Fire Mullin!

Another completely embarrassing performance today.

Down 18 and Greg ST. JEAN is drawing up plays.

Mullin needs to go and try to keep Matt A so recruits will stay.

This is almost rock bottom.

Wonder where the program would be if we hired Tiny Morton and then dumped him like Seton Hall did.

How 'bout offering Mike Rice or equivalent a Zendon Hamilton type deal? Zendon Hamilton type deals include no/minimal compensation and a coaching specialty (defense/rebounding)

Coach Rice might see this as a way to get back into college coaching. Perhaps hoping that if CM resigns, he can walk into the head coaching position.

This move would allow the University to show support for the current program while providing CM with support necessary to develop his coaching skills while respecting the legend. Giving coach Rice a second chance would be consistent with the teaching s of the faith.

This could only be done with Chris's consent.

Best we could hope for is Chris walks away and then Danny Hurley takes over here next year.

According to Braziller Hurley would take the job.

Just spoke with Zach B, who laughed & said that is not true.

Of course he would. He's 69 and 69 at Rhode Island in five years and 30 and 38 in conference. He's made the NIT once in his 7 year career. His first two years at RI he was 22 and 39. He'd just be happy someone was talking to him.

Plus heard he is a jerk. Which personally I don't care about but if you are a jerk I would prefer a more successful jerk.

I think I've uncovered the root of the problem. Everything associated with St John's is dysfunctional. I believe this is due to the "Curse of the Alcindor", where Coach Lapchick was shown the door for no good reason and we lost our shot at the sky hook. Louie goes on an NBA sabbatical, and we get hit with the lesser "Jinx of the Elmore". Since then...
A cavalcade of questionable coaching hires, most of them questionable before they even coached a game (not Jarvis and Fran, they let us get comfy before springing surprises on us). MIA AD? No AD? Sitting on the board at Bears Stearns? Pittsburgh shenanigans? Dysfunction!

And it festers in the fan base as well. Offer Billy Donovan less money to come to a state with higher taxes? Opinions vassilating wildly regarding SJU's favorite son after 1 and 1/3 seasons? Defending Donald Trump? Defending Hillary Clinton? This thread? Dysfunction!

Oh well, at least Redmen.com puts the fun in dysfunction.

Nope, Hurley should be the 3rd or 4th choice. Making him the 1st choice would be laziness and show the admin is still thinking small time.

obviously the preference is that Mullin turn it around and become a great coach. But if that doesn't happen they should go for Archie Miller or Gregg Marshall. They are both worth the money because they are sure things. It is a virtual certainty imo that a Miller or Marshall hire would result in the kind of sustained success that we see with Xavier now. Give those guys major conf recruits and they can go to Final 4s and compete for championships.

Hurley is a decent candidate but is not a sure thing.

Lavin got one thing right. St Johns is a sleeping giant and while those guys might never give a second look to programs like DePaul or SH, they would for the right price jump at STJ. Especially now that it has been shown that coaches can nab elite recruits and win championships in this conference.

How much money are we offering them to leave better situations to come here?
Where exactly is this money coming from?
When Mullin leaves we will probably get some semi successful mid major guy an asst no one has ever heard of or Tim Cluess.

Gregg Marshall

Greg Marshall earns 3.3 million dollars. In Kansas. That's like 8 million in NY. Even if SJU could afford to pay him 8 million dollars, which they can't, why would he want to move to Jamaica, where coaching careers go to die. He wouldn't.

Once Mullin leaves everyone will talk themselves into Cluess then turn on him after 2 years.

Easy. He knows that no matter how great a coach he is, he will never see a Final 4 or championship, or be truly one of the greats at Wich St.

In a major conf at a well known program he can become the legend he never will coaching in that garbage conference. And at 53 this fact is even more urgent on his mind than for Miller, who can afford to be more patient

More like comatose...

Easy. He knows that no matter how great a coach he is, he will never see a Final 4

He's already been to the final four. He's been to as many final fours since 2010 as Saint Johns has since the Eisenhower administration.
