Fire Lavin!

Technical led to two free throws and the ball for Depaul and they hit a three on the possession. A huge turning point in the game.

Hooper sucks. Lavin wants out, he knows he cant. You need 2 points to win so has GG and Hooper in tha game. Lavin is an idiot and it is time for every body to stop thinking he is great. He needs to be fired.

Nobody thinks he's great dude, believe me. There a few who believe in giving the man the rest of the year before judging, I am one.

If things don't improve, I agree, he should probably be let go, but give him a chance to finish out the year, see how it goes.

PLEASE.......GOD.......PLEASE!!!! Do not let St. John's make me suffer through more years of Steve Lavin.

This is the worst basketball coach I have ever seen. I am now at the point where I declare the following.........If you like Steve Lavin as your coach, you don't know enough about how the game of basketball is played.

Baron Davis said it all.

Our fans have the shortest memories. Lavin delivers highly ranked recruits every year (will leave the debate on how good they are for another day) and guys question his recruiting if someone isn't signed for 3 months.

In 2010 Lavin coached a very flawed and limited team that was 11-8 after a 25 point drubbing to Gtown (fourth blowout loss of the year) that went on to finish 9-2, winning 7 at home with a friendly 2nd half schedule (6/11 home games, three against ranked teams vs. six to start). This team has nine home games remaining and only three total games against ranked teams left.

8-1 at home would not exactly be a Herculean effort with Nova out of the way. Similar to 2010/2011, the SOS will be a life line all year.

You make it sound like the SOS means we are a good team. We lost to DePaul in front of 500 people and Penn St. in front of 1,000. I will give you that the games were close. Who have we beaten? Georgia Tech, Columbia, San Francisco........ I also don't agree about the recruiting. Harkless, Pointer, Harrison, and Sampson was great. Obekpa and Branch ok and Jordan was a steal. He also recruited Jones, Hooper, Balamou, Gift, Marco, Sanchez, Greene. I see recruiting as getting worse not better. We are not involved with any top players for 2014, so this great team we have this year will be the same next year. I shutter at what our 2015-2016 team looks like.

Do you honestly believe this staff can make us into a reasonable road team, despite results to the contrary, & hold serve at home the rest of the way? I respect your "never say die" attitude, but wonder if you really feel we have a coaching staff capable of turning this around. I regretfully just can't see him doing that.

If this team is in a close game against providence and closes it out in the final minutes and wins the game,a lot of my optimism about this team will come back. Need to close

I think they will rip us to shreds in Omaha, but I think we can pull it out at MSG. They will be a top 15 team by then at this rate.

How could you disagree about recruiting when I didn't take a stance? Holy sh*t.
And where did I say SOS meant we were a good team? All it does is mitigate the large # of losses and provides some context. We are 9-7 after playing #2 Syracuse, #3 Wisconsin, #6 Nova, @ two top 40 RPI schools, and five schools ranked between 97-122 in the RPI. We aren't 9-7 after playing all MAAC and NEC teams.

I will go on record to say that Lavin will not sign another top 100 recruit before he resigns.

This is the worst basketball coach I have ever seen. I am now at the point where I declare the following.........If you like Steve Lavin as your coach, you don't know enough about how the game of basketball is played.

You, my friend, have clearly not followed St. John's basketball long enough.

Those of us not yet ready to grab the torches and pitchforks suffered through much worse. (See: Roberts, Norm; Jarvis, Mike; Mahoney, Brian; et al)

I will confess, I might join the mob if Lavin tries the "it's not a losing season; it's a learning season..." line.

Coach Carnesecca recruited me to play baseball at SJU (he was the frosh Baseball coach) I played for Coach Kaiser on the Varsity Baseball team. Both men were class acts then and still are. They continue to promote SJU and act as good will ambassadors. Both played a role in the movement and formation to the new Big East after the raid. They will be greatly missed when they are gone. A thank you and a hug the next time any of you see them will be very appropriate and appreciated by both of them.

Bill, thanks for your post. Over the years, I've met former athletes for our most visible sports - basketball and baseball. To a person, they have ALSO represented the University well. It's good to hear from former athletes who hold our coaches and school in high regard - not just for wins and losses, but for the character and goodness of the men who not only taught them how to hit a curve, but helped mold them into solid citizens.

How bad would things have to get for him to be let go this season?

In college sports, you do NOT, EVER, EVER EVER fire a coach mid season except for scandalous behavior. Even if they lost every game from here on out, you do not fire the coach. We did that with Jarvis, which was a huge mistake, and when you really get down to it, the hooker gate scandal in Pittsburgh, which happened after his dismissal, got pinned on him.

You guys should all calm down. Lavin may elect to leave before his contract is up, but at this point, there is little chance the school eats the rest of his contract. For those who want Lavin fired, that "little chance" is much closer to zero than even I would admit. It just isn't happening.

I'll say this again and again. If you really want to see some wins, get off your asses, and come to a winnable game on Thursday, and support this team. Everyone is frustrated with an 0-4 start, but you know what fans do? Fans root FOR their team.

There are some great supporters of the program who are ready to give up the season, but I'll tell you guys this. Even in this crappy loss to DePaul, the team game us a lot of moments of very good basketball, but failed to close it out. I once sat with 50 friends in my section, and only a very few remain (I can only think of one family), so I am often the last guy in the room.

Show up and root. They might surprise you by winning, and Thursday could be the first step in reclaiming the season. I honestly think the players have more heart than our posters. I'd bet the house on that.

If this season continues to spiral out of control I can't see lav coming back.... He has fed us and the media a giant bill of goods but this pr can't last!? I've said this from day one... We gave too many holes on this team to compete.... I'll take a roster of mid major talent that develop and over achieve than this any day! Lavin and staff have to be held accountable for another disappointing season

Would you walk from $1.5 million per year if you didn't have the next better thing lined up? Do you think Lavin has pride? I may not like him personally (I don't), but I also think that any coach worth two cents doesn't want to walk out on a fixable situation. If and when he does leave, I think it would be under better circumstances, and not because of an underperforming team. Watching him on the sidelines, he looked as competitive and fired up as ever, not lost.

He is not the right guy bottom line!! Pride yes I'm sure he is full of pride....but he won't last if this continues
