Fordham, Mon., Nov. 4, 6:30p, FS-1

Was looking at it from the opposing angle…was just worried about stopping him and not overly familiar with the games of his teammates.

Knowing Brady loves that backdoor…Kadary gets it to him. Knowing Wilcher loves to step into his jumper and who gets him those looks? Knowing Zuby is weak on the glass and who steps up? He didn’t force himself onto the game at all…just took what was there like a hitter going opposite field with the pitch.

Wilcher = Smooth
Richmond = thankfully on our team
Luis = Gonna be great, just needs to let the game come to him
Zuby = guard dominated game; didn’t get many opportunities to shine but contributed nonetheless with his perimeter defense
Vince = has ability and energy
Smith = once he settles into his role, watch out
Prey = smart player
Dunlap = looked comfortable tonight and willing to mix it up under boards
Lefty = cameo appearance but made a great pass to Prey
Glover = another one that expect big things out of once he gets comfortable and sees ball go in a few times

Seidku = may be crazy but I think this guy will ultimately be a defensive stopper for SJ; has great footwork, doesn’t get beat off dribble against smaller quick guards

Lots of positives tonight. Depth will clearly be a factor going forward especially if Brady can come in and hit those shots. I like Vince a lot and think he may ultimately end up as the 5 man with the most court time if he continues to improve. Kadary has a way of settling things down and Sim looks very smooth and confident. Smith off the bench will give the team instant energy and the front court of Luis and Scott will be very formidable.

I just wonder what Glovers role will be. Many have said he will be a big contributor, but I’m not sure at what position.

Nice win tonight Fordham has some talent but they look like individuals instead of one unit.
Player observations:
  • Kadary as good as advertised, still has that hitch from three.
  • Was wrong about Wilcher he’s made a big jump in skill and confidence. Not rushing and his handle looks improved.
  • Luis is talented as hell and he knows it, really wants to prove himself and I think he will. Lost his cool a bit because he’s a really competitive dude. 3 level scorer that can handle the ball and plays bigger than his size on both sides; he’s definitely not 6’7” more like 6’5”.
  • Scott can do a little bit of everything. Stretches the floor and can switch on defense, type of player you need on a winning team.
  • Zuby had a quiet game with the pace being in favor of guard play. I think he’ll be fine this year as a rugged energy guy who can hit occasional threes. His hands aren’t great and he struggles with touch at times inside. Needs to hit the defensive glass harder not really sure what that’s about. I do worry with him defending true centers like Kalkbrenner because he’s giving up so much height down there.
  • You can tell Smith missed time and is still not himself. He flashed his elite speed on a few plays. When he’s fully acclimated he will be a problem getting into the paint.
  • Brady played a solid game, he’s a smart player who will figure out where he fits. Made the extra pass, cut off ball, knocked down shots, and hit the glass. He got beat by quicker guys but he wasn’t the only one, Johnson was giving them fits out there. He’s more of a stretch 4 than a wing.
  • Vince was the backup 5 and his potential is obvious. Considering he’s 7’1” his mobility looked good to me. Protected the rim and rebounded. His development will be crucial as his size will be needed in conference play.
  • No surprise Prey is not Chet Holmgren but he doesn’t need to be thankfully. I don’t think he brings much offensively this year but has some ability to guard on switches as a big.
  • Glover was forcing everything and got screamed at for it by Pitino. His form is perfect but he’s got a long way to go to earn coaches trust from the looks of it.
  • Lefty had some nice passes especially the no look feed to Prey. His handle looked good too when pressed. He probably won’t play much this year but he opened some eyes if you know what to look for.
  • Ayo hit a three in garbage time. He’s probably better than people think and if injuries pile up at any point he might be able hold it down for a few minutes without being a liability out there.

Ayo has good form. He’s one of our better shooters.

I think Pitino sees him as a real core guy next year guarding 2-4, hitting threes, and hopefully with a few moves.

I'm glad we are only one game into the season and you are already claiming to be smarter than our HOF coach! 😕
Not sure where you got that from but expressing opinions are the purpose of boards like this. I’ll leave the mindless adoration for another human being for people like you who are afraid to think for themselves.

Best line of the night from the tv announcers:

Rick about Kadary: "He's a jump shot away from being on the Knicks"

work on that jump shot Kadary it will be the difference between $200,000 and $2,000,000
