Fordham, Mon., Nov. 4, 6:30p, FS-1

Very happy what I saw from Vince last night. The 5 spot beyond Zuby was my only real concern with this roster. I think Prey will come along also.
THIS... was my biggest sigh of relief... when he stroked his first FT... there was a collective hushed "wow" from my section lol.... no one expected him to make 1 but 2 free throws lol

Best line of the night from the tv announcers:

Rick about Kadary: "He's a jump shot away from being on the Knicks"

work on that jump shot Kadary it will be the difference between $200,000 and $2,000,000
might wanna add a few zeros the way contracts are trending these days!

Nice to hear Ponds was at game , Anyone know what he’s doing these days ? Playing overseas ?
Too bad he didn’t have better supporting casts while he was here .
I know Simon was a favorite of many . Me too . But , while he wasn’t as bad a shooter as Clark, he wasn’t lights out either
He could play defense though .
Still , nice to see former Players attending a game or 2 .

really...? he might have had the most talent around him a "star" of ours ever had...

his junior year- Simon/Heron/LJ/Clark.... then an Extreme drop off.... no depth. and the loss of Owens for his final yr really hurt... 6'11 rim protector/finisher would have made a world of difference...

Vince: Pleasantly surprised. Moves shockingly well for a guy of his size and seems to have good feel for game. Hopefully we can get him some open lobs & easy dunks.

Wilcher: Have to be honest I was nervous he may not make jump and glad to be dead wrong. So much smoother. Saw many drives where I almost couldn’t watch because I remember him being stripped a bunch of times. This time though he held onto ball & finished. Huge strides! Will be major piece.

Dunlap: I was harsh on him but he looked confident last night. Finally knocked a few down but also missed wide open 3 he rushed. He doesn’t need to be a star but we will need ~37%+ from 3 if we go far. Jury still out. It was Fordham after all.

Smith: Will need time to adjust but showing flashes.

Prey: Surprisingly smooth & dare I say maybe less of a project than once thought? Looked pretty comfortable & he’s deceptively quick.

All in all, good game. D looks tough as expected which is relieving to see this early. My concern is still mainly the 3PT shooting. Missing way too many open ones. FT shooting looked better. RJ kick was out of frustration. He def got fleeced on the offensive call. BS call by ref there & announcers said it too. He needs to play under control physically & emotionally. But talent is evident.

We don't have that typical Pitino centerfielder at the 5, so we will have to get there as a team. Luis and Scott are very capable blocking shots from behind and it will be needed. I think Maker gives us that guy next year, but Prey is probably our best chance this year and he is weeks away (hopefully).

Same goes for rebounding. I think we are going to have to learn that one the hard way with an early season loss where we get dominated on the glass. It can't all just be Kadary giving us ++ rebounding from the 2 or 3.

Our team has less beef that a vegan restaurant.
Agree. When we play the starting 5 from last night, you not only need max effort (and improvement on the defensive boards) from Zuby, but RJ, KR and Scott being positive in that category. Because I think Wilcher is too slight and undeveloped to be an impact there at this point. And the same goes when we start subbing Smith, Dunlap, etc off the bench. The non-5s need to do it collectively.

Heron missed about 10 games with Injuries that year . Clark was a limited player . Either good or horrid ! More the latter .
Figgy was pretty good . Liked playing for Mullin , not Anderson .
Simon was often dared to shoot from 10 feet . He didn’t answer the call . But , lock down defender . Missed lot of bunnies
Yes , Owens was missed .

Unfortunately couldn't go to the game last night and the FS-1 carousel was unhelpful Only takeaways I had were that
(1) it's all about Kadary (no surprise there, he's a tremendous ballplayer) - as he goes, so the team will go;
(2) Great to see Wilcher growing into his talent, he can be electric; and
(3) RJ is still a low IQ basketball player - he is liable to find himself coming off the bench with a starting 5 of Ejafor, Scott, Wilcher, Richmond, Smith.

Who's volunteering to be Redfans unofficial Scorekeeper for Kull ?

Not his fault, but this one was on his watch.

The expectations for Glover as a frosh should be tempered. Look at Wilcher's stat lines from last year and see what to expect as the young man learns to play for Coach P. Hopefully, he lets Wilcher guide him.
One game does not a season make.

I’m fully enjoying it, and I think we’re in for a really big year. As it relates to RJ, it’s just an obvious fly in the ointment. I don’t recall another player kicking a ball into the stands. Just speaks to judgment. That’s the main issue with him (for me) from last year. This bunch can be very good dies not need unnecessary or stupid distractions. .
Please don't paint Luis with the wrong brush. This wasn't a flagrant foul, a tech earned with profanities, taunts, or threats to referees or opponents.

This is a soft spoken, exceptionally nice young man, who is girded by his strong Christian faith that he isn't afraid to proclaim.

Fly in the ointment? C'mon. He is a thoroughbred learning to harness his immense talent. And as a person, I wish we had 12 of him.

Remember, Pitino lauds PHD's. RJ is one of them and I'm thrilled he is on board, without a single reservation.
