I have to remind myself that you like playing "Devil's Advocate"!!!
I'll try to remember to put a "devils advocate" disclaimer in all my posts moving forward 😏 Just keep in mind, as I referenced in my comment about Dunn, I also play devil's advocate when posters are down on players. I've done it a number of times with Jenkins. Much like Fox News, I consider myself "fair and balanced" 🤔

I have no problem with Jenkins, unless he shoots to many 3's for the teams own good.
Today was a perfect example:

He was 8-16, 0-3 from 3ball range. He should be taking mid range shots and not long range and today 13 of the 16 were good shots him going 8-13. He could still shoot the 3ball but only 2-3 a game.

When he takes 6-8 3balls it just irks the crap out of me.

For the players, there was a lot less to be gained by beating Hofstra on campus. Better to take on a tough team on an unfamiliar court.

And from a fans perspective it was nice to see a game without sweating my nuts off with a knee in my back.

With that said, there would be nothing in this world better than to watch the johnnies play Uconn at CA.

The crowd was so quiet the usher from the other side of the arena twice came over to Ralph to lower his cursing :)

The only way to counteract the success of the small lineup is for Soriano and the other SJU bigs to dominate in the paint.
There was stretch with about 4 minutes left, where we scored in the paint I think three straight times (or at least got to the line because we drove the lane). Unfortunately, Hofstra came back, and hit a 3-pointer every time, so it actually contributed to their comback, a bit.

If we defended pick and roll better we win by 15. Joel struggled with it today. Speedy went 5 out and it worked. I feel like pitino was stubborn and didn't adjust because he knows this team needs to get better in man.
Yep. Soriano doesn’t get up on it quick enough…no deterrent to the ball handler…the resultant switch breaks down our defense, it’s the one area where soriano is killing us.

Unfortunately that was also the case last year. Joel’s improved in lots of areas but not that one and good coaches will continue to be all over it.

Yep and for some reason they couldn’t get Soriano the ball much today when he had smaller players on him. Something for them to work on in practice now

It was interesting.. To your point, he doesn't hedge aggressively. It was a straight up switch. I would have had him hedged hard, although Soriano doesn't do it well, and made them beat us on the roll. Pitino is a scientist though. Must be more long term goals individually and collectively.

We had 31 free throw attempts, they had 7. That's an insane margin.
They shot 28 threes. You’re not going to get fouled when your entire offense is hoisting up 3’s.
They also weren’t big enough to deal with Soriano or physical enough to stop our penetration, so alot of reaching on defense leads to alot of fouls.
It’s not as though we were getting a homecourt whistle at UBS. As a Big East team we were just physically superior at most positions.

Today’s game is just another indicator of the parity in college basketball because there are so many talented players. With the new rating systems of four quadrants , which I am not qualified about, I do know that is dumb to schedule teams in the lowest rating rung because a win does little for a teams resume and a loss can kill post season hopes.
Better to schedule teams like Hofstra than the Mike Anderson bottom feeders. It also makes a better schedule for the fans.
