Jakarr Sampon get deal with 76ers!

I love it when a plan comes together, says everyone in the Sixer front office.

Jakarr logs 26 minutes, 4 pts, 5 reb, 3 assists, Living the dream.
It's still hard to fathom how this came together this way. Wasn't drafted, barely made a roster, didn't do anything to blow anyone away in pre-season, and suddenly starting and getting more minutes than most rookies? Not trying to bash Jakarr, happy for him, but what did he do to deserve this?

He signed with a team that wants to give the bad players as much time as possible, so that they can tank into (hopefully) Jahlil Okafor in the draft. Smart move on Jakarr's part, IMO.

But WTH are they going to do with Okafor, Embid AND Noel? That's what I'm wondering. PS I was looking over their roster after this got me thinking and the 76ers do not have a single player on the roster listed under 6'6". Just a little trivia there.

I guess, if they do get the #1 pick, a trade is not out of the question.

They will he good in 5 years if all of their picks pan out but it's possible some of these could be busts

If it were that obvious, the league would be all over the Sixers.

Why not trying that he has a soft jumper 15 feet and in that finds the bottom of the net, is one of the best pure athletes on the team, and coaches see the sky's the limit potential that excited and frustrated us during his two seasons here.

How about we are just happy, as Redmen fans, that he made the league. That's good enough for me. Too bad my free trial of NBA League Pass is over. I'm tempted to buy the package for the year, but the thought of watching the Knicks makes me think it's best to pass on the League Pass.

Read the quotes from his NBA coach and you'll learn what Sampson did right to deserve this. Sampson made the best of his opportunity and showed his coach things that fans don't see from watching a game or reading a box. The quotes are out there.

Very interesting, especially since we didn't always see those things here. Go back and read the quotes from Redmen posters lol

The quotes are the type of comments you want to read from an NBA coach about a product of your program

Here they are.

"I think JaKarr is the one that's impressed me," Brown said of the borderline players. "If we were to go rate who are the best defensive players on the team, he's amongst that handful of players. That counts for something."

Sampson won Big East rookie of the year honors as a freshman with the Red Storm. He finished his college career with 915 points and 420 rebounds.

With the Sixers, he has moved from power forward to swingman and has been a natural defensively. The jovial Sampson has also been a great locker-room guy.

"The thing I respect as much as anything about him, he comes every day with a great personality," Brown said. "He comes with life. He's got spirit. He's got energy. He's just good to coach. He's good to be around. He's great for the group."

Jakarr's lockdown defensive effort last year on Doug McDermott stands out as an example of what he could bring to the table. A better coach would have brought that same effort out on a more regular basis.

What amazes me is that more kids don't see the kind of defense that he played that night as their ticket to the NBA. There are a ton of super athletic kids that can do highlight reel dunks. The players that play smart, hard nosed defense are harder to find.

Yikes. Sixers fall to 0-11. If they can't beat the Knicks the next game, 0-17 or worse could be on the horizon. Sampson with a DNP coach's decision after signing Richard Covington 4 days ago from the D-league (14 minutes tonight) and calling up Drew Gordon (11 minutes tonight) from D-league on 11/10. Covington is the 9th undrafted player the Sixers have signed this year. Richardson and Jerami Grant remain injured.

He is shooting 12.5% from three, 24.1% from the field, and 50% form the FT line. It seems likely, Sampson will be demoted or cut when Grant and/or Richardson return.

In a related story, Eric Bledsoe said that Kentucky could definitely beat the Sixers in a game.

Not a good night for ex Johnnies. Harkless 2-8 from the field for 5 points. Three rebounds in more than 20 minutes. As for Kentucky, the NCAA may have to institute a rule for them much like the Alcindor no dunk rule. In the words of Paulie, "it isn't even fair". They don't have a college basketball program, they have a NBA on deck circle for kids below the NBA age requirement. I say give them scholarships based on the number of players they graduate, or start a separate league for schools that play college sports in name only.
