Fire Lavin!

I'm the first to admit that expectations for Lavin have fallen short, but just who is going to step in and change things around in a couple of years if Lavin's not extended or if he leaves ... some retread, someone who's been booted for lack of success with a lesser D1 program, someone who's never coached an upper-echelon D1 program ... someone who's won but with baggage, or someone with no baggage but no success? The names being thrown out here -- some are the usual suspects we've heard over and over again --just don't inspire me, and odds are the ones that do wouldn't be interested in St. John's, which more and more looks less like a sleeping giant and more and more like a giant sinkhole.

You must be nuts to want another assistant after the Roberts disaster. None of these assistants have the resume Norm had as an assistant and it was a complete and utter failure.

I think that with Sampson under the delusion that he will get drafted, Jordan Obekpa and Harrison all suspended for at least one game by Lavin, and other assorted unusual occurrences perhaps a psychology degree is requisite for a coach.

Redken, In your orgininal comment you listed all coaching categories with the exception of the Billy Donovan, Rick Pitino, and Jim Boeheim of the CBB world. None of them are coming here, Donovan already turned us down once. We need to find a diamond in the rough assistant coach or NBA coach and build him up.

Why would Donovan ever leave Florida for SJU?? People on this forum need to get real!!!!!!

It not on this forum, before Lavin, Repole flew down to Florida and personally offered Donovan the job. He obviously turned us down.

What we need is a diamond in the rough top assistant or a mid-major top HC looking to make the jump. Everything is a gamble, we just have to hope and pray that our next move pays off big time.

In a virtual world, electronic imaginings, repeated often enough, can become faits accompli, requiring in depth virtual contemplation about appropriate response.

I'm not even sure why I am playing this game since Lavin is not leaving, but I'd permanently walk away from St. John's Basketball if they hired another assistant after the Roberst disaster. There are guys that have proven successful at both recruiting and coaching. To even entertain someone unproven in either category would be an epic mistake. Let them prove it at Wright State first, then we'll see.

So you wouldn't even consider Wojo or Hopkins?

I don't even believe THAT happened. Even Repole wasn't prepared to offer Donovan the kind of cash it would take him to come north.

Donovan turned down $3mm+ per year.

He was already making $3.5 million a year. Repole is so damned street smart, he knows Donovan would never make a lateral move to cold weather where the cost of living is 50% higher, and there is a 10% NYS income tax where Florida has non. I don't believe there is any truth to that, no matter what was written.

"Donovan became one of the highest-paid ($3.5 million a season) coaches in the business after leading the Gators to back-to-back titles in 2006 and 2007 and has produced a number of NBA players"

It does seem like Repole must have known he was on a fools errand.

Cal coach Mike Montgomery likely to retire. Wonder if the Wizard will be a candidate.

I would love it. However, my gut tells me that the word is out on Lavin. I can't imagine a major program making the mistake of bringing him in.

The word is out about Lavin, it sure the hell is. How many coaches and announcers have claimed the Johnnies were the most talented team in the B.E.? you don't have to be a basketball wizard to know Lavin sucks as a coach.
