Georgetown (MSG), Tue., Jan. 14 , 7:30p, PEACOCK

Liked Prey's contribution a lot. Has some smarts to make up for not being an elite athlete. Tipped some rebounds to teammates when he couldn't grab them. Also thought Lefty's three was big in the first half when nothing was going right. G Town went right at Lefty on defense. He is going to have to get stronger to compete in the notoriously physical Big East, but he has time for that. A game very few SJU teams in recent memory would have been able to win. The Big East is a dogfight. Can't take a night off, and, against the best of the conference, can't take a play off.
Prey is trying to find his place. I don’t know how much 4 he’s played, because I noticed he chases rebounds to similar spots as Zuby and defers to him when they get close. He needs to gain confidence.

He is probably used to operating solo down low as a 5 his whole youth career. Big adjustment.

It’s not hard to see a solid 4/5 come March when you watch him play now.

Real fun game to go to.

Some thoughts:
-- Crowd was legit 85-15 STJ. We desperately wanted to be loud this game, and every chance we had, Georgetown came hit a shot. But it was definitely louder and more intense than these games at MSG have been in the past.
-- It's so refreshing to be the team that knows how to win the game late. In my experience as a St. John's fan, the closest vivid memory of that was basically STJ giving the ball to Marcus Hatten. You can never ever ever count this team out, no matter what.
-- I am most impressed that we ended up only losing the rebound battle 44-38, and winning the offensive rebound 15-13. In the first half, we were out-rebounded 26-10 (!) and offensive rebounds 9-3. To make up that deficit shows a monster effort.
-- Kadary should've had a double-double tonight. Although he can be a little frustrating on some possessions, he gives us a weapon we needed last year to attack the zone. He found a lot of guys under the rim who missed lay-ups. As someone who defends him on this board and in real life, I am not sure he exactly dove for that ball. Looked more like he fell over it. But I'll take it! He deserves our support.
-- I think its time for the Greek kid to get more minutes. His shot looks like the best on the team, and he was in better position defensively than Glover. I do think Glover should get more run during this stretch with Smith not fully healthy.
-- It's also time for Vince's minutes to go to Prey. It's so predictable at this point for him to come in and not make the momentum building plays. He's too slow under the rim and shys away from contact. Prey made a huge tip late in the game.
-- Sim's made huge plays down the stretch of these last two games. Hopefully he can bring that focus for a full 40 minutes.
-- I'm happy they finally showed an alum on the jumbotron -- Dwight Hardy! I also had no idea the ESPN CEO was a law school alum, but they showed him as well.

A gritty win we lose in year's past.

It’s not all about shot making. What has he done on defense? Rebounding? Not getting bad fouls?

He jacks a Curry shot after not doing much, that’s a heat check shot. He pressed tonight and didn’t show maturity. I still believe in him but tonight wasn’t a good night.

Wilcher made some key defensive plays and grabbed a couple of rebounds down the stretch that helped us win a close game .
Plus a timely 3 that got us the win

It was an ugly gritty win! I cursed a lot in seats but end of the day we won. That’s all that counts just fist pumped a fellow Johnnie on MNR also got a great pic with Dhardy one my favorite players so great night! LFGSJ!

we were one Smith short of an easier win. Didn't really press in first half (to save legs) and when applied in second half it was effective. Smith allows RJ to play along baseline where as tonight he was attacking from the middle and losing dribble (as did others). Apreciate the never say die mind set

This team is every reason what I wish I still saw in the NBA. ( except current Knick’s team )

I’ll absolutely take winning ugly over just running down and shooting 3s every F’ing day of the week

This team is UFC tough

Cardiac Kids !!!!
