DePaul

At Least the Big East will the Chicago market to feed off of if DePaul continues to improve because they sure as hell won't have the NY market. Also, the only reason why Lavin has been able to pull Spring recruits out of his ass the past two seasons is because he was able to BS them about the future success of the program. Recruits now know that that's BS. Delarosa is going to Georgetown where they actually develop players, especially big men.

Posters on here are always wrong about where recruits end up, so hank you for saying that.

Sampson is transferring to Harvard after the game tonight

sadly Hooper missed his opportunity to be the hero, if he hit that three. They just don't know how to win at this point. Really tough loss. Now you have to win every home game from here on out. Period.

Forget about that. The only thing that has to be done from here on out is for them to somehow put together a miracle run in the Big East Tournament.

They will have more than 2 wins. Climb off the ledge.

We will be at least .500 in conference.

I want to agree with you but after losing to Depaul in a virtual neutral court game, my optimism has gone out he window.

I was very optimistic at the beginning of the season. Mine is gone as well. I'm just going to the games because I have the tickets and like to drink beer.

How is it a virtual neutral court game?

There were about 300 people in the stands, there was no "sixth man" like one you'd find at this Creighton game.

Surprised Monasch gave Lavin ten year extension after game. February just around the corner I guess.

I do not understand how Lavin calls a timeout after a timeout, and draws up no play. They were down by 1, and they hoisted a 3 on a fast break?!?!?! Branch had done a good job of penetrating and finding open men all night. Had to have him in there. Could have even put Sampson back in.

Then again, after the previous timeout, they passed the ball around, and Sanchez eventually launched a prayer.

Did you watch the game??? Pretty much defines a "virtual neutral court game"

Ummm...just why did we need a 3 when we could have gotten a 1 point lead with less than 6 seconds left? I just don't understand the reasoning.

Exactly. Our last two shots after time outs mind you were three pointers. Did our terrible bench coach understand we trailed by one point. I wanted Jordan to drive and pick up a foul on our last play, but instead Hooper was set up for a three. God's Gift had an excellent game but had to be winded. Why not Sampson? Never got back in the game after picking up his fourth foul. Plus, why didn't Branch play more, like to see him start with Harrison and Jordan.
Our defense was poor, DePaul penetrated against our zone and man defense. Too many fouls against us again.

HARRISON ONCE AGAIN CAME UP SMALL DOWN THE STRETCH...I CONGRATUALATED HIM IN THIS THREAD EARLIER FOR PASSING MARK JACKSON, BUT HE WILL GO DOWN AS ONE OF, IF NOT THE MOST OVERRATED PLAYER IN ST. JOHNS HISTORY.

THIS PROGRAM IS A **^Y^%^ DISGRACE!@!!

You sure it wasn't you that had the concussion?

Drowning in my sorrows watching this Creighton game, Creighton should be top 15 by the time we play them, chance for a quality road..... Oh forget it

Bad decision by Harrison to try to put it up when he was surrounded down low.

Jordan got stripped on the double team

Sanchez wasn't a horrible look from the right corner, but a horrible shot - air ball

Even with all that the 3 point specialist was open to nail a huge shot, and missed

And the undersized center GG knocks the rebound out of bounds.

And that was the game.

what gets me is that Harrison absolutely had to see a wide open Hooper just prior to that ill advised force...we play like a bunch of guys who want to be the hero...

I like Beast's summary above since it said all in the end. I am not going to defend Lavin but he gave Greene a start in his home town and that has to be his last start of the season! Absolutly abysmal performance by PG1V! His last foul literally cost us the game and Lavin took him out immediately but the bad decision by Lavin to put him in in the first place was plain STUPID!
Enough about Lavin and back to the players that played below freshmen level tonight, namely Jakarr Sampson. When a guy who is reduced to scratching his noodle at the end of the game on the bench because he just seems to lack any basketball sense is not a Lavin issue IMO. Lavin saw enough to take him out but this kids' skill set may have peaked.
Same goes for Dom Pointer...I refuse to call him Sir from here on after that stupid, stupid, stupid technical that cost us another 2 points. These three players would have made John Wooden look like a bad coach in this game.
Kudos to DePaul who were incredible from the line.
And finally, I repeat, the level of the officials has taken a dive in the new Big East! Replays clearly showed no travel on the Branch lay up and another 2 points taken away. In close games like Nova and DePaul, mediocre officiating will hurt teams and the league.

@NYPost_Brazille: Lavin: "It's part of evolution of a team, part of maturation of a group." #sjubb

What a joke. I thought we evolved to be a better team than DePaul, even with norm.. More like devolution

Really long odds to get to 11 wins.

11 Wins??? We can't even get 1!

This is definitely the worst season I can remember, partly because of pre-season expectations but also since this is the first season in a long time that we had a deep roster.... just awful. We looked good for two games and have looked terrible ever since. During those two games we played like a team making the extra passes and playing unselfish ball... since then just playground crap basketball with selfish play and crappy coaching.

There is no sense of team and its obvious the coach doesn't mind that type of play...

it all starts from the leader of this team and bleeds down.... DLo is the most selfish player I have ever watched in a SJU uniform... For a player who is allegedly so good I am just shocked how many ill-advised stupid shots he takes, especially in crunch time... the rest of the team follows his lead.

Sorry to the DLo fans here, but I am ready to move on and find a new leader for this team.... Maybe its Jordan, maybe its someone yet to emerge, but of all the scoring leaders in recent years: Hatten, Hill, and Hardy, I put DLo at the bottom of this list...

Stupidest comment ever blaming Harrison. If it was not for him we would if lost by 25.

An extreme reaction no doubt...Harrison played great...But, his forced shot (with wide open Hooper) absolutely turned the game

If you're talking about the shot that I think you are, there was no time left on the clock. Jordan started to drive, the lane got taken away and he passed the ball to Dlo with 2 seconds left on the shot clock. All he could do was heave it.

@NYPost_Brazille: Lavin: "It's part of evolution of a team, part of maturation of a group." #sjubb

No it's not. It's called not getting the job done. Just once I'd like to hear Lavin say "this was a bad loss, we didn't get the job done".
Not everything is a damn teaching moment!@ Not everything is part of some grand scheme to eventually be a great basketball team. Sometimes the players don't play well and the coaches don't have them prepared!
