Duke Game Thread

@TomPenders: @wallyball Correct ! This Duke team is no juggernaut ! Can't shoot ! Hope this one doesn't hurt SJU. They have to play this hard in Feb.

Gotta love it when you have a 3-0 break, or whatever it was, and the whistle gets blown "inadvertently" so instead of getting a fast break layup or dunk, you have to take the ball out at the side.

I agree but there were bad calls both ways. It's not like we lost by one possession either. We got destroyed in the end.

This hurts, but we played respectable at least. Could have been worse outcomes like a blowout or last possession loss, but still a loss is a loss.

This team has proven they can handle pressure down the stretch, such as in the Syracuse game. There were some nerves but I think Duke is just a better team and put together a great run. The size was a major, major factor as we couldn't get a rebound. No single play caused us to lose.

I agree it was a bad whistle but it happens. Geez, we got outscored 26-7 down the stretch. We got the advantage of a bad non-call to get a three pointer at the half time buzzer. We lost the game, we stopped making plays, we got out-rebounded and beaten to the loose balls in the last 5 minutes. One obscure call had no affect on this game at all. Every game we lose we pull out the ref card. Kinda like the way I always playing the I hate Lavin as a coach card. By the way, I thought he had a good defensive game plan today. We just don't close out games.

So we're all stewing over this loss, and will until Creighton on Wednesday. Hats off to our guys, who all gave it 100%. We hung with one of the top teams in the country, and our best player was clearly hurting (and he still gave it his all).

Thanks for a fun and exciting ride today guys - the only reason you see any negatives is because we want you guys to win so badly!

Harrison only retweeting people who said he was a non factor. Poor guy

It will be heartbreaking if we don't make the tournament this year and he never gets to experience it.

Hopefully he is smart enough to realize he should be listening to those that admire him for playing the minutes he is with the kind of injury he has. Anyone who watched Aaron Rogers play with a calf injury saw how you can move but you have no explosion, no lift from the legs so vital to shooting, you lose the ability to plant and push off to change direction quickly. Harrison should be praised because his presence still requires teams to play him honestly and opens up the court for other players. It is a shame this happened and anyone criticizing Harrison knows nothing about what they are talking about. The absolute shame is that it is a very slow healing injury and I think it will linger for the rest of the year.

This upcoming Creighton game scares the crap out of me. The starters expended so much effort today, only to have to get on a plane (who knows when with the upcoming storm) and go on the road. Great effort today. Need Harrison healthy, no doubt. But Pointer and Jordan need to give us this production every game.

Don't think we should be focusing on one call, but going back to that Sheed play at the 8 minute mark... didn't he travel and it wasn't called anyways? Making the call a net positive for us getting ithe ball back?

Anyways, just win a couple Big East games now and everything will be good again. They can make the tournament if they play like this.

With all of the attention this game got and everyone watching, I'm sure it will reflect favorably upon us when it comes time for selection Sunday. They saw what we are capable of as opposed to just glancing at a box score.

This one hurts. WE had this one and we ran out of steam. The "inadvertent" whistle killed us too, along with a couple of favorable foul calls around the same time.

I had to shut it off, I can't watch them celebrate.

I think whoever blew the whistle thought Jordan walked as the ball slipped out of his hand as he was attempting to pass or at the same time Duke's Jones brushed against Jordan as he was going for the ball. Obviously one of the refs changed his mind.

Harrison is one of my favorite players to ever wear the St. John's uniform. He plays with more heart than anybody.

But let's be perfectly honest here. He's been awful against DePaul, Marquette, and Duke. Can't sugarcoat that point. We're not just talking about long distance shots. I think he missed 2 layups today in the last 10 minutes alone.

Doesn't mean much unless we get to 10-8 in conference or 9-9 with a win at nova. Let's just go 5-0 these next five and put ourselves in great shape

Hope it doesn't scare them too much. This team needs wins desperately.

Realistically speaking, I think 21 wins gets them in the tournament. That means you have to close out the season 8-4. Is it possible? Of course it is. But you can't afford to lose games against a team like Creighton.

Close calls don't mean anything to the selection committee.

Speaking objectively, St. John's doesn't have many impressive wins this season. Minnesota is 13-8, Syracuse is 14-6, Providence is 15-5. They've had shots against Gonzaga, Villanova, and Duke. Haven't closed out any of the games.

Very proud of the team and the coach today.

Yes I have issues with us having no depth but this team was up for the game, just couldn't match Dook's collective talent across the board.

Dom was a beast and I hope playing in front of 200+ scouts gets him a shot in the summer league. He was everything I envisioned when he was our highest rated recruit coming in.

Many will disagree but I thought Okafor owned Obekpa.

You can give a kid credit for ball denial but CO was literally hanging off his back every possession. He could've been called for any number of fouls if the refs wanted to.

CO needs to desperately stick around for his Senior year and work on his rebounding and guarding guys straight up. Waldow, Okafor and numerous bigs push him around too often. He did hold his grown against the #1 pick which is saying something.

Sheed looked amazing for a half. That was vintage Vaux Sheed. I hope he carries it through the rest of the year.

D'Lo. Gave us nothing on one leg. Kid is all heart but he was the difference. Even 3/4s healthy and we win. Kinda hard watching him out there. He killed us but he has saved us so many times you can't hold it against him.

Lastly, I don't care about Diallo, Lovett or anyone else.

The staff better go out and find a dedicated rebounder. I don't care if the kid can't do anything else outside of rebounding. I don't care if he's unranked. But it should be the highest priority. I don't know if ADR is the guy but we need someone just for rebounding. It is glaringly obvious.

And Coach K can take a hike for all I care.
