Harrison from Three

Good shot at 2,000 career points!

I would love to see him break into the top 5
I would love to see him win a game for us down the stretch.

I'd love to see someone else on the team step up so a defense doesn't know who's taking the shot. Oh wait someone tried that in Prov game. Didn't work out so well
With the shot clock down to 2 I figure Hooper had to unload. You think my post is negative Harrison? I don't care about the 3 pt records. He's our best player and does not ask permission to shoot. Does lighting up the NJIT's of the world mean anything. Maybe he is clutch.

The last 5 games Rysheed is 6 of 10 from 3 and 17 of 34 overall. Hard to say how that would trend if he was taking more but he's taking threes when he can make them and that's gonna help. He's also been adept at getting to the rack and scoring more often than not. If Branch plays more Rysheed will get more shots and from where I'm sitting that's a pretty good thing.

Your right. But prior to the last game we never saw Branch near the end of a game and not even Sheed that much. I love the look of the 3 of them in the game. Opens up the floor.

Harrison has a good mid range game. He draws fouls on the drive and has the strength and size to finish in traffic. He needs to limit his threes to wide open, feet just over the line. Those 3's from 25 feet on the break or with a fresh shot clock need to go. I can see how he scored nearly 40 a game in HS. Very little conscious and very strong belief in his game. That can be a tough mix if his shot is off.

If it wasn't a negative it sure was masked that way. Considering a lot of posters have lamented lately that he 'chokes' down the stretch. He is a volume scorer and will leave SJU as most likely the 3rd best scorer in history yet will be arguably one of the most criticized. He is the perfect Robin to a Batman. Problem is we don't have a Batman. We don't even know if we have another Robin. As Austour pointed out if someone else like Sheed can become a viable option down the stretch it opens up the game for everyone.

No, but if we land Adonis, we can have a Fatman and Robin.

After reading the article that said 60% of UNC football and basketball players read between 4th and 6th grade, it's a good thing most of our posts are at 7th grade reading level.

If Adonis goes elsewhere, I take full responsibility if my post is the deciding factor in his deciding where he wants to play basketball at the next level.

Moose, I know your a fan of Harrison, sorry If I was rude to either of you. I appreciate what D'lo has done at SJU. He does a lot of good stuff including stepping up his D this year. All the 3's have not been a winning formula, so the record count down not that meaningful. I do think D'lo plays to many minutes. He looks beat down the stretch. I have been disappointed in our bigs. Sampson has stepped it up just lately. Add CO, Sanchez and Pointer and I never figured we would still be so dependent on a D'lo 3, or having to run a clear out going one on five.

Has dlo ever scored a field goal by slam dunking the basketball?

I don't remember him doing so.

He did earlier this year. Might have been against Nova. I recall being surprised because I couldn't remember him ever doing it.

Ive seen just about every basket sans the second half of Georgetown. I don't remember him dunking. He can though, has done so in warm-ups.

I definitely commented on it at the time. That's why I'm sure it happened. Just not sure which game. Check the Seton Hall game, when we were opening up the lead, if you have it on DVR.

Don't think he has dunked, saw him dunk with relative ease when watching him before the Columbia game though.

Harrison has won me over with his 110% effort ,self control, and leadership. He's turned a bad attitude into a good attitude, and I've done a 180 on him as a fan.

But, before the season, I had written that unless Harrison improves his shooting percentage, it's going to be a long season. At 39% from the field and 34% from three, this is simply not good enough from your leading scorer to be a winning team. It does appear that his shooting % is ZERO in the clutch, but really, a big time scorer who does not shoot well can't be a huge asset. I agree he may be cut out to be a #2 option, but consider that the ultimate "Robin" was Scottie Pippen, and for his career he shot 47% from the field. No matter where he shakes out in terms of career scorers at SJU, poor shooting will have prevented us from winning. Consider that if he was shooting 49% from the field instead of 39%, it's likely we'd be 5-2 and not 2-5 in conference.

Definitely wasnt seton hall. Im not gonna go back and watch but I haven't seen it this year. Could have been Georgetown but then again he only hit one shot that game and I think I remember it.

You referenced Scottie Pippen. Who is an NBA player, arguably one of the Top 100 of all time and oh 6'8 to boot. People fawn over Archipoddamus and look at his shooting %'s. Call me nuts. Call me so much of a Harrison homer I can't see it another way. But I have a hard time criticizing the leading scorer on a team in the way the majority of the fan base does. While numbers the past two years might have been up overall, his first year we saw his best percentage from 3. The fact that Moe was around sure helped. I think we all could agree that if Moe stuck around a 2nd year both of their numbers would have continued to climb. Harrison saw his shooting % increase actually but 3's dropped.

Lastly you mentioned a lot of players above. I will immediately dismiss big men for obvious reasons. But I don't know a lot of the guards. Before my time. Did they drive penetrate and get shorter FG's, layups, etc? Harrison only this year has started to really show a mid range game which is good. So many ways to shake it. You said if he improved to 49% as opposed to 39% you could change our record to 5-2 instead of 2-5. Well what if we had a PG who penetrated a dished with more regularity. Or a big man with some post moves. Or another weapon from the outside. On and on and on. By the way. Marcus Hatten shot 40.5% from the field. 29% from 3 and 73% from the line.

Maybe I'm wrong but I think perception is going to change when he leaves when fans see the grass isn't always greener.

Admittedly Harrison has not hit the winning shot too often and has missed critical FTs occasionally at crunch time. That said, he often keeps us in the game early when rest of team looks like deer in headlights. Butler is a good example, when he prevented us from being down by big deficit early.

He is a gutsy, fearless player who draws fouls, has a nice medium range game, but is spotty on threes. With his warts, who else do you want to have the ball in difficult periods of a game? Perhaps Jordan, but no one else comes to mind. This volume scorer will be accorded due respect in time, as noted in post above. Let's enjoy him.
It is interesting how he is put under microscope so often. As the end of last season showed, we would be even more mediocre without him.
