Harrison from Three

Well, Harrison had something to say in his own defense today about this discussion. HUGE shot by D'Angelo. Maybe the biggest of his career. great job. I'm happy for him.

Just watched the shot three times on DVR. He had plenty of room, but tossed it up like he was in the schoolyard beating someone in horse. Calm as could be.

That shot was just like Henderson from Ole Miss in last year's tourney. Sometimes it goes in and sometimes it doesn't. Today it went in and we move on to the next round.

played an unbelievably controlled game today and he just wanted it and was money. I remember one terrific pass to Jordan down low that Jordan fumbled
out of bounds and DLo was upset but gained his composure. I believe he has taken the leadership reins for this team.

@NYPost_Brazille: D'Angelo Harrison on his 3-pointer from what felt like Chicago: “He backed up and coach tells me to be aggressive, so I was." #sjubb

It was Obekpa I believe but your point about the play is well taken. He played a terrific game.

somehow I think many of us would have killed him for taking the shot if had missed.... im still don't believe he should have the green light from there but hey im glad he took it today!

didn't he hit one other from that distance today also ?

In the 2nd half when they said he had 14 pts at the time I swear it seemed like he had 10 more today. Kid played great

I can count 3 games that he won on 3's in crunch time from that same spot on the floor. Cincy last year, Creighton and today.

I agree, Andrew. I'm just glad that we have a player with big enough balls to take that shot. I don't ever mind Dlo taking an open shot, no matter where he is on the floor or how much time is left on the shot clock. He is full of confidence and that should never be discouraged.

If you believe that, just imagine what the "Lavin gets an extension" thread would look like right now. :)

While I don't mind a player shooting when open, or your best scorer taking most of the big shots, I'm more of a disciple of "24 seconds to shoot", which was a book about the 69-70 Knicks. One of the main themes was that on any given occasion anyone could take the big shot, and that the goal was to get the easiest shot possible - for anyone. Granted it was the Knicks, a championship team, but then the concept was almost revolutionary, to find the open man, and be confident that anyone on the floor could take a big shot. That concept of team ball kind of took a backseat during the Michael Jordan era, with marquee players expected to make the big shot all the time. It's a good discussion though.

If youre going yo play like that you need to have guys capable of scoring at many positions...tgst certainly precludes many college teams from playing that way... its really a matter of finding out what works with a given roster

Harrison is a rythm shooter. When he's on, he's on. When he comes down and sees an open three, I have no problem with him taking it if he is feeling good about his shot. I prefer that to the forced shot with 5 seconds left on the clock.

There is no doubt that he launched that shot with amazing nonchalance and confidence. This is in contrast to some of the failures, where the shots were forced. It wasn't simply a matter of the ball going in or not, it was the confidence with which he launched it. Obviously he is strong enough to shoot from well beyond the arc, and he was given 5-6 feet of space by his man.

I believe we are going to see more of that style of play next season, when a sophomore Jordan takes control of this team. In terms of the other guys on the floor, Sampson is a capable scorer, Obekpa is improving, Harrison of course can score, and depending on who else is one the floor, Jordan can create easy shots for them. The key will be the other four guys developing a passer's mentality. Obekpa has it to some degree for a big man. Sanchez possesses it now but will be gone. The thing that made the Artest team special was that everyone loved to make the extra pass for the easy basket - except maybe for Bootsy, who was the ultimate finisher garbage man, and as such always seemed to be on the receiving end.
