Darrick Wood, SG

 The recruit was Donta Bright.
Thought it was Bobby Martin 6'9 C-F from Willie Glass's Atlantic City high school team who ended up at Pitt where I think Cal was an assistant at the time which is when he made comment about Lou. Maybe he did it again at Umass as head coach with Donta.

I was going to chime in the other day but got sidetracked. It definitely happened during Cal's Pitt days, so pre-Bright.

I didn't know who the player in question was, though.

If you don't know who the player was thanks for having the confidence in me to be right-as I stated it was BOBBY MARTIN!

As I remember it, the bad blood -- really bad blood -- over Bobby Martin was between and Pitt and Villanova, to whom he'd given a verbal commitment (or at least verbal assurances) only to sign with Pitt at the last moment, similar to us and the haircut guy (I've blocked his name from my memory) who signed with UConn ... except that Bobby Martin was a big-time, elite-level recruit.

Any word on this kid ? Where do we stand with him ?

There was an article posted on the Jungle in the past few days that said there's a number of schools in play but STJ is still his favorite. Others say it's unlikely he'll be eligible academically for 12/13 anyway.

there is always - in this here life - so much behind the scenes so it is very interesting when we (me included) comment or second guess on what's going down - whether what's up with a particular kid or with Coach Lavin.

I have trust and patience with Steve Lavin and why not - all he has done is - the obvious - do so much with the staff, with the public image, with recruits, with $$$ into the coffers. I see no reason to doubt his (and perhaps his doctors) decision to stick to recruiting and, of course, it can be a boon since he is out on the trail competing against assistant coaches more or less.

There have been "setbacks" for sure but not unlike every other program. We are just so preoccupied and eager to have SJU soar. It will, It will, It already has been (soaring) less we forget the past decade of floundering. Time. We've got a great coach and staff and we've got a program inching along back to where it once was.

Thanks but what does that have to do with me? I'm just answering questions by aggregating content some folks don't have enough time or search knowledge to find on their own.

I thought it was a courtesy to list your name - and I was just speaking (writing) out loud on my own views. You of course do a fine job and contribute wholesome contributions often. thanks.
