Duke Game Thread

Coach k, like Jay Wright, had his 2 big guys in there at the same time and we never sniffed a rebound after that. Okafor and Plumlee were just too strong for us. It turned the game around. Our team composition has no answer for teams with the big, strong Centers and Power Forwards.

DLO has been hampered the last 3 games and clearly has not been a contributor like we've been accustomed.

A nice effort but... fell short in the last 5 minutes. We started getting beat off the dribble late and they started their 3pt sharpshooting. And, we had way too many empty trips when we were trying to stem the tide of their run.

They had the game and blew it. That is the bottom line.

Couldn't be more proud of our guys today. Obekpa showed he can stay with Okafor. Pointer and Jordan were something else in the first half. Lavin had an good offensive plan in the first half with their
fast pace. Same story, however as we played with only six regulars. Had to be exhausted. Can't win these close games without a healthy Harrison. Thought the refs did an excellent job, obviously not Big East refs. Once we went up by 10 and pretty much maintained the lead I was counting win #14.

Would have definitely help w rebounding.

1. DLo's a warrior but his leg is definitely causing him to miss shots he's been making all year. That was a huge difference for us.
2. We went from 8:22 to go to 2:35 to go without a bucket. Lot's of decent looks but nothing falling. Maybe law of averages but I think it was tired legs.
3. And Okafor and Plumlee together we had no answer for - no more second chance points for us but a lot of OR's for them.
4. Finally their guards are perfect from the line so you can't foul your way back in the game either.

Basically our starting 5 played them great. We had a great game plan and they executed it well. But without a couple more players that can slot into the rotation to give guys a break, its tough to win a game against that talented a team.

Gonna be the story of our season as so many of us speculated from the beginning. Talented starting 5 but not enough bodies to have the energy left to pull out tough games at the end. I think Coach has to lengthen the bench in the middle of the second half even if it appears to be the wrong move for that point in the game just to make sure our core guys can finish the last 10 minutes strong.

Harrison probably should not be playing; not because he is going to get hurt more but because calf injuries are very, very difficult to play with; in most sports but especially basketball your legs are everything. He just can't play with any effectiveness. Great effort by the team, but again, we just cannot close out games; our experience counts for nothing. While bummed, props go to Obepka IMO, he played a very good game against Okafor.

i wouldn't say obeka had a good game against okafor. the freashman put 17 on him and 6 offensive rebounds. C.O had 4 points and two offensive rebounds[/quote]

If all you do is look at stats, ok, then all you need to do is look at a box score to decide what happened. In reality, the game is much more than that, I watch the game for my opinions. .

The big lineup they had killed us. We can play with anyone for 30 minutes.

Agree. We couldn't bang with both Plumlee and Okafor in there together.

I would have liked to see Amar get a few minutes vs. Plumlee.

Oh well a valiant effort but still an L come selection Sunday. Back to the big east.

Refs really allowed Okafor to pump for offensive position the whole game.

Leaving game now, all I can say is this was rat face's day. And that Dom will be remembered as a kid who laid it all out there

Disagree CO had a good game vs possible NBA #1 pick.

When Okafor wanted to he toyed with CO. Chris can't play against legit NBA size. Big bodies just back it down against him and can shoot over him.

Nice effort by team in the loss. Congrats to Coach K he deserves it and the Duke team showed how its done down the stretch. Harrison lack of contribution the last three (3) games is problematic for us getting back in Big East play. While we played hard tonight, I have a bad feeling for the rest of this season. For some reason I am feeling a 9-9 big east record and a miss of the NCAA and another trip to the NIT. Hope I am wrong but its the bad feeling I have. And, having a let down game on Wednesday against Creighton is probable/possible, so it will be interesting to see how the team plays. Watching Butler, G-town, Seton Hall, Nova. I am uneasy about our matchups against all these teams.. If d lo is hurt and its effecting his game then we are in trouble.

Don't confuse me with the facts.

Hurts badly. Really thought we had it. At least we played well.
Yeah when it got close to the 8 minute mark I started to think we could do it. Just needed two more good 4 minute segments. Two minutes later we had lost our lead. Wow, what a heartbreaker. Let's hope this jump starts us to take it to our upcoming BE opponents and go on a run. DLo's got to get healthy but hopefully this game gives Dom and Rysheed the confidence they need to carry us for a few games while he does. And Steve, please start using some subs in the second half. It just isn't gonna happen playing 5/6 all game.

so do i. and that was not a very good game against an opposing center. maybe it was a good game by obeka;s standards if thats what you mean

Obepka did an excellent job fronting him and preventing him from getting the ball. Okafor backed hinm down a couple of times but again I thought Obepka played him very tough. Having said that, is Obepka an NBA center possibility, no.

Absolutely, Obekpa fought all game getting position on Okafor, had to be exhausted. The Dukey scored early but once Chris stuck with him they couldn't get the ball in low. Unfortunately Plumlee kept the ball alive.

I agree with that assessment.

Well, we just have to disagree.
