DePaul, Sat. Jan. 6, 2p, YES (FOX) /Radio 570AM or 970AM

Just got home from the game. No idea what it looked like on TV, but to me this team looked like they didn't want the game bad enough. DePaul came into our arena and punched us in the mouth.

-Ponds is silky smooth, but the kid needs to add some intensity.

-I realize we have to play Yakwe and Amar a little......but why always at the same time???

-Ahmed actually did play hard today, as did Yakwe.

-This team needs to understand that defending the three doesn't mean running out there and waving your hand. You need to get up in the shooter's grill and obstruct his vision.

Opponents 3-point Shooting Percentage
DePaul 47%
Creighton 46%
Seton Hall 45%
Providence 53%

I don't need to tell anyone here that these percentages are outrageous. Clearly a problem that needs to be addressed.

-I would say the team also needs to learn how to box out, but I think you actually have to want to win first. They really were embarrassing today.

I'll tell you what it looked like on TV
It looked like they picked random guys out of the stands to wear our players' jerseys
We didn't shoot a foul shot until there was 13:40 left in the game - unbelievable!!
We were killed on the boards and on second chance points
We were happy to shoot 3's and DePaul was very happy to let us do it
We made no attempt to get the ball inside
The only player that made a strong effort was Yakwe
Ponds' 3 point shot continues to be AWOL
What did it look like? We stunk out the effin' jernt!!!!

Must agree Pay him 2million plus and we are still getting blown out with basement dwellers of the league. SOME HERE WILL SAY WE ARE BEING NEGATIVE .BUT I agree if MULLIN GOT HIS WALKING PAPERS WE COULD NOT DO WORSE AND SAVE MONEY
Did not see the game but glad I did not change my plans and say home to watch the sad game SOME SAY GIVE HIM TIME BUT I say time does not appear to have changed anything. Some say we are young But I say not that young some say coach can not coach I say for as long as he been in the game and around great coaches it should not have been a huge leaning curve, some say his recruits have not lived up to expectation I say perhaps we should have beed more aware of ea. players short comings Some say staff have to teach the players how to defend better but I say if you recruit 6-0 guards it is hard to teach them to defend 6-4 guards I COULD GO ON AND ON BUT WHAT REALLY MATTERS IS WHAT THE TEAM AND STAFF DO FROM HERE. They should at their level be able to shoot 70 % from the foul line Which might have given us 2 more wins If Depaul blows us out how many big EAST games will we win ? SORRY FOR THIS POST WAS JUST EXPECTING A COMPETITIVE GAME

Just look at the game stats Perhaps ,the margin we were out rebounded by was the games achilles heal But can not see how we can change that.
GUESS we still have a chance at the NCAA we can always put a few great games together and win the confr lol

While I am disappointed in the result..this is not the end of the world. Should we have won..yes Are we in a difficult situation now to make the NCAA or even the NIT (the way we are going)..Yes.

The lack of rebounding was crushing. Some of the shot selection and dumb fouls (2 sec left on shot clock) and lack of killer instinct was clearly evident. What bugs me the most not is lack of energy from the players but from the coaching staff. All game long I was looking over Mullin sitting on the scorers table. Does the dude have a bad back??? I kept comparing him to Laito. He was up and instructing from the sidelines. Directing the players where to be. Mullin....NOTHING! St.Jean was the only voice on the sideline during game play. Look at any of the successful coach's in the league...they are alive and energetic throughout the whole game. Do you ever se Boeheim sitting? How about Calipari? Izzo? Lavin (Had to put the zinger in there)? Not even 500lb Bob Huggins sits like that.

Are you telling me no one has told him how bad that looks.I can't believe it!

I wonder what would happen if Richmond (don't get me started on how useless I think he is) and Mullin suddenly disappeared during the game...,would the outcome change,,,,,I doubt it.

I still hold out hope but man t is getting harder harder every day.

Mullin is the Coach as Lavin was before him . I do recall a 0-5 start with Lavinwood with Harrison , Greene, Sampson , Jordan, etc . DePaul exploited every weakness our team has .. a lot of the poor play today is on the Players . They all Stunk badly ! Ponds 7-24 speaks for itself but, 1-9 from 3 confirms his shot is AWOL and has been all year . None of our players are what you would call Bangers under the Boards . Clark seems content to hang out in wing or past the foul line , not looking for any moves to the basket . Izzo must have been beserk that at 6’8” he has no interest to go inside and do the hard work . Owens , as JT3 said today has read too many of the press clippings about his3 point range and that was about all he did today . Few shots blocked or inside put
Backs . Simon misses a lot of dunks and bunnies , which really hurt since he has no shot from outside 10 feet . He didn’t play well today and seemed like he was content letting Ponds Control the ball and Shamorie is not a natural PG . We miss Lovett and it’s turning into a real mystery as to what , if any the timetable may be ? Ahmed played hard in spots but, has no interest in rebounding . The harsh reality is that the Skills our players have are not complimentary to their teammates . Is that on Mullin or Matt ? We have nice Athletes but, lack BB players . The 2 Big DePaul kids , Macic and Strus, aren’t great athletes but, showed they are B.B. players . How come we don’t recruit players like that ? What do you say Matt A?

Very disappointing and disheartening loss. No game plan. All teams run stuff intended to create open looks. We run zero to get Ponds some easy looks and hopefully restore his confidence.

Someone earlier in the thread laid out the opponents 3 point shooting %s over the last 4 games. It says it all.

Maric and Strus both grad transfers and the difference between DePaul being DePaul.

Just got back from the game. One of the most disappointing losses I’ve ever seen. I don’t think any more can be said about the players and the coaches. It’s all been said.

I thought the turnout was pretty damn good for a game on an arctic afternoon. And what added to the disappointment was for our guys to play so poorly against a big crowd. Can you imagine what those folks who came to see St. John’s play for maybe the first time this year must be thinking? And the crowd so desperately wanted to get into the game. There was a point when we were coming back, DePaul turned the ball over and the crowd went wild. But then we didn’t score and they scored and that’s all she wrote. I can’t be at the Georgetown game on Tuesday night. Maybe that’s a good thing.

Bottom line is athletics bring money to schools. If your basketball program is winning then you will get fans in seats & school will get money. We are a bad basketball program from top to bottom. If we want to be good and generate money then pay a coach with proven track record, start winning, and fans will show. Mullin can’t do any of this

We have 7 BE caliber players. That’s too few. Especially when an important one misses 9 or more games. The issue is mostly one of lack of depth and personnel.

Our bench is non existent. Happy Yakwe showed some of his freshman promise. We need it.

It’s just plain wrong to say this team isn’t more talented than the last few years. But I agree it seems we need better coaching. It reminds me of when I was coaching CYO. I was a well meaning Dad with little organized bb experience. When we won games it was because we had a few good athletes. But I was regularly outcoached by guys who had played organized call in HS and college.

I hope next year as our team roster is full with talent Mullin has help with coaching especially in the defensive area, and rebounding.

Again a very disappointing result today.

Assuming Lovett leaves, and the other 6 return

Ponds, Simon, Owens, Clark, Trimble, Yakwe

Bad part is well have with 6 new guys with talent but will have to all gel together on court (realize 3 of them are practice only already)

Keita, Dixon, Diakite, Brooks, Williams, Roberts

Now, assuming 1-2 other unknown departures, makes the gelling even harder.

Is this overrated as an issue or legit concern?

Glass half full- I guess I can maybe plan a vacation in march without fear of missing out of an ncaa trip :)

Assume the core of Ponds, Simon, Owens & Clark return and those 6 guys come in, there is no excuse for this team not to be in top half of BE next year. None.

Welcome back down to earth! "Mental Health Day"??? Get the F outta here! Mental and health shouldn't even be in your vocabulary.:p Of the 1000 words you drank your way through for this synopsis the only one that mattered was "Hurley" because instead of listening to logic the spineless and toothless "insiders" that conspired to fire a coach that took them to 4 post season tournaments in the four years he coached chose a legend we all admired and put him in an untenable position that may sully his reputation for the current generation only familiar with his coaching or lack of thereof. Whatever!

Above the table there were two factions: one to keep your favorite foil Lavin and one to fire him and hire the best coach St. John's could afford. The best coach St. John's could afford was named Hurley. Gold star to you Fun for your insight.;) Under the table a conspiring small group of ass wipes manufactured a "savior" to restore glory to a program that can't seem to walk and chew gum in the same gym without tripping over a bad hiring decision. The latest victim is Chris Mullin. Perhaps had we not had a lame duck A.D. and a rookie president a guy named Danny Hurley may have better prepared his charges to play smarter basketball, take better shots, teach them positioning and aggressiveness when it comes to rebounding, etc. Instead, we are left to debate amongst ourselves here what catchy slogans can justify our mediocrity that has again propelled us to the bottom of the Big East barrel. We will "trust the process", make "incremental progress", "rebuild from ground zero". Of course we deserve everything that will result from such arrogance. In the end we will all feel sorry for Chris Mullin because we put the scalpel in his hands. That the surgery may be a success in some eyes, the patient will still be dead in the end and a doctor named Hurley may be needed to undo the damage done to the asylum known as St. John's basketball. Will Chris choose to stick it out? He just may be arrogant and hard headed enough to try and every red blooded Redman fan knows the slogan should he not give up ------ " there is always next year"............

How do we play so poorly in the second half, yet end the game with 2 timeouts left?
I think we need to seriously examine the competence of the head coach and his ingame adjustments.
This team still does not know how to boxout, takes poor shots, can't defend the 3, and gets killed on the boards. I'm almost ready to start chant, "Wait 'till next year."
Next year will present many of the same issues. For those blaming Matt for the composition of this years roster and lack of depth that would be like a passenger on the Titanic after the ship hit the iceberg going up to a porter and asking him just what he was going to do about it. Responsibility is on the Captain. On the offensive end we never have anyone near the boards when one of our guys takes a shot and on the defensive end nobody boxes out hence we continue to get beat off the boards. We did a great job in the nebraska game and most thought our rebounding problems were solved and today post game Mo says it's not rocket science we have to be tougher. Well talk is cheap do something about it. A lot of rebounding is mentality DePaul should not have been able to kick our ass on the boards today. Knock somebody on their fing ass! Clark says we got punked on the boards today all the while he piled up another rebound or two and now he wants to talk about it in a team meeting. Talk is cheap break an fing blackboard to start the meeting I'll pay for it.

Having great seats I get to see a lot of things many fans don't see. Today that was not a good thing. I wished I could have covered my eyes. The red-white pregame Mexican food tried to make a quicker exit that I did, that's how bad it was.

Ponds flipped up a lot of garbage taking it to the hoop that had little chance of going in. Ahmed shot selection has zero to do with game situations, Owens went from the college version of Ewing on defense to the NBA Ewing, content to pop 18 footers. Ali goes in and you hope against hope that something good might happen, and you know how that ends.

Bad loss. We've lost 2 home games to beatable teams, and 2 away games where we stayed in the game but I never got the feeling we would win.

Thin roster, 0-4 and no Lovett. Season over? Probably, but all we can do is watch. Not pretty right now.

Welcome back

Other than that you find me so fascinating that you can't go two posts without mentioning my name or plagiarizing my writing I find you to be a gaseous, tedious bore.
