Fire Lavin!

Cal coach Mike Montgomery likely to retire. Wonder if the Wizard will be a candidate.

I would love it. However, my gut tells me that the word is out on Lavin. I can't imagine a major program making the mistake of bringing him in.

The word is out about Lavin, it sure the hell is. How many coaches and announcers have claimed the Johnnies were the most talented team in the B.E.? you don't have to be a basketball wizard to know Lavin sucks as a coach.

If what you say is true, then why were we picked to finish 5th? In actuality we tied for third and got the fifth seed. It seems we did about as well as was predicted.

You could argue that Lavin is why the coaches voted us to finish 5th. How else do you explain Wright and Buzz and co. all claiming we had the most talent in the conference? That doesn't seem to fit with the preseason coaches poll.

because the coach is factored in to the voting.

There is no question IMO that we had a very deep team. I also think that being deep doesn't necessarily mean that our top 5 players were the equal of teams that finished above us. Does anyone really believe that we had the most talented team in the Big east, but Lavin is viewed as such a bad coach that we were downgraded to middle of the pack? I think more than likely coaches weren't that impressed with our frontline returning players of Harrison and Sampson, as compared with the top players on the teams above us. Also, consider that Sanchez was believed to be an NBA talent but unproven and for the most part was far from that, and that there wasn't a spare part that delivered at a high level. My opinion is that Lavin facto0red little in that assessment, but of course you are entitled to yours.

Until they lost Whittington I expected Georgetown to be the most talented team in the conference. I think even after that they did lose him, they still had a slew of talent and experience. The Josh Smith experience didn't totally work out, and truthfully Starks, Smith-Rivera, and Trawick didn't carry them like I thought they would. But to answer your question I thought GU had the most talent, and I think we were about even with Villanova and Marquette. And I do think coaches didn't expect much from us because they saw how weak the offense was the year prior. Rebounding and foul shooting are all individual developments, but the offense we run and the inbounds plays we use, that's a product of coaching decisions. And I don't think any of the coaches in our conference expected Lavin to have a well oiled machine this season. So yes - they downgraded us for that.

So you wouldn't even consider Wojo or Hopkins?

Donny Marshall not available?

Ask Marshall, Smart, and all the top coaches.
Yeah everyone here says they wouldn`t come, but I`d still call them. Just to have them make that choice, and not every\one on here make it for them.
Lavin needs to go, C is now gone, we probably lost Adonis, so why do we need this guy?
Eat the two years, why wait? In my opinion he doesn`t care.
Now with that said, he`ll probably be coaching next year. That`s the way it goes at SJU.

You wont't know unless you ask...

I guess the most frustrating aspect is that we don't have any idea if the administration is considering dismissing Lavin. I would love a media type to press them for an answer. I know Lavin commented on an extension, but I don't recall the athletic administration saying anything.

Regardless, this is the right time to part ways with Lavin. Let a new coach recruit 2015 seniors. Otherwise we are married to Lavin for at least another two years. It's interesting, having no 2014 recruits gives Lavin leverage. It pretty much corners St. John's into bailing out now or sticking through the life of the contract.

No word means he is still the coach. Unless rumors start flying generally a school would not comment on not firing a coach.

I'm pretty sure people have posted a link with comments from the AD whenever someone says this is all Lavin. Also what makes you think we are stuck for 2 more years? Bad results with no recruits means he will be gone after next season.

Well, I figure it may be too detrimental to change coaches after next season. By this time next year, most all 2015 recruits will be committed. If we change coaches then, we will risk loosing anyone who has committed to us.

Unfortunately we probably will lose my candidate to replace Lavin. Wojo had an interview at Marquette to replace Buzz. Dammit!

To save face let Lavin resign and take some analysts job. I can't see our school firing him; be shocked if they did.

Fire Lavin? Why, right now he's our starting small forward next season.

The losing commits part shouldn't have any affect on who our coach should be. Lavin couldn't make the tournament with, in SJU's fabricated terms, "Two consecutive Top 10 recruiting classes," so what makes you think he will have success with another?

Agreed. I think Wojo will make a very good coach. This was a missed opportunity. We may have been able to get him.

Wojo, Antigua both good pickups. I kinda like the Louisville assistant that Red Johnnies mentioned.
