Mussini chose us when we were in the complete toilet. Kid could of went somewhere else (most kids would off) . I don't remember him dogging it last year when we getting our doors blown off. He continued to compete.

Sure he has his limitations. But he can shoot, can't argue that. But he seems to like St. John's and represents us well.

It's also true that Yakwe chose us when we were in the complete toilet--and he was a top 100 recruit, who had offers from the likes of Kansas, Louisville, Syracuse.

In any event, there is a difference between questioning a player's ability/role in the team and questioning his value as a person. The former I would assume is fair game on these boards (the latter is not) but maybe some "safe spaces" should be set up for those who find such comments to be indelicate.

Lots of players chose us when we were in the toilet: we've been in the toilet almost the entire century. I don't remember too many how dare you criticize Gene Lawrence posts. Or how dare you compare Phil Wait to Sean Muto. Or I want Ricky Torres to succeed because I'm latino. I don't recall anyone chanting Vive Le Bourgault. The emotional investment in a marginally talented player like Missini is bizarre.

LOL did you ever hear of boxing? Yeah it's not like Latino's root for their own ie. Mexicans, Puerto Ricans. I haven't exactly seen any Italian flags at our games or opera singers or accordion players. At the fights they bring Mariachi bands for crying out loud.

I have nothing against him as a human being and I understand that he played under adverse conditions last year - as did everyone else, not one of whom got the same benefit of the doubt, quite the opposite. On the court I see a one dimensional player: he's small, slow and weak, he turns the ball over, he has poor court awareness and a bad handle and could not guard a stanchion. He's the fourth best guard on this team and next year will be the fifth best guard. Love to see him get better, don't think he will.
 
Mussini was one kid on a crappy team last year that I could root for. He was better than expected the first half of last season , but wore down because he played out of position and had too much PT. He was a FRESHMEN. His progress, and that of SJU basketball, will improve as time goes by. He will develop into a good component with proper usage and good coaching.
How about some good words for our kids instead of degrading their efforts and abilities? And any kind of race issues should dropped instead of trolling the board with such stupidity.

There was no 18 page thread last year about Durand Johnson, who's infinitely better at basketball than Missini. There was no 18 page thread about Ron Mvouika, a 40 percent three point shooter last year who's infintely better at basketball than Missini. Why? I think I know. I don't question the motives of every poster who roots for Missini, but only because I know the motives of some of them, so I don't have to ask the question.

You want Missini to succeed because he's a pasean, god bless. Me, I want him to succeed because if he does we do. But since I am not blinded by blood or kinship I don't pretend that he's anything other than what he is. Which is that he's capable - capable - of shooting well from the three point line, and otheriwse he stinks, by every metric by which stink is measured. I spent three years ragging on Phil Greene, who despite the difference in melanin is in fact an apt comparison: he looked better than he was as a shooter and otherwise contributed nothing. No doubt that makes me a racist.

Show me a thread about what a fine representative of the university Durand Johnson was. Show me a thread about how hard Bashir Ahmed plays. Here's a clue: you can't. Missini is not fit to carry Phil Missere's jock and he was a paesan as well. That would perhaps make me a racist, if Italian was a race.

Mussini has become a bit of a fan favorite, for a variety of reasons. We've seen it before with kids of all races and many different ethnicities. It's human nature to root just a little harder for a fan favorite. I did not however see anyone proclaim Mussini the second coming of Ernie D. Many of us still think he can have a useful roll on this team. You are convinced that he's completely useless and should never again see anything more than garbage minutes. Fair arguement. But why the need to inject race?
 
This thread has taken a comical tone. We all care about our players. Mussini is no different. His being Italian, the greatest nationality ever created, no nothing to do with anything. He is a role player and just another brick in the wall Mully is trying build. One brick at a time. Sometimes you just need stronger bricks so the wall doesn't keep falling.

You guys are blind, mussini shoots lights out. If this team goes anywhere this year or if it is possible to compete with teams like nova, we need mussini.

Great job lightening the mood 72. Will have to cut the teacher Fun some more slack as those kids especially a young Mussini dressed in his suit and tie look awful difficult to deal with.
