Duke Game Thread

Nope and nope. My opinion.

Don't get me wrong.... Having subs are certainly beneficial. But I've seen enough teams, and a few St. John's teams that weren't deep, but found ways to prevail for the most part.

We got nothing from Harrison for the most part, and that is where we practically lost the game, IMO. Shots he'd usually hit were misses. Changed the complexion in my mind.
I'm not arguing this point...if we had two useful subs in this game, we win.

Point blank. You're kidding yourself if you think otherwise.

These kids kill themselves every practice just to be ready for game situations like this. The other team had subs to give the starters a blow, we didn't. That's a huge difference and one that cannot just be ignored or swept under the rug.

Harrison did not have his best game, it's obvious, he's also hurt, but the pieces were there for a win regardless if we roll 7 or 8 guys instead of 5 or 6.

Well we gave a good account of ourselves for 35 mins, just went cold when it mattered. Not the blow out many predicted.

"We were getting our butts kicked for much of the game" - Coach K.

Let's beat the snot out of Creighton.

Well said, TX. I'm disappointed as hell, but the kids played hard, played smart. Lost to a good team that played better than us down the stretch.

IMO, the difference in this game is D'angelo Harrison.
That...and we have no subs.

Not over yet.

IMO, the lack of depth wasn't an issue. Harrison's no-show is or was the issue.

Still plenty of time.
You don't think them having subs is a bit of an advantage?

You don;t think the timing of their run is a coincidence, do you?

Nope and nope. My opinion.

Agreed but Harrison gave us nothing because he was hurtin'. And we had no one to come in and pick up some of the slack. So he played 40 mostly ineffective minutes.

Duke hit 3 straight tough and 1's and a killer tough three. That was the game. For that they deserve credit. But God damn that was our game. We left ten plus point off the board on fast break blunders. Can't do that and expect to beat duke.

It hurts that we lost, especially since we had the game in our grasp, but I'm proud of our guys. They played hard, showed a ton of heart, had guys step up while Harrison isn't 100%, and just fell short against one of the best teams in the country.

If we can keep up this type of play and intensity the rest of the season, it should be a fun rest of the year. Let's also hope D'Angelo gets healthy.

When Duke went to the two bigs Plumlee & Okafore the tide started to change we got no or few 2nd chances and, whether due to tired legs or just tightening up, they missed a ton of shots.,

I'm not gonna argue with you. You have your opinion on this one, and I have mine. I'm not gonna try to change your opinion on it, either.

Great effort. I think we can be a force the rest of the season if we don't linger on this bitter pill. Same effort the rest of the season.

Harrison probably should not be playing; not because he is going to get hurt more but because calf injuries are very, very difficult to play with; in most sports but especially basketball your legs are everything. He just can't play with any effectiveness. Great effort by the team, but again, we just cannot close out games; our experience counts for nothing. While bummed, props go to Obepka IMO, he played a very good game against Okafor.[/quote]

i wouldn't say obeka had a good game against okafor. the freashman put 17 on him and 6 offensive rebounds. C.O had 4 points and two offensive rebounds

Coach k, like Jay Wright, had his 2 big guys in there at the same time and we never sniffed a rebound after that. Okafor and Plumlee were just too strong for us. It turned the game around. Our team composition has no answer for teams with the big, strong Centers and Power Forwards.

DLO has been hampered the last 3 games and clearly has not been a contributor like we've been accustomed.

A nice effort but... fell short in the last 5 minutes. We started getting beat off the dribble late and they started their 3pt sharpshooting. And, we had way too many empty trips when we were trying to stem the tide of their run.

Disagree CO had a good game vs possible NBA #1 pick.

Dom is becoming one of my favorite Johnnies. Lavin better start using the bench more,or we are going to run out of gas the last 5 minutes and loose games we should win. DLO played too many minutes w his injury. A good game overall, but not a happy ending.

Hate losing. Almost.
We can play with anyone.
Need to take care of biz and get to our goal. Next game.
We need the Big East wins.
Lets go!

Proud of our guys.
So easy to root for them.

Agree with getting more time from the bench.
