Fordham game

I don't recall having so much fun watching a blowout since an early season game in I think 1984 against UCLA when I was a teenager. Anyone remember that game?

This was the best played overall game since Lavin's first year as Coach. And the Team was having fun playing with each other. Hope this is the beginning of a trend!

It was playing with a point guard and overall mindset of passing the ball. We did some inside/out and high/lo which a lot of us have been calling for all season. I don't expect that it will pay off this nicely every game but it is definitely a key to the winning formula. Passing teams have fun. Watch some NBDL where everyone is trying to showcase themselves and a lot of them are phenomenal athletes but shooting challenged, and it is like watching St John's on a bad day. When we are passing and playing as a team OTOH they are fun to watch. This is why Green should never be the primary ball handler. He plays better off the ball and he rarely looks to pass so you can never generate any interior offense or overall offensive chemistry with him as PG.

We also played well with 2 or 3 bigs in the game together which others had written off as a failed experiment. If Sanchez is playing well, and there is some actual effort to get the ball inside, this is a dangerous weapon for us since he is such a good passer and fast off the D. Notwithstanding all the criticism, Obekpa is one of the hardest working guys when he's on the floor and when he does get the ball he is looking to pass as often as not.

I just got back from the Garden. As has been said here already the team played great. A few thoughts:

1) Ball movement was as good as it has been in a long time. Was reminiscent of the Artest, Reggie Jessie, Barkley, Bootsy, Grant and Postell group.
2) Sanchez was amazing. He was the most dominant player on the floor and today looked NBA ready. It would be great to see him play like this again and again.
3) Sampson was remarkable also. In just fifteen minutes of playing time he played flawlessly going six for six from the floor.
4) Sir Dom is personally my favorite guy to watch. He was one rebound away from a triple double and had eleven assists.
5) Branch was very effective in his fifteen minutes on the court. He had five assists and was three for three from the floor.
6) Fordham was shot by early in the second half. It takes two teams to make a blowout and they were so overwhelmed that they had nothing left in the tank for the last fifteen minutes of the game. Think of this stat: in a game where they attempted twenty one more shots from the field than we did, they made twenty less shots from the field than we did. Our efficiency was matched only by their inefficiency.
7) Crowd was of moderate size and although they were spirited, they were not overwhelmingly so.
8) Michael Kay the Yankee announcer was in attendance (he is a Fordham Grad). He did not look too pleased after the game.with his Alma Mater getting trounced like that.
9) It was nice to see the whole team step up. Every player played extremely well during their time on the floor. It shows me that there is a high ceiling to this team if they are at their best. It will be very interesting to me to see what type of game we play against Syracuse.

I just got home from the game (thanks again for the ticket Desco!) and what a game! This will up there with one of the most dominant SJU games I have seen in person with Sealy dropping 43 in the laphick tournament. I almost remember a game in the late 8os/early 90s where we beat Uconn by 40 at the Garden. Utter domination.

Dom 12 points, 11 assists, 9 rebounds

Desco and I were saying during the game that he is one of the quietest stat stuffers. You don't realize his stats until you look at the box score. I am critical of his offensive game (he looked good going to the rim today), but if he can develop a decent mid range shot he is a 1st team all conference player.

Dom 12 points, 11 assists, 9 rebounds
Dom looked real good on the run outs. His handle much improved. His assist total could have been higher. The guys he was passing to got hammered or didn't finish. Dom had a off game a few back, and we had a poster here talking what a liability Dom was on offense. He's human and will have off game once in a while. I can see where his work is paying off in all parts of his game.

Jon Severe shot 1 for 21 from the field according to the box score..I wonder what Pecora can say to the kid after a game like that? 21 Shots is a lot for a freshman to take and miss so many. Guess the Jordan -Severe matchup, if there was one to begin with, is finally settled.

While it was undoubtedly a very well played game by the Redmen, I don't like to see such a major blow out against another local school.. Fordham is a great University but, has had trouble competing in BB for most of the last 25 years..They probably should have stayed in the MAAC conference instead of moving around as they've done. Jesuit schools seem to be all over the place in COLLEGE BB. Gonzaga,G'town, Marquette,St Joe's, St Louis, Xavier, Creighton, all have competitive programs.. It's puzzling why Fordham isn't able to sustain a winning program.. Any thought?

Well done kudos to Lavin and Team..Sanchez MVP OF THE GAME.

Not that long ago. The next game was the Pitt hooker scandal and Jarvis's last year. I think it was Howland's first year. They had a kid who played for the Knicks and not much else. I think Showtime and Ingram had big games for the Johnnies. Georgetown was our only BE win. Man, we been through some rough times.

The most enjoyable game I have attended in a long time and the kids needed this boost in confidence going into the practice week for the Cuse showdown. The Rams only hope in this game was to fire with abandon from the three and our long players were a challenge to them all game long.
Primo came off the bench highly motivated and did it all! Fordham, a very small team, had no answers for him. Dom played like Michael Jordan's son (actually better) and was excellent on the breaks. We played most of the second half with the second team or this could have been an even worse outcome for the Rams.
With Kansas about to be upset by Colorado, Cuse could be #1 next week. Cannot wait!!!!

You're correct. Howland was at UCLA, and we beat them badly at the Garden.

The "kid" you're thinking about is Trevor Ariza. I believe he committed when Lavin was still coaching UCLA.

Arizona probably will be the next #1, if they beat UNLV.

I'm glad you were finally able to enjoy yourself today. B) It was certainly a heckuva game by our bunch, today.

By the way, Colorado beats Kansas on a 30-35 footer at the buzzer. Wow! Colorado snaps a 19-game losing streak to KU.

Thanks Dink! It was nice seeing Lou after the game. Brian was his chauffeur today. I am pulling for Cuse to be #1 since Jimmy B typically under coaches when Cuse hits #1.
That 3 point could on Wiggins was bogus! The replay showed he was never touched.

Just got back from the game. What a great performance by the team! This is the team we all thought we were getting at the start of the season. Pumped for next week, will be at the Garden early hitting the Garden Pub!! Juice the Orange!!! :)

I also into Lou entering parking garage. His response was "We really sliced them up good"! Great man!

Missed the game and my DVR didn't record it...what was the game like? Did we press? How the hell did they shoot 80% in the first half...was it a layup line?

I would have loved to see them get a second game this weekend based on this performance. If they played like they did today and beat LaSalle tomorrow it would have been a good looking win at the end of the season and gave them 2 great wins going into Syracuse next week.

This wasn't a tournament.
There is no game vs LaSalle tomorrow.

You name it
We did it.
