Could it have been mutual. st johns trying to get kids who are going to clear. just an idea.

It's about Coach Lavin's health. Nothing else makes sense. These young kids have a lot of guys whispering in their ears.

Not Lavin's health. Academic/clearinghouse issues unfortunately.

Then I stand corrected. How about with Sampson and Gathers. Same issue?

Different issues that have been discusse ad nauseum on the boards. Only Gathers that I know of, was/is worried about Lavin's health. I'm not really sure why. Lavin is going to be back whether in a month or next season. IMO Gathers has nothing to worry about. Lavin recuperating now, but will be back to normal next season. Gathers needs to realize that. It's obviously some fools in his ear telling him lots of different nonsense. If he follows his heart, he'll be the starting PF under a healthy Lavin-coached team next season.

Ok where did you get your the information > Do you have solid ground to stand on?

If it is Lavin's health and not eligibility............ he must make a statement to demonstrate he is still in the game.

The jets held a press conference after the last game and got all their stuff out there. SJU should not be any different.

danfog

The Jets held a press conference and said absolutely nothng. And I'm pretty sure Lavin can't comment about the player even if he wanted to.

I have to believe any recruit considering SJU has to be concerned about Lavin's situation, like it or not, that is just reality. I happen to agree with your assessment of the situation but so what? We are not making or having a son making one of the biggest decisions of their liyes. There is a great deal of stress and uncertainty in making a college decision in the first place and this just adds to it for both player and family. Obviously, Lavin is out recruiting and I'm sure getting the word out that he will be returning but until he is back on the bench there will always be uncertainty. We as fans have to keep the situation in perspective, IMO accept the reality as it relates to basketball, and pray that Lavin returns to health so he and his family get their normal lives back. Then basketball will take care of itself; at the end of the day as Mike Tomlin said concerning his decision to not play Ryan Clark in Denver- it is only a game.

Good posts by MCN and Logen. By the way, I hate the Steelers, but I'm a Ryan Clark fan. I'm a Redskins fan and throughly, enjoyed Clark's play and being a guy who tooked the late Sean Taylor under his wings during his time in DC.

It sucks Clark's sickle cell situation is gonna hinder him (like it did back in 2007) from playing out in Denver. It's certainly "only a game," although I think Clark will get a chance to play in the postseason next weekend. I believe the Steelers are gonna take care of Denver.

Back to our regular scheduled subject....

Wasn't there a conspiracy years back regarding the health of Lou C.? I seem to remember talk attributed to the current KY coach that Lou was not in good health so why would a recruit want to attend SJU.

As long as we don't lose the male dancer in all of this I'm staying optimistic
That kid has the best moves of anyone on the cheer squad, dance team and men's and women's basketball teams.

Per Scout.com....

Darrick Wood thought he was going to play his college basketball at St. John's.
But the 6-foot-5 wing prospect recently backed away from his pledge and has since become one of the most pursued small forwards in the country.

"Recruiting is going pretty good," Wood told Scout.com. "I plan on waiting until the end of the season to set up my visits."

Wood, who is finishing up his high school career at North Bridgton (Maine) Academy, said the schools recruiting him the hardest are Washington, Texas, Maryland, Memphis and Oklahoma State.

Wood, who is known as one of the top athletes in the 2012 class, never took an official visit to St. John's, so he has five official visits remaining.

Yes, there was

I believe that's how the "feud" with Calipari began

yes supposedly calipari told a recruit not to go to st. john's because louie was old and was going to die. carnesecca is still alive and in good health today. :p

I dont understand about the decommit in the 1st place. He was so adament about going to SJU, what changed? We could use another outside shooter.

Some folks believe he's too much of an academic risk.

 The recruit was Donta Bright.
Thought it was Bobby Martin 6'9 C-F from Willie Glass's Atlantic City high school team who ended up at Pitt where I think Cal was an assistant at the time which is when he made comment about Lou. Maybe he did it again at Umass as head coach with Donta.

I was going to chime in the other day but got sidetracked. It definitely happened during Cal's Pitt days, so pre-Bright.

I didn't know who the player in question was, though.

Getting Bobby Martin helped Cal get AC's Lou Roe to go to UMass. That made Cal's career.

Most people would argue that Camby made his career. And - well - we all know now how he got Camby to commit to UMASS.

Camby was important but Lou Roe was the best UMass player since Dr. J. Guy was simply a beast in college and turned around that program.
