Fordham, Mon., Nov. 4, 6:30p, FS-1

Please don't paint Luis with the wrong brush. This wasn't a flagrant foul, a tech earned with profanities, taunts, or threats to referees or opponents.

This is a soft spoken, exceptionally nice young man, who is girded by his strong Christian faith that he isn't afraid to proclaim.

Fly in the ointment? C'mon. He is a thoroughbred learning to harness his immense talent. And as a person, I wish we had 12 of him.

Remember, Pitino lauds PHD's. RJ is one of them and I'm thrilled he is on board, without a single reservation.
Luis, and only Luis, is doing the painting; as an, at times, insanely over the top competitor, even as a “grown, mature coach”, I couldn’t care less about him kicking the ball and accept your assessment that his on the court demeanor does not reflect his true nature.
But he does have to own and correct his selfish (at times) and all too often stupid play if he is to harness his potential. As someone else posted previously, he is now a junior and has been with Pitino for over a year. HE, and only HE, is responsible for what he does between the lines and Monday was just more of the same old, same old, even with dismissing the field goal.
Time to grow up, actions define a person, potential merely provides one the opportunity to act.

really...? he might have had the most talent around him a "star" of ours ever had...

his junior year- Simon/Heron/LJ/Clark.... then an Extreme drop off.... no depth. and the loss of Owens for his final yr really hurt... 6'11 rim protector/finisher would have made a world of difference...
Agree talent wasn’t the issue it was coaching.

Just saying, It wasn't Mullin that was missing wide open shots that Clarke Heron Simon Ponds and LJ hoisted up. Not one of them could consistently make shots, and teams packed it in and dared them to shoot. Would Pitino have done better. I would hope so, he's a HOF coach, but bad shooters are bad shooters.

huh...?
Clarke- 35.3% from 3 on 6 attempts/game
Heron - 40.3 on 4
Simon - didnt want him shooting... correct
Ponds- 35.3 on 6
LJ- 38.3 on 4
Dixon- 43.3 on 2 (should have shot more)....

Team collectively shot just under 36% from 3... good for 108th that year... if we have those %'s this year (last yr we shot 34% from 3) - we will be going places.

Team was hollow on the inside. As much talent 1-5 as SJU should ever need, but missing important size and depth.

Excellent post Beast.

Put up the numbers when the team tanked at seasons end, and the shooting numbers in Dayton.

I would be more impressed with the kick if he had done it while eating popcorn and assaulting a team manager over chick fila.

The only thing Clark did well was shoot. He was a frustrating player, because he wasn't long after Draymond and he saw the blueprint, but he played soft and uninspired. He didn't defend, rebound, or draw contact. He just hung around the perimeter and chucked. He averaged 0.8 offensive rebounds in 30.1 mpg as a senior. That is disgusting. Izzo wouldn't tolerate that garbage....Clark averaged 0.7 offensive rebounds at MSU as a soph in 9.7 minutes.

That team was all sizzle and no steak. Heron deserved a better coach and system.

I wish, but I don't put this stuff this stuff on YouTube, I just copy it on here.

So "the man" is the YouTube user named The Draftmatic.
It was really hard to search for on YouTube. I didn't notice Draftmatic until I found past games with the same kind of title. Now I know where to go to watch full games on YouTube.

12 pts in 13 minutes. 4-7 from the floor. 2-4 from deep. Made both free throws. I'm willing to cut him some slack if Coach and his teammates are.

If all you are about in judging players and teams are stats, I understand. But I, and others, go beyond that, and also factor in an eye test. And you choose to focus on one stat, scoring, and totally ignore a very telling one, 5 fouls, really 6 factoring in the tech, in 13 minutes.
As for cutting him some slack, why? He was cut slack via the shin excuse all last year and with that resolved still played the EXACT same game he was cut some slack for all too often last year. How about trying maturing on the court?

Donic, Durant, McGrady, Victor W, etc , etc. There is a long list of well respected NBA players who took a drop kick on the court. Surely, they were all stupid, selfish players who failed to reach their potential! McGrady actually did it twice in one game. These players too never grew up. 😇😇
And yes, we already cut Luis slack with his shin excuse! You know, that shin excuse that required surgery on both legs after he played an entire season in excruciating pain. 🤣🤣

Totally understand your point. It's the first game of the season and also the first time RJ has been truly healthy here at SJU. He showed some frustration and had a lapse in judgement. I think you'll see his maturity truly blossom as the season goes on. He is a key member of this team and it's safe to say he understands that.

Read much? I completely dismissed the ball kicking but evidently you missed that in your haste to make your irrelevant point. Please explain to me in all your wisdom how the shins affect what’s between the ears. Excuses, excuses, excuses.
