Duke Game Thread

Very proud of the team and the coach today.

Yes I have issues with us having no depth but this team was up for the game, just couldn't match Dook's collective talent across the board.

Dom was a beast and I hope playing in front of 200+ scouts gets him a shot in the summer league. He was everything I envisioned when he was our highest rated recruit coming in.

Many will disagree but I thought Okafor owned Obekpa.

You can give a kid credit for ball denial but CO was literally hanging off his back every possession. He could've been called for any number of fouls if the refs wanted to.

CO needs to desperately stick around for his Senior year and work on his rebounding and guarding guys straight up. Waldow, Okafor and numerous bigs push him around too often. He did hold his grown against the #1 pick which is saying something.

Sheed looked amazing for a half. That was vintage Vaux Sheed. I hope he carries it through the rest of the year.

D'Lo. Gave us nothing on one leg. Kid is all heart but he was the difference. Even 3/4s healthy and we win. Kinda hard watching him out there. He killed us but he has saved us so many times you can't hold it against him.

Lastly, I don't care about Diallo, Lovett or anyone else.

The staff better go out and find a dedicated rebounder. I don't care if the kid can't do anything else outside of rebounding. I don't care if he's unranked. But it should be the highest priority. I don't know if ADR is the guy but we need someone just for rebounding. It is glaringly obvious.

And Coach K can take a hike for all I care.

So many great points in one post.

I don't believe there were 200 plus scouts there. There was 200 plus media people there. Either way I don't think Dom would have impressed scouts. He is an undersized foward who can't shoot.

Gotta love it when you have a 3-0 break, or whatever it was, and the whistle gets blown "inadvertently" so instead of getting a fast break layup or dunk, you have to take the ball out at the side.

Things even out. Harrison's 3 at the buzzer before halftime should not have counted.

They spent all their energy during the first 30 mins of the game. They had nothing left for the last 10 mins. That's the bottom line.

I am happy with how our kids played. They left it all out there on the court and busted fheir tails. It just wasn't enough.

Back to conference play.

Good post. Okofar was limited to his average game basically. Im not sure how much more could have been expected.

Dom was the best player on the court for both teams. If the nba drafts on potential, somebody should take a shot on him. He's better than jakaar. Love how we knock our players who leave it all on the court.

With all of the attention this game got and everyone watching, I'm sure it will reflect favorably upon us when it comes time for selection Sunday. They saw what we are capable of as opposed to just glancing at a box score.

Close calls don't mean anything to the selection committee.

Speaking objectively, St. John's doesn't have many impressive wins this season. Minnesota is 13-8, Syracuse is 14-6, Providence is 15-5. They've had shots against Gonzaga, Villanova, and Duke. Haven't closed out any of the games.

5 out of our 6 losses are to ranked teams essentially. Butler will be ranked this but SH will be out. Also, all that matters is RPI, not W/L of the teams.

How can you not be proud of the team? They have played big against both Gonzaga and Duke. It's the losses to DePaul and Butler that haunt me.

Is this fact or opinion?

Our biggest win is against st marys. We are on the outside looking in for the ncaa bid. I feel for the players but they don't win snd that is what counts in the end

He did. Problem is he didn't get it off before the shot clock expired. The replay showed that clearly. There was about 2 seconds differential between the shot clock and time remaining in the half. We got away with 3 points there.

Are you forgetting the win @ Providence? They're a top 25 RPI team.

Also our SOS is top notch so far. Look I know we still have work to do, I'm not saying we're in right now, but our resume isn't horrible.

Our RPI and SOS were pretty good coming into today. 8 more wins and they will dance. Problem is, that will not be easy. Much work to do. We need a healthy DLo and he clearly is not even close to 100%. It's been an enjoyable season so far. Hopefully they finish strong, which another thing the committee likes to see.

I loved being at today's game. It had the feeling of relevancy. Even though the buzz (and sell out) was largely driven by Coach K, it just felt good. It reminded me of why I long for the Johnnies to get back to being consistently successful.

I was definitely proud of the guys' effort. DLO is definitely still hurt, but we just have to hang with him.

The frustrating part of today's game was not finishing when we got turnovers. So many examples.

Overall, we're not dead yet. These guys have enough to make a run through the conference schedule. Will they? ....no idea.

Harrison only retweeting people who said he was a non factor. Poor guy

Hopefully he is smart enough to realize he should be listening to those that admire him for playing the minutes he is with the kind of injury he has. Anyone who watched Aaron Rogers play with a calf injury saw how you can move but you have no explosion, no lift from the legs so vital to shooting, you lose the ability to plant and push off to change direction quickly. Harrison should be praised because his presence still requires teams to play him honestly and opens up the court for other players. It is a shame this happened and anyone criticizing Harrison knows nothing about what they are talking about. The absolute shame is that it is a very slow healing injury and I think it will linger for the rest of the year.
As Weatherman reminded me at MSG, same injury plagued Robert Werdann his senior year & adversely effected his play. It is indeed a slow healing injury.

Just got back from the game. As much as I was pleased with the effort by our guys, I am still so damn po'd at the outcome. Especially after leading by 10. I was starting to think we could win this thing, but then it all fell apart. I had to leave before the final buzzer. Couldn't stand to see the Puke team and their obnoxious fans celebrate on our court. I know I won't be getting much sleep tonight!

On to BE play. Have to grab two wins this week. Turn out the lights if reverse occurs. Being 2/6 is too big a hole for our spirited, but undermanned team. If our leading scorer remains hindered, that makes things quite difficult obviously. Beat Creighton!
