center.

This isn't the NBA. You can win with a short center.

Question is, can we get both?

Yes we can, there would be ample minutes for both players.

I don't really agree. I say we get 1. Neither is going to want to share the minutes.

A previously very reliable NBA source at the Gtown game told me that the odds of Moe leaving after this year are very high. Not etched in stone but the guy is passing every test and the league loves potential so space isn't likely going to be a problem. Too many minutes are a dangerous thing statwise. Ask Omar Cook.

disagree to start the year at least. if gathers and sampson are all they are touted to be I could see it by the end of december but I can't see GG, a senior, getting bumped right away for a freshman when he is putting decent numbers up this year. I think Branch will start from the moment he is eligible (IHMO)

It's hard to pass up NBA money but Moe would benefit so much from another year of development. I guess you can work on your game while coming off the bench for an NBA team but I hope he looks at guys like Lance Stevenson or even worst, Omar Cook, who left early and struggled or didn't make it at all.

We'd love to have you JaKarr, make it happen.

With respect to Moe's NBA prospects, I'm sure that he could get drafted if he left after this season, but there is no guarantee that he'd get a 1st round selection. And if you are a freshmen, there is no reason to jump to the NBA if you are not assured a 1st round position. No guaranteed money.

No doubt Mo will be draft able this year. He'd be better served putting on 15 lbs, getting his range worked out and back for one more year. Being honest, I dont think he needs more thn two years here, but one more would certainly benefit him a ton.

With all do respect to Gift, he would not be starting if we landed both Gathers and Sampson. Sampson was made to be playing side-by-side with Harkless. Gathers is a much stronger and explosive player than Gift...and will be a better rebounder from jump street.

Evan Daniels seems convinced JaKarr's not coming to SJ's next year. Not sure what he bases it on, but that was his guesstimate. T. Robinson's (KU) a Jr, but will probably go NBA next year. I still say Smith "pushes" JS that way. I hope not, but we'll see.

I don't know who you spoke to bobre, but this would be a horrible year for Mo to come out with guys like 6'10 Perry Jones, 6'10 John Henson, 6'8 Harrison Barnes, 6'9 Terrence Jones, 6'8 Thomas Robinson, 6'7 Kidd-Gilchrest leaving early and seniors like Buford, Kris Joseph, Drammond Green, Kevin Jones, and Herb Pope.

Harkless is shooting 68% from the line and 24% from three. He is also playing PF and C and has not proven he can guard wings. I think we see Mo for 3-4 years before he is a first rounder.

Isn't Evan Daniels the OK State guy who insisted D'Angelo was headed to OK state, or am I thinking about somebody else? I think we have a good shot at Jakarr.

Daniels doesn't know his ass from his elbow.  :silly:

Your observation is right on. Moe would definitely be a 1st round pick if he came out this year. The question is how high in the 1st round. Another year of school where he could get stronger and could do some more work on his game would probably get him into the top 5. It is just a question of what him and his family want to do.

I think I disagree with you a lot more than agree but I think you are dead on with this one. Would he get drafted, yes; first round, very possible; ready for the pros, less than Omar Cook was IMO. First, agree with your assessment of his perimeter D, but he has also not shown the ability to handle well enough to play on the wing in the NBA where you have to be able to create your own shot something he has not shown at all. No knock on the kid, he is a legitimate talent, but the NBA, nowhere near ready. Obviously that doesn't mean he won't go and if he was somehow assured of first round money who could blame him? But from what I've seen I can't believe he is anywhere near that secure.
