Could it have been mutual. st johns trying to get kids who are going to clear. just an idea.

It's about Coach Lavin's health. Nothing else makes sense. These young kids have a lot of guys whispering in their ears.

I've thought that all along.

I think if St. John's is truly his leader, he made a mistake decommitting. It's much harder to find talented big men than it is to find a talented guard. If we ever get this thing rolling again, he might not receive an offer the second time around.

And this is why he never signed LOI.

Looks like he'll be 2013 or Juco so I think decommitting so the staff knows where they stand for 2012 is the fairest approach, though I'm sure the staff was aware already. Since he said STJ was still his favorire they'll just have to see where things stand when he's ready to get to a college campus.

Not Lavin's health. Academic/clearinghouse issues unfortunately.

Regardless if it was clearinghouse issues or Coach Lav's health or something else it continues to build a sphere of negativity because young prospective recruits just read the headlines. It also makes a lot of sport writers get on the N train.

If the Wood issue is true! What is going on? We do not know the depth of the situation> Lavin has to make a statement to dash any further "bad news".

What is going on? Well the Wood issue is true, that's what's going on. I believe we know the depth of the situation.

He went to NIA prep. The four kids who graduated NIA prep and were going to play D1 ball last year had their eligibility denied as the school didn't pass NCAA muster and the grades/classes were denied as part of the qualification package.

See Zags article on the subject:
http://www.zagsblog.com/2011/08/18/six-nia-prep-athletes-denied-eligibility/

Wood actually committed to St Johns 2 days after that story broke. Wood has a full year of course work from that school which would be subject to the same review and denial I guess.

This was oft discussed when he committed but it was generally believed (or at least hoped) his time at Bridgton would make up for the NIA classes or maybe the NCAA would cut him some slack since he was going to an accredited (by NCAA standards) school for his last year. Apparently that belief was wrong or hope unfounded.

Kid says St Johns is still his fave but apparently he won't be playing college hoops in 12/13. I think all that is clear, if very unfortunate.

Kid has some issues qualifying with his NIA grades and I'm guessing he's not on track to graduate this spring. We didn't take a LOi this fall because of pending issues. Best thing for the kid and the school right now is for him to de-commit. If he's able to somehow qualify, I'm sure he'd be brought on. As of now, time to focus on filling 2012 spots.

Correct. To add, part of the problem was some "delay" in receiving his NIA transcripts before fall signing.  Unfortunately, some of the issue is the kid not getting enough done in the classroom, but also has to do with what transpired at NIA and it is unfortunate for a kid who wants to be here.

Ok where did you get your the information > Do you have solid ground to stand on?

If it is Lavin's health and not eligibility............ he must make a statement to demonstrate he is still in the game.

The jets held a press conference after the last game and got all their stuff out there. SJU should not be any different.

Then I stand corrected. How about with Sampson and Gathers. Same issue?

Time to focus on 2012 was a while ago. We can barely field a team and we have 0 recruits. Im not saying Lavin cant turn things around but he has his work cut out for him.
