Europe Trip Details

Great photos. We have some strong looking guys. Jones and Gift are obviously big dudes. Sachez also looks big and Jamal looks thicker. Not many backcourts are going to out-muscle Jamal and Deangelo.

Does anyone remember if we play again tomorrow?

yes

I believe the team we play tomorrow is Evreaux who beat Temple by 31pts the other day. They are up a bit higher in league standings than today's team. Should be a tough test, against a better team than today.

According to that site their starting five goes 6'7,6'5,6'5,6'2,6'1. We should have the size advantage.

Some decent college players on the roster. A number of double digit scorers at Oregon, VCU and Drexel. Doesn't look like a ton of size on the squad.

Found these tweets from a person who watched the game

@BBFromLA: Checked out St Johns University in Paris today. Well-coached team, extremely athletic squad. Will be a handful inside.

@BBFromLA: Steve Lavin has his guys playing hard and defending the rim like crazy. 6-9 Freshman Chris Obepka was particularly impressive.

@BBFromLA: I could see Obepka (with similar measurements to those of Larry Sanders) turn into a good rim protector/high motor at the next level.

That Temple squad is really young and from reading the box score of that game, they turned the ball over a ton.

Not sure how we'll fare, but definitely should take advantage of the size that we have.

Didn't Temple basically lose everyone? Anyway, not sure how the game will turnout, but I'll tell you this...we won't lose by 31 ;) too big and too talented.

not sure if anyone posted this yet but, this tweet has me worried that we still have a problem defending the 3.

Orlando is on the board and JaKarr just spun for two. #SJUBB down 27-22 with 5:24 to go in the half. Cleaning the glass but need to stop 3s.

Well we did play the 2-3 zone according to tweets. I'm going to assume the majority of those 3's were zone busters

Cleaning the glass is more important. Syracuse doesn't work hard at guarding the 3, but they're one of the most successful teams around because they own the defensive boards. You can give up some looks from 3 if you clean the defensive glass. Can't ignore both. I'd certainly like to see us do a better job closing on shooters, but more important is the defensive glass.

I can't remember the last there was this much buzz over a game that probably 99% of the posters on here could not watch or listen to live. I think that says a lot about how much we are looking forward to this year's squad. Yes, I know its just one game & that there will be road bumps along the way, but still a good way to start this trip. Lets make it 2-0 tomorrow.

You play these international teams, most of them live and die by the 3-pointer. Most can't match the Americans in athleticism, so they load up on 3-point shooters, since that is likely the only way they can compete. You see it in the Olympics all the time.

I don't think we've played a game that we couldn't watch or listen to live since the infamous buzzer beater loss to Ohio in Hawaii in 2007. :cheer:

I know Harrison had four fouls and Greene and Jordan didnt suit uo, but it was interesting to see Max get 20 minutes and so some serious damage while Marco only got two mins in his home country. What was with the 1/2 from the ft line though?!?

Huge line from Dom 8 PTs 7 boards 5 assists, 5 steals. Sanchez did exactly what I think he'll average 8 and 7. Odd that he didn't get a block and we only had three as a team. That could be a product of the opponent playing from the perimeter, though. 24 mins from Sanchez compared to 8 and 7.5 for Jones and GG, respectively. Jones grabbed three boards and GG grabbed four...love that! Those two need to come in with one thing in mind and get it done.
