Whoa:

Pitino: “I’ll say two things: We played well, they played great. We knew this was coming because we played them two times at Iona. Don’t take this the wrong way, we had a much better team at Iona than we do at St. John’s. Dubar killed us last year, he makes tough shots.”
Wow 😳!! If that’s not laying the gauntlet down with these guys I don’t know what is!! He’s demanding accountability and challenging them. I personally love it!! I want more enthusiasm, determination and grit from this team and so does CRP apparently.

With Luis on the bench during a 3 to 4 minute stretch at the end of the game, Hofstra is playing a small quick lineup. Soriano switches to a quick guard who goes around him 3 straight times to score layups. Bad plays by Soriano, but had Luis been playing instead of Soriano those drives to the basket would have never happened. Poor decision by Pitino not having Luis on the floor instead of Soriano.

Just wondering how long we get to use the "he's still getting his legs under him" excuse for Luis's uninspiring play?
Really not sure why you are so down on the young man. We are at the end of December and Luis has hardly practiced since fracturing a bone in his hand in October. You could not wait until the end of the game to critique his play. It is as if you were waiting for his first mistake so that you could post your negative evaluation of his game. Come on, at least try to be objective with your evaluation. I just got home and am now reading the gametime posts.

Luis did not shoot well this game, but made 7-8 free throws ending up with 12 points, while leading the team in rebounding with 10. I am not saying he is the second coming, but to write him off after 63 minutes of play doesn't seem fair.

Classic Pitino, nothing is ever his fault. :D. First it's "no one was taught fundamental defense" and now my team was better last year. Well guess what, you brought the this team together, if they can't play defense and if they are not as 'talented' as a mid major than that's on you.

That’s not why he said it at all.

Come on Panther, I simply add some balance to the posters who are way overhyping this kid. I don't bash the kid. So when they talk about him being a likely lottery pick, I point out that he shot 2-10. I like the kid a lot and see a lot of potential in him. In case you hadn't noticed, my back and forth with Paultzman is all in good fun. Same way I would defend Dunn and go back and forth when others would put him down. No need to get all worked up over this.

Got to meet up pre-game with IDAFT & his wife...and halftime got to meet up w/ mjmaher, redstormrising & Happy.

UBS is nice place, but it was dead..no energy from fans from start. Super quiet is an understatement.Barely heard one can't of Lets Go Johnnies, Defense etc.

If I had to guess attendance maybe 6-7K?
Yes no energy at all from the crowd
There was definitely more than Carnesecca arena holds. Maybe near 8k

I think Luis‘s biggest contribution to date is that his personal style of play alters the dynamics on the court with Jenkins. Obviously, Luis can penetrate and is willing to pass. Consequently, he takes some of the pressure off Jenkins solely to create plays for himself or others, every time down. The ball is not in his hands 90% of the time when Luis is on the court. He is still the dominant point guard, but he doesn’t need to monopolize every possession nor to take as many long threes. He is being more selective (i.e. we are seeing more drives and less chucking up shots). I think it is partially because for most possessions the ball, ar least for some limited time, is either with Luis or someone who received a Luis pass. Luis enables Jenkins to be a better point guard simply because he is an alternative source of speed, penetration and rebounding. Hopefully, he can soon add scoring.

Can we get a rebound!! There are no more excuses now. Very apathetic play by this team. For a team of 5th year seniors they play with no sense of urgency whatsoever.
I didn't get to watch the game, but was scoreboard watching. Just reading through the hodstra thread.

Joel only had 4 rebounds in 29minutes, what happened to the big man to only have 4 boards?

He was dysfunctional in the first half. Just one of those periods when nothing goes right.
RP sat him for awhile during the half.
He was better in the second half, but the team had already adjusted around him more than through him.

Luis is the best all around player on this team. His play will only improve as he gets more games under his belt.
