Gonzaga

Decent game. We showed a lot of heart by coming back from 15 down to make it a game. Also showed a lot of heart with our 2 top defensive guys in foul trouble. If we play that way against 95% of the teams in the country, we win. Let's hope we take our positives to every future game and work on our negatives.

Great game by the Johnnies! We didn't quit, or get stupid at the end. If not for that 5 minute mental breakdown of just chucking up wild 3's, may of been a different outcome. Only 9 minutes in the first half for pointer, and Obekpa in foul trouble all night. I like how we play small, and it will cause matchup problems

I appreciate the effort our guys gave tonight. They played with a lot of heart and energy. Simply stated, they want it.

The bottom line is.....shame on Steve Lavin for letting these four year guys go into their senior year with no depth in the front court.

You are like a broken record. This is a game thread. You've made your recruiting points very clear in every other thread you post in.

Guess what? We didn't lose this game due to size, okay? Harrison and Pointer played exceptionally well defensively to close the game. We lost this game because we couldn't attack the zone effectively for five minutes and fell too far behind. They only out-rebounded us by four. We got out-rebounded by much worse routinely last season with 6'9 Sampson 6'9 Sanchez 6'10 Obekpa, and 6'8 GG.

This 14-15 team is better. No ifs, ands, or buts.

Oh, sorry, my bad. Could you post some more about Dom rebounding or playing time for Balamou? Because your not at all repetitive.

This team played there asses off. We got killed inside all night with Karnowski, Wijlyter and Sabomis. To have a chance to tie at the after being down 15 was all you can ask for. This can be an NCAA Tournament team.

We have to make foul shots, not settle for so many three's and be more disciplined moving the ball instead of throwing it around the way we do sometimes.

Obepka, though improved, really still has little offensive game. Jordan is too undisciplined.

Actually Obepka did not touch the ball on offense until 15:06 In the first half.

I still cannot get over how selfishly Jordan played on the offensive side of the ball. The 9 TO's aside, his shot selection as very poor. He certainly looks like someone just trying to put up points to help his NBA resume. How many I'll advised 3 pointers and deep 2 did he take outside the flow of the offense?

I hate blaming the refs, but this group sucked tonight. Your #1 job as a ref is to not decide the game with the whistle. They put Dom and Obekpa in awful foul situations early for chippies (CO's 2nd should have gone to Jones anyway). Seriously, you need to do research as a ref and you know the seere disadvantage you put SJU at by making a close call like that. They also called back-to-back travels on us in the first half. Who does that? There is a travel every possession.

Harrison's drive was an offensive foul...barely, but it was. But you don't make that call when a team is down three with the ball 40 feet from the basket! The kid flopped his ass off. You just don't make that call. These guys were garbage. How that guy missed the out of bounds with Greene...I have no idea. They were over our backs all night with one whistle.

Speaking of bad calls, when Sabonis spun and backed into Pointer that was absolutely a charge. No doubt about it. And how could Driscoll call out of bounds on Greene when he was standing right there as the ball hit off the knee of a Gonzaga player. Dakich commented Driscoll make 99% of the calls right - bull sh... Never liked him.

Marillac, I agree with you that the game was lost when we went through that period when we couldn't score against the zone. But don't tell me this is a hands down better team, because if nothing else - Sampson was very good at flashing to the foul line extended and turning and threatening the D.
We don't have a player with the size and shooting ability to be that threat in the middle of a zone, or along the baseline.

IMO this team as far better chemistry and more heart than last years team, in spite of the fact that last years team had Samson and Sanchez. .

Another late comeback that falls short. It will be refreshing if we can go up on Syracuse early.

The real question is can we improve our zone offense. Enjoyed the game & salute the effort, but we just don't shoot well enough to beat the big boys, let alone on the road. Cuse will be a tough one. Before I die can we get a couple of shooters? :)

Right on, Syracuse's zone will be much, much harder then Gonzaga. They will force us to throw up three pointers, especially since it's harder to penetrate. Have to use Pointer on the foul line with Obekpa floating back and forth underneath.

Dom Pointer to me has been shockingly our best player thus far. Sparked the team for the 2nd straight game tonight. Getting rebounds like we need him to. Also had 5 dimes tonight.

Sampson was a better talent than nearly everyone on this roster, besides Jordan and (possibly) Obekpa. We sucked against the zone, though. He had no feel for when and how to get his looks. He killed team chemistry. Jordan did plenty of that himself tonight. We are a better team attacking the tin and playing inside out. Th jumpers need to stop--especially off the bounce. I prefer Dom and--no matter what that idiot announcer said--Jordan to Sampson at the FT line of the zone.

As for defense, outside of the anomaly that was Creighton, our post defense was laughable last year. Tonight, Dee fought Sabonis tooth and nail for every inch of position and fronted when the ball came to his side. Our guards have quick hands to strip the ball too. Last year, Sabonis would have backed Sampson and Sanchez down two feet from the basket every possession.

These guys are reminding me a lot of the undersized 98-99 team more and more. They key is to limit the mistakes and make smarter choices. There are some bad habits that have to be broken.

How did you all feel about Stewarts extended amount of minutes? He came in and hit a 3, but I didn't really hear from him for the rest of the game. I was surprised he played that much, but it goes to show Lav is so desperate for shooters.

You know you want to just forget about this loss and move on but it is hard because you know now the zone is something we will see not only next Saturday, but for the whole year if we continue to struggle.

A win against cuse would do wonders for this team. First of all it is doable because this is one of the more weak Syracuse teams I think I have seen. Don't have much depth down low much like us. Secondly, beating them would put the confidence level of this team on another level. Harrison has taken losses to Syracuse since he was a freshmen, and a win at their place I feel like would really get the team juiced and ready for conference play. I think we are in a good position going into Saturday. Put Dom in the middle of that zone like you did tonight, lock down Cooney like we were able to do last year, and I think we can another resume booster.

Just think, if we can get into conference play with wins over Minnesota, st Mary's, and Syracuse, with a close loss to Gonzaga, and wins over every cupcake, that's best case scenario and probably puts us in a position where 9-10 conference wins should do it.

Attendance- 5545 Pathetic!

How about disgraceful!

Top ten team in MSG on a Friday night of a Holiday weekend.

We have the worst fan support in the country. The worst.

I doubt anyone scheduling this game months in advance knew the new Star Wars trailer would be released the same day.

Chalk it up to bad luck.

Thought the team played a very good tournament. Yes a lot of mistakes and still that street ball feel, but Gonzaga is a very solid team and we played very good defense being undersized. I enjoyed the game tonight, just wished more fans would come out and the crowd would get behind the team. Myles Stewart deserves a scholarship.

I thought Jordan got foulded late on the right wing drive that they called out of bounds. On the replay you could clearly see his left arm banged by the Zags defender.

There was alot of banging going on that could have/should have been called...Refs made some horrible calls/non-calls

He was absolutely fouled, but I was fine with the no-call. I just can't believe they wouldn't no-call the Harrison play 40 feet from the basket.

They also called a puzzling foul on Greene against Wiltjer at the end when Wiltjer clearly (arm fully extended) was pushing off on Greene to get a rebound on offense.

Those 2 calls epitomized the ineptness of this trio
