Per Seth Davis of SI:
• I was very impressed with St. Johns’ near-comeback over Gonzaga in the NIT final at Madison Square Garden. The Johnnies fell short to a great team, but they showed some pluck in cutting a 15-point deficit to three with a minute left. Too bad there were so many fans there dressed as empty seats. Official attendance: 5,548.
It's sad. Every coach and analyst thinks we are good (votes in two polls), but our fans act like the sky is falling. Even if we completely fail this season, it will be the second best team we've had in over a decade. We can't even enjoy that.
Our fans have watched the team play, most coaches and analysts have not. Truthfully.
This is absolutely the year to complain, because the program is falling apart before our eyes.
We have a roster of walk-on level talent for next year, and virtually zero shot with any impact recruits.
Our most exciting player was benched yesterday because he's too selfish.
We have no bench or depth in the frontcourt because our coach took last year's recruiting season off to go sweatpants shopping, and the recruits he did bring in are not qualified. - leaving us with no backup center.
And our offensive sets look like the guys just showed up for a pick up game and made things up on the fly. When in reality this is a team of juniors and seniors who should are more experienced than any team they'll face this season.
I don't expect a well-oiled machine, but I expect more than what they've shown so far.
I'm glad we haven't lost to any of the cupcakes so far, but we've looked pretty poorly in many of these games.
Can you explain the selfish part?
