Ellison and Williams

Actually there are no big surprises when you consider that some of these guys came to St. John's because the cupboard was bare and they had a shot at considerable playing time. Now that the roster is filling out with better players, some of those will want to depart, and others will be cut loose.

Sad to see Amar go. Really nice kid and apparently great teammate, and of course he is a white kid from Italy.

When did Amar say he was leaving?

He put it into song:

All my bags are packed
I'm ready to go
I'm standin' here outside your door
I hate to wake you up to say goodbye
But the dawn is breakin'
It's early morn
The taxi's waitin'
He's blowin' his horn
Already I'm so lonesome
I could die
So kiss me and smile for me
Tell me that you'll wait for me
Hold me like you'll never let me go
'Cause I'm leavin' on a jet plane
Don't know when I'll be back again
Oh babe, I hate to go
But you really should have kept Chris Jones!

Any reason why "in the bag" big has not been disclosed? At least on Redmen.com.

Relax.

When does the signing period begin, 2nd week of April?
If he's in the bag, he'll sign the loi the first day, I'd assume.

I used to be all anxious too, now I'm just chillaxing and having patience.
Transfers don't sign LOI

My bad, they're already in coll. then they'll just announce it I guess

Looks Like Joe Franklin's office at WOR-TV.

I will never understand the fascination with SJU having to recruit every NYC player.

Not every NY player, but, in no particular order:

Because Coach Mullin said: "The history here at St. John’s, we’ve always been strong in New York City, and I guarantee you you’ll see me in public school gyms, Catholic school gyms, the AAU gyms all over the city. You don’t have to tell me where they are, I played in all of them. I know how to get in the back doors. If not I know the janitor.”

Because the NY players give me more confidence than the players from Africa.

Because the NY players give me more confidence than the European players. I only remember one very good European player (Seton Hall´s Arturas Karnishovas) in the Big East.

Because if Jay Wright recruits and offers multiple local players (Pennsylvania, with the exception of Rysheed Jordan and there was a reason) why not we can make the same?

With all due respect anything Chris Mullin says most posters here would take as the NEWER New Testament. The game and society have changed. Most of these kids want out of ny. They see these campuses on tv. These packed arenas. Massive student sections. Grass instead of concrete. They want to leave and more power to them. Get out and live life see the country

I agree with you 1000%about OSNA. I'm tired of going to that well for sure. You will never have me disagreeing there.

As for Nova 4 of their 15 are from Pa. and two of those never play. You only have so many ships to offer. I don't think blanketing NY players with offers is the right way. Last thing I'll say is for every diamond in the rough that slips past SJU and succeeds elsewhere there are countless others who do nothing in college ball.

The best New York City players seem to prep elsewhere. Very few high D1 talent remains in the city. To keep up we need a national approach because out of town kids may be more inclined to come to SJU than local kids.
Let's see if this staff can sign a couple of local kids next year.

Williams joins a list of SJU players from California who have transferred in the last years: Dwayne Polee, Norvel Pelle (although he didn´t enroll), Amir Garrett, Max Hooper and walk ons Myles Stewart and Olisa Nwachie.

I hope that Justin Simon won´t be the next one.

Max went from Harvard to SJU to Oakland
in jobs thats like going from google to time warner to AOL

I just laughed out loud. That was pretty funny. By the way, will your brother be in a helicopter Monday. Mets opening day is here again!

I literally was just on the phone with him now. I'm not sure if he will be flying Monday. His dog just got diagnosed yesterday with advanced cancer and the doc just gave his dog 4 months to live so he might be trying to get one of the other pilots to fly for him.

I thought Mullin gave Ellison a lot of prime time playing time.. Malik was frustrating because it seemed he had some useful skills and went to the rim hard, albeit, sometimes out of control..

I never figured out why Mullin used him to bring the ball up and try and be a playmaker, when Ponds and Lovett were more suited to that role., only thing I can think of, is Ellison's size gave us better opportunity to see over the Zone from outside ? Lovett and Ponds seemed to have difficulty moving the ball around the top of the Zone, especially with bigger players playing them up top.

Nobody, even Purvis Ellison can criticize CM for not giving Malik a chance to develop his game.. Hope he improves his foul shooting, jumper and BB instincts with a year off. Maybe he transfers to L'ville? Although he would be a sub there..

The first two he can definitely work on. Not sure you can improve basketball instincts at age 20, at least not too much.

He'd learn a lot in practice at Louisville, but if he wants to play, he needs a mid-major.

Sorry to hear both about your brother not flying and his dog. We just got a new bulldog puppy and he is already a full blown member of the family. Bulldogs have a short life span of 8-9 years so have to enjoy him while he's here. I remember you had some great shots of the helicopters last year. I'll look for them anyway.

St. John's transfer Darien Williams tells me he will visit Washingon State this weekend. Immediately eligible. Two to play. #SJUBB
Per Rothstein

Really one to play

I think he's originally from San Francisco, so it would be the closest he's been to home in a while. Would like to see him at a WCC school so he could have a bigger impact.
