Ellison and Williams

Amar moving on.

He had to know he was living on borrowed time, considering he was pushed out and them mysteriously brought back after last season.

I think at the time I posted something to the effect that it would happen again, so hopefully he takes summer classes and doubles up on classes so he could graduate and be eligible next season. Hopefully if he had the time and the foresight that's what happened.

Owens, Clark, Yakwe, Ahmed, Simon, Lovett, Ponds, possibly this" in the bag" eligible transfer and even Mussini will be the core next year. Liked Williams but honestly those 9 guys are who were going to play next year.

If "in the bag" does not show up then Williams and even AA loss will be felt.

If Williams and/or AA's loss is felt, we are in really deep trouble next year.

If 'in the bag" is not here of course we will. Or "if in the bag" is worse than Williams.
Hope not but would not be shocked if either scenario came true. You?

Things always go well for us;

What's the ETA for the cat being let out of the bag?

I will never understand the fascination with SJU having to recruit every NYC player.

Not every NY player, but, in no particular order:

Because Coach Mullin said: "The history here at St. John’s, we’ve always been strong in New York City, and I guarantee you you’ll see me in public school gyms, Catholic school gyms, the AAU gyms all over the city. You don’t have to tell me where they are, I played in all of them. I know how to get in the back doors. If not I know the janitor.”

Because the NY players give me more confidence than the players from Africa.

Because the NY players give me more confidence than the European players. I only remember one very good European player (Seton Hall´s Arturas Karnishovas) in the Big East.

Because if Jay Wright recruits and offers multiple local players (Pennsylvania, with the exception of Rysheed Jordan and there was a reason) why not we can make the same?

to me we need 2 bigs now either 2 grad or grad and juco. If we lose Amar then we need 3rd.

I agree that we need 2 bigs. But I disagree with the option that they have to be 2 grads because the next season we would have the same problem. I hope that we will get Moses Brown.

I would get a grad and a freshman (more balance). I don´t understand why we are not recruiting Isaac Kante (local, now playing prep, recruited by Georgetown, Georgia and Kansas State).

Maybe we're not recruiting Kante because he has made if clear that he has no interest in us/staying home. Don't know for certain, but that's the assumption I'll make based on who else is recruiting him and since Matt seems to be on every kid who shows any interest.

I will never understand the fascination with SJU having to recruit every NYC player.

We don't have to recruit every local player but it's nice to have some. Right now we have two with Ponds and Ahmed. I loved the team with Artest, Barkley, Jessie and Glover I believe because they made it more fun for me to root for them.

I hope in the bag is some player b/c with Yakwe and Owens as our only true bigs we will be very thin up front. I think STJ needs 2 " in the bags"

Supposedly one guy is a big eligible right away and two swing guards that will have to sit out.
Hopefully the "in the bag' guy is better than Norm Roberts "mystery recruit". That mystery recruit was terrible. It was almost like he didn't exist at all. ;)

When I first started posting a lot of people thought I was Realfan because I was so negative. I thought I was just being honest. Once Mullin got hired I try to only post more positive things. Also Dinkins and Marillac stopped posting as both seemed to hate me.

Sometimes I feel like we are SJU posts the things that I think but don't always want to say. It's like he is reading my mind.

Two sit out swing guards? With Simon and hopefully 2018 recruit Luther Muhammad how does that fit?

That is what I said, though wouldn't bet anything substantial on Muhammad and pretty sure Lovett never sees his Junior year

I am relatively confident that "in the bag" is actually "in the bag". And that he will be an improvement on DW. If it wasn't close to certain, I don't know that the staff would have let DW walk so easily. But making a lot of assumption, I really don't know.

If we don't get a couple of bigs we're in for another rough season.
When do we get discouraged?

All 3 players leaving are transferring because of playing time issues. They must know that others are coming in and taking their spots (Justin Simon, Marvin Clark, transfer big). This 3 right there account for the 3 guys leaving.

True but I felt all year this team was missing at least one more productive big. Given that Clark isn't that tall, either "in the bag" has to have some great size and step in as the team's most productive big or I feel the team need's a second big like Mike said. And I hate agreeing with Mike.

Nathalie agrees with you

Any reason why "in the bag" big has not been disclosed? At least on Redmen.com.

Actually there are no big surprises when you consider that some of these guys came to St. John's because the cupboard was bare and they had a shot at considerable playing time. Now that the roster is filling out with better players, some of those will want to depart, and others will be cut loose.

Sad to see Amar go. Really nice kid and apparently great teammate, and of course he is a white kid from Italy.

Relax.

When does the signing period begin, 2nd week of April?
If he's in the bag, he'll sign the loi the first day, I'd assume.

I used to be all anxious too, now I'm just chillaxing and having patience.

Transfers don't sign LOI

I don't know if the Williams transfer is a result of playing time. Because of his injuries it seems that more than he played here or would play next year would be hard from a physical stand point and he also gets into a lot of foul trouble. I will miss him though. He was a great surprise when Sima left and had a wonderful attitude. Hopefully he will find a school where he is happy.

As for Ellison I know that many like to talk about his faults but he helped us win a few games as well. He has some skill and I would expect many schools to have interest. He needs a tough coach who will make him play harder and teach him to play smarter. He will be fine in the right program.

Play harder and smarter, you are so right. Like dive on the floor for loose balls and cut out his cross court passes. For some reason Ellison never learned from his mistakes.
