Fire Lavin!

Now this is interesting. Lavin on the radar for the UNLV position:

"A slew of high profile candidates have already emerged should Rice leave: Jay Wright from Villanova, Steve Lavin from St. John’s, Josh Pastner from Memphis, former UCLA coach Ben Howland, former UNLV and SDSU assistant Marvin Menzies from New Mexico State, former Runnin’ Rebels star Reggie Theus from Cal State Northridge."

After reading the first name on this list, why even post it. Definitely BS because Jay Wright would never leave Villanova for another college job. He has an opportunity to leave a legacy there and going to UNLV would not do anything for him. It is amazing that people will post anything without even considering the logic of it.
While i am disappointed with the season we just had, I have a hard time with posters using any and everything to strike out at Lavin. Saying he is using this as a bargaining chip with St Johns without even knowing the facts is totally nonsensical !!!!!

This comes from the San Diego Union Tribune ---not the National Enquirer. It is a very large, legitimate media outlet

I don't know, whether the info is legit or not. But your theory doesn't necessarily mean the info is legit because you it is considered, in your opinion, a legitimate media outlet.

BS is and can be written in papers.

I totally agree that BS is written all the time in the papers. But since this particular story came from one of the largest newspapers in the US, not some lone-wolf blogger, I didn't think it was out of line to mention it. They could be dead wrong, I agree, just like ESPN has dropped the ball on this particular story a few times as well.

It doesn't matter, whether it was written by one of the largest newspapers in the world. That's irrelevant. The point is we've all seen info with holes in it written in the papers.

It wasn't out of line to post it on the site. It's relevant news to the program, so unless it was written by a known-hack or some lollipop site, then not much of a big deal posting it.

Maybe those are just names that UNLV is considering. It doesn't mean the coaches are likewise interested. Why is it BS that UNLV would want jay Wright---or Lavin for that matter.

I think you're addressing this to a couple of others. But I'll chime in from my prospective.

Actually, I don't think it is BS UNLV would target Wright or Lavin. I was just responding to Simmons, in reference to stories being printed in legit media sources can have holes in it.

Please UNLV, go after Lavin, I beg you.
Lavin then would be closer to home.
I think Lavin would take it.

It would be a win for everyone: The fans (alot dont want him), UNLV (they get their man), and Lavin (he`s be closer to his mom).

Lavin would be a huge hit in Vegas for at least a couple seasons. And his wife would be a short flight way from LA. But I suppose we should be careful of what we wish for: Mas is no longer an option. Who takes the St. John's job if Lav was to leave?

I'm also willing to bet my life that the headline in the Daily News would be "He's Lavin Town!" and the Post would be "He's Lavin on a Jet Plane."

Speaking of UNLV, I wonder whats going on with Savon Goodman. I know he left UNLV after his burglary charges but wondering if he will ever play again at another school. Might be a head case but he was very talented, would be a shame if he never gets it together and wastes his abilities

I guessing that if he is Fired/ Extended/ or he steps down.
It will happen after the Fox gig. NC game is April 7th.
So probably the 11th or 12th. They should know what direction they want to go in by then, and the future doesn`t look bright with Lavin. Why prolong it?
If nothing happens then they`ll probably give Lavin next season then they`ll make their choice.

Just speculation

If Marquette is having trouble hiring a coach. What gives you the faintest idea that St. John's would find a suitable coach.

We certainly don't have one now. Can't get much worse.

Here`s my idea.
SJU should call the top 10 head coaches available, maybe 3 or 4 would think would be some what interested, and call back.
If not, then make a top 10 list of assistant coaches, assistants want to be head coaches right? So maybe 7 or 8 would return the phone call.

Hey even the great John Wooden was once an assistant.

Where was Wooden an assistant? I'm reading Seth Davis' book on him and find myself extremely intrigued by him. I thought he went from coaching high school in Dayton, Ky to South Bend, to Indiana State and then UCLA. I could have missed something though.
By the way it is a great book!

Fun fact, John Beilein was never an assistant.

The appeal of NYC, a more storied history and a much bigger name. Any coach worth their salt(no pun intended) will see this as a great opportunity. Getting the kids here is not a problem. That leaves the coaching side of things.

In fact, all of the reasons Lavin himself came here. Those saying we cant get anyone of quality and are lucky to have Lavin just dont know what theyre talking about

LMFAO Seriously??? People are saying we`re lucky to have the great Lavin?
The same Lavin that didn`t anything with his recruits (DONT GIVE ME THAT NIT CRAP.), and the same Lavin that if we lose Adonis, it will be 1 recruit in two years.
Yeah he`s great alright.

I would take Ben Howland in a heartbeat over Lavin at this point. If he can't land Delarosa with his brother here he deserves to be gone.

Cal coach Mike Montgomery likely to retire. Wonder if the Wizard will be a candidate.

I would love it. However, my gut tells me that the word is out on Lavin. I can't imagine a major program making the mistake of bringing him in.
