JaKarr Sampson

FWIW. I hear we are in good shape with Mr. Sampson.

We'll see. I'll believe it when he commits to SJU. He can at any time. I think Gathers to Baylor can only help us with Sampson because Gathers was direct competition for PT here at SJU. While Sampson isn't as strong as Gathers right now, he's a bit taller, a better athlete and more crafty with the ball on offense. He's also an excellent rebounder. If we do land Jakarr, he will offset the loss of Gathers. Our forwards become really long and athletic with Jakarr in there. We'll see though. Would like to see him here. He's got great upside and fits our style real well.

Completely agree, I'll believe when he commits

Why not? Looking at tonight's disaster could motivate him; he can't help but feel he can be a major player on this young team. It doesn't always have to have a negative effect.

Some of these over-the-top/negative noobs will never understand, Jack. They'll spin it as they are being realist. :$

Sampson goes to Kansas to visit his buddy Tharpe for the Mizzou game. Tharpe has played a total of eight minutes the last eight games, with four DNP's. Not very encouraging for a forward being recruited to join a loaded stable of forwards.

Kansas has 6'7 220 Jamari Traylor practicing already this spring and eligible in fall 2012. They have commitments from 6'8 PF/C Landen Lucas, 6'8 PF Perry Ellis (five stars), 6'7 four-star SF Andrew White, and some 6'9 three star PF I haven't heard of. 2011 five-star Ben McLemore is also practicing now and eligible next spring.
Kansas returns three starters: a 7'0 center, a 6'4 combo guard, and a 6'6 SF. They return two key forward subs, 6'8 and 6'8, playing a combined 21 mpg. Remember, these kids back up Thomas Robinson.

Sampson won't see the floor at Kansas next season, and he's already had to wait a year extra to play. I would be SHOCKED if he made the same mistake his buddy Tharpe made.

Perry Ellis is a STUD. Traylor is very physical and way underrated.

Update today on rivals. Brewster coach doing most of the talking. Doesn't make it seem like Jakarr will be deciding anytime soon. Baylor, Kansas, Providence, Louisville, & Florida are all involved. Duke beginning to show some interest.

In terms of making a decision, Smith says that Sampson is in no rush even with April's signing period approaching.

"I think that he's being much more deliberate this time around," Smith said. "Last time when he committed to St. John's he just took one visit and committed, and was done by September. This time around he's taking more visits, developing more of a relationship and watching more games. I think he's being more patient."

Gathers was going to wait too

That worked out the way he said

So how come all those forwards are at the same school but whenever we lose a recruit it is because we had a ghost at the same position as the recruit who spurned us?

@JonRothstein

Hearing Providence is in excellent shape with 2012 SF Jakarr Sampson. Would be another tremendous addition to Ed Cooley's monster class!

Frustrating?!?
Hot damn, this is the best news I've heard all week!
If Rothstein says Providence, it means Jakarr is a lock to STJ!

LOL I know you're clowning around, but Rothstein has put out some good info. I'm not particularly liking the sound of his tweet. I guess all we can do is wait it out.

It'd be a shame considering how hard Coach Adubato is working to recruit Jakarr to STJ.

I still wanna know where Providence is getting all these scholarships from.

They will pull a current player's ship. That's how.

I have expressed my feelings in the past about going after decommits. Jakarr is no different. Suffice it to say coaches like Boeheim and Calhoun would have written decommits off on day one.....as much as we dislike them, they get it.

I feel pretty confident Lavin will be bringing in 2 JC's with no academic issues, Winston Shephard has become priority #2 behind Obekpa and a surprise secret mystery recruit ---- just to get all the juices flowing here!

I take all the negative sky is falling fans with a grain of salt. Fans that are the enemies from within the family are the worst kind of fan. They tend to be ILL Bills, Chroniccomplainers, Upstate North of Nowhere,PhonyBaloneyMaloney and a host host of other sellouts. When the going gets tough, they are all congregate in the same bar called No Hope Saloon.

I think the worst kind of fan is an ignorant one or one, i.e., one who puts their head in the sand. I can't wait to hear you two months from now. "Trust in Lavin" Priority No. 1 is getting Joe Shmo from Po Dunk JC while priority No. 2 is getting . . ." There aren't many prime time recruits on the board. Btw -- it would not shock me if Branch left (he has not signed a LOI). We are in a world of hurt right now. Wake up and smell the coffee!

I've gotten that vibe that PC is in really good shape with him but I still dont understand why in the world he would chose them over us
