JaKarr Sampson

Per NBE Basketball....

Jakarr Sampson (Brewster Academy 2012) – Sampson was one of the only players for Brewster able to have success in the paint against the imposing presence of Nerlens Noel. He is a superb 6’8” athlete who likes to catch from the mid post and use 1 dribble to the rim. Sampson also uses his athleticism to crash the offensive glass grabbing 5 rebounds on that end and finishing 2 of them off with spectacular tip dunks. His perimeter shot and ability to use more than a couple dribbles need more work but Sampson can impact the highest levels of college basketball already with his above the rim athleticism.

Damn, Ed Cooley and the whole staff AND some players at Sampson's game. I hear Sampson is also going to visit Louisville.

The game was in their backyard so doesnt say much to me.

Also technically Prov has 0 schollies I think. Some fanagling to get Noel or Jakarr is in order.

They have followed him everywhere. FWIW the game played today was 5 minutes from their campus

A few guys are leaving

I don't think Jakarr will go to Providence. Baylor and KU bigger threats methinks. Why Jakarr would choose providence over SJU is beyond me anyway.

Dont know why he would either but they have been relentless after him

Cooley is a terrific recruiter.
Providence will be a player again, and I'm happy for them.

Agree about Cooley. Still don't see why Jakarr would pick providence over SJU.

Providence probably will eventually be a player again, but I also agree with MCN. IMO, if Providence lands Noel then I'll be convinced about them being a serious player. They are off to a good start with Dunn and Ledo. Although, I'm still holding out on what I think about Ledo at this moment. A good talent, but he also seems like a kid who could end up being a player who causes chemistry issues.

Let's land Sampson and keep this train rolling!

Kansas has 4 high-rated forwards (Perry Ellis, Andrew White, Zach Peters, and Landen Lucas) coming in next year, plus Ben McLemore and Jamari Traylor who didnt qualify this year. That seems like a horrible SF/PF playtime situation even without Jakarr.

Ledo is subtraction by addition.

Exactly right. At SJU he'd work in nicely at both forward spots. Kansas is loaded at forward.

Wow. I had been concerned about KU, but i hadn't thought about their roster situation. There is a TON of competition for Jakarr at KU.

But think of it this way, other schools are probably telling him: "SJU is returning a pre-season All American at your position, they have 2 returning forwards, and are recruiting two more."

I'm sure Lav is explaining that he wants to play him and Moe together. But, there's an argument that we have a number of combo forwards on the roster and are still trying to sign Shepard and Gathers too.
