Lewis started us with energy. Soriano gets a couple of rebounds. Jenkins and Dingle made some shots. Suddenly, we look like St Johns again. Pitino made his points at halftime it would seem.
Shades of BC, close game at the half, came out of the locker room like gang busters (went up by 13), only to let them right back in the game.

Can't have any let ups. Once you have a woundered team, you gotta go for thr kill.

Really not sure why you are so down on the young man. We are at the end of December and Luis has hardly practiced since fracturing a bone in his hand in October. You could not wait until the end of the game to critique his play. It is as if you were waiting for his first mistake so that you could post your negative evaluation of his game. Come on, at least try to be objective with your evaluation. I just got home and am now reading the gametime posts.

Luis did not shoot well this game, but made 7-8 free throws ending up with 12 points, while leading the team in rebounding with 10. I am not saying he is the second coming, but to write him off after 63 minutes of play doesn't seem fair.
I run into this a bit here, far be it from me to speak for Monte but a fair amount of my posts are aimed at posters, not players. Many declared Luis a “superstar” after the Holy Cross Game for gosh sakes. IMO, Monte’s post was aimed more at posters, not Luis.

Come on Panther, I simply add some balance to the posters who are way overhyping this kid. I don't bash the kid. So when they talk about him being a likely lottery pick, I point out that he shot 2-10. I like the kid a lot and see a lot of potential in him. In case you hadn't noticed, my back and forth with Paultzman is all in good fun. Same way I would defend Dunn and go back and forth when others would put him down. No need to get all worked up over this.
I have to remind myself that you like playing "Devil's Advocate"!!!

It’s actually a pretty good win. Hofstra has actually played well when I’ve seen them. Of course, hard to get excited because it is Hofstra. No offense but talent wise we “should” beat them. I also respect Claxton. We should keep an eye on him.
Rick speaking very highly about Claxton at postgame interview (on SJU website).

Jenkins, Luis and Dingle
14-39
Soriano 5-9
That’s a little slanting the stats , Larry . Luis was 2-10 from the 2pt line . Dingle was 3-10 from 3 and Jenkins was 8-18 I think 3-4, from FT line .19 Points.

Dingle had a very quiet 2 nd half ..Luis didn’t play much as he was on Pitch count due to leg. He did not have a great shooting game , a few faulty turnovers too .But , anyone can see he’s got game .

All up. , he got some good PT , without getting his shin injuries worse 🙃🙃

Today was my first game in a while and my first time at UBS. I don't live far and it was an easy commute both ways. A bigger crowd would have made it a little longer especially coming home. Paid $42 for parking but with four people in the car the LIRR wouldn't have been any cheaper. Sat in row 7 of Section 115 so had a wonderful view of the game. Paid $90 a ticket which I thought was a steal for those seats. Close game but great time. Didn't have a chance to see any red fans but did run into someone I hadn't seen in about 20 years which was great.

As for the crowd and the arena. I agree with Beast that it was a very pleasant environment with a lot of younger fans. Probably paid about $150 for lunch for the four of us with the Amex discount but also worth it.

The dissapointing part was that even though the crowd was small there were more then enough fans to make it loud. I don't know if it was the opponent or the lack of more points in transition or just the apathy of St. John's fans it felt more like the opera then a basketball game. I hope it's better when we play Seton Hall.

I love RJ Luis' game. He is only a sophomore who only played part of the season last year. He is our most athletic player by a mile and his speed is light years ahead of anyone else. He has a ton of confidence. Hopefully we can build around him with more fast paced players. I also really would like to see more of Witcher. I see talent there. He just seems afraid. Very pleased with Jenkins today and we missed Ledlum. Soriano can't be expected to guard small quick players so we need to make adjustments when we play other teams with small lineups. Drissa and Conway play hard but they aren't good enough to see meaningful minutes.

All in all a great day.

I think 11-9 after 8-3 OOC has us sweating a bit on Selection Sunday unless we get to BET final. 12 BE wins would make me a lot more comfortable but what do I know.
I’m no braketology expert but the last few years we were hovering around the bubble or just below it with a lot less and a far inferior OOC schedule so my intuitive sense is a double digit (and over .500 record in conference) is more than enough. Obviously agree, the more the better.

With Luis on the bench during a 3 to 4 minute stretch at the end of the game, Hofstra is playing a small quick lineup. Soriano switches to a quick guard who goes around him 3 straight times to score layups. Bad plays by Soriano, but had Luis been playing instead of Soriano those drives to the basket would have never happened. Poor decision by Pitino not having Luis on the floor instead of Soriano.
I thought we cant overplay the kid. Kid gloves would be a must. If all goes well we got him for 3 years and then he turns pro. If rick messes him up his mom wanna know whats going on. I never thought he could play as hard as he did today.

Since we are speaking of Arenas , is there a worse BB Court than the one that UCLA and Oregon are playing on , right now .

It’s a Court painted by a drunken Monkey ( J Fred Mugs?)
