Georgetown (MSG), Tue., Jan. 14 , 7:30p, PEACOCK

I

The one he took before it he didn’t follow all the way through with his form (shot armed it). The next one the form was perfect as was the follow through.
I thought it was more in the knee bend to make up for front-rimming the prior shots but wouldn't argue with your assessment

The comment here was about Wilcher. Whose shot has not been falling (along with Scott and basically the entire team) but there are ways to impact the game when when that's the case. Which is why he plays over Glover despite the fact that Glover's shot has been more consistent.

We have about 2 posters here who don't seem to credit any part of the game other than shooting, but fortunately most of them (not to mention the staff) look at things more sensibly.

To humor your "let's talk about RJ instead" approach, he is tremendously athletically talented, a critical part of this team since we need someone who can create for themselves and he's pretty much it, he's generally an excellent defender and rebounder, and he has made enormous progress in understanding the game and improving his decision making.

He still does a few dopey things every game almost all of which could be avoided by passing the basketball, but no player is perfect.

All of that is what I have posted pretty consistently about him, along with that he, Zuby and Richmond are the three essential cogs to this team and that the difference maker is Scott as the 4th if he can hit some shots to go along with the other non-scoring things he contributes.

I'd say that analysis was pretty consistent with tonight's game.
I love Scott and agree that tonight he was the difference maker but we’re losing more games without RJ.

It’s nice to be debating who won the game instead of who lost it!

Tried to read through some of the thread on the train now. Yea was ugly for sure. But in the end we prevail!!!!

Crowd got loud at the right spots. Wasn’t much to cheer for awhile. But as everyone has said. Huge to be down 10 at the half when it felt like 30.

I think the one player we cannot manage without is Zuby. After that either RJ or Kadary is the next least-replaceable and it's probably RJ since you can play Smith for Kadary.

But the difference maker for this team is a 4th player who can defend, rebound and shoot and that has to be Scott. Glover does nothing but shoot. Liotopoulos same thing with less physical maturity and ability. Wilcher should be a shooter but doesn't have the size for the rest. It's got to be Scott.

Would say he’s still a bit away from being a + in that department. Neutral is generous imo.
We don’t do him any favors, though. He’s lucky to get one clean look in rhythm. So many times the passes are to his feet.

He also has to be more aggressive. He needs to start showing more soon or Pitino is going to be forced to spend big on a combo in the portal.

I don’t know how to respond to that because you’re advocating for multiple guys which I can’t argue against. For that reason, I think we have a really good team. It’s not just one guy and on any night, it could be one, two, or three different guys to step up!

Kudos to RJ. The guy was physically drained from the Villanova game. Going to the line 20 times on very hard contact from the Wildcats.

Tonight everything looked off, his shot, his energy, hit the floor hard on 3 occasions, yet still had the will to do what needed to be done. The next few practices Pitino needs to treat him like Deion treats Travis Hunter.

Looking at the box score , Wilcher was 2-8 from and 1-4 from 3.
Luis , Richmond , Scott took many more shots and they weren’t exactly Dead Eye Dick either but , they did enough .
My point is if Wilcher hits 2 more shots , he’s 4-8 and we win more handedly .
But , the vitriol thrown at him by some here isn’t all that justified .
He’s hit 2 big shots down the stretch of our last 2 games that contributed to our wins against Nova and G ‘Town

The idea at this point that having Glover or Lefty in there ahead of Wilcher is just ridiculous ..

I’ve never discounted the defensive side of the ball. In fact in both games, Wicher made a few great defensive plays at games end that helped them win no diubt. And Scott’s defensive play has consistently been stellar. But when you are a “shooting guard “ and you are averaging 2-10 or worse in Big East play, that missed shot statistically is almost equivalent to a turnover. Of course missed shots are expected but at that rate, they can negatively impact the game and a teams chances to win.

If you want to make a point with me, I’m all for it, but when you make a sarcastic comment like “do you ever watch any other part of the game but guys taking threes” then whatever point you are trying to make gets lost in the sarcasm and does not lead to a productive discussion. 😎👍

Liked Prey's contribution a lot. Has some smarts to make up for not being an elite athlete. Tipped some rebounds to teammates when he couldn't grab them. Also thought Lefty's three was big in the first half when nothing was going right. G Town went right at Lefty on defense. He is going to have to get stronger to compete in the notoriously physical Big East, but he has time for that. A game very few SJU teams in recent memory would have been able to win. The Big East is a dogfight. Can't take a night off, and, against the best of the conference, can't take a play off.

It’s not all about shot making. What has he done on defense? Rebounding? Not getting bad fouls?

He jacks a Curry shot after not doing much, that’s a heat check shot. He pressed tonight and didn’t show maturity. I still believe in him but tonight wasn’t a good night.

Prey’s work fronting Sorber was a master class. He is huge. For his size, maybe not vertically, but agility and coordination isn’t far from elite IMO.
