Come on, he got the inbounds pass in the back court with 12 seconds, took 6 seconds or so to get it upcourt, got a decent look and took it. As he should have.
Respectfully, disagree that Jenkins had a good possession as a senior pt guard in that moment. Could have went ten other ways that would have been better. May have had same outcome but it would have been better than a solo jacked up 3.

Fair, we just disagree……

We had every chance to win this game. UCONN did not play well. Dingle, Taylor, Luis and Zuby need to get more minutes, Jenkins and Ludlum far less. I’m done, disappointing loss for sure
Taylor had four fouls. It was Luis’s first game back. I like Ejiafor, but he’s presently a liability on the offensive end. I have no problem with the minutes distribution.

I do agree that Jenkins needs to be reigned in. He took a lot of bad shots. I give Ledlum a pass. He missed some critical shots but they were good shots. Kid is a good rebounder who leaves it all on the floor. He had a bad game no doubt, but he is a contributor whose play will be critical in determining whether we dance this year.

Someone mentioned in a previous post that CRP has to much trust in Jenkins. I would argue that CRP has to much trust in Ledlum.
I wouldn't call it "trust" in Ledlum, I would call it lack of other offensive options. Now, if Luis is healthy and plays the way he seems capable of, maybe we go with a smaller lineup more often and Luis takes some of Ledlum's minutes. Or maybe with Luis providing offense from the 3 spot, Zuby or Traore play more alongside Joel. Guess we'll see.

Why did the inbounder pass it to him? I'd take the 5 second violation, what;'s the difference? We knew he can't shoot for anything.

I'm watching the idiot dribble, I'm saying passsssss.
He wouldn't though, then I swear I said the entire play in my head.

He's act like he'll drive then do the step back 3 and he'll miss, and that's 100% what happened.
He's nothing more then a bench player.
To me, if he was reigned in, he’d be a better player. I don’t know if it has anything to do with loyalty from committing to Iona and coming here but Pitino isn’t really (seemingly) stopping his out-of-control play.

He’s definitely not a bad player and I do think he is a BE player but life is a little too comfortable for him right now and the constant shooting and out of control drives have to be reigned in. Passing is secondary to our 1 guard. That shouldn’t be the case.

Sorry, there is no coach in the world who can do that, never has been, never will be,
I use to think coaching didn't matter until I got older. I think RP is coaching up players. These guys play with each other like its a pick up game at a local gym. They do not know each other. They seem to also not trust each other on the court. The rotations seem like a hodgepodge and to me an outsider without any rhyme or reason. I can never predict the rotations (maybe this is part of the plan). I saw a few times certain players asking for the ball and Jenkins never passed it to them. Hopefully time can fix this very soon.

On the bright side Luis hit a midrange step back in this one that made my jaw drop.

He’s the key to this team breaking through and making the tournament IMO. Once he settles in he can be a stud for us.

Missed some gimmes tonight but I thought he played really well for a guys who only action all year was against Holy Cross. To be thrown in @uconn and immediately look like you belong is a good sign

Soriano should get more shots, no question, but Soriano’s style of strictly letting the game come to him is also part of that problem.
Also called being a center? Do you want him bringing the ball up and keeping it himself 13 times a game like Jenkins?

Jenkins is 2-14 from 3 in his last 4 games. If you take away lowly Sacred Heart, he’s an incredible 2-20 over 7 games.

Getting decent looks off dribble is only a positive if you have decent chance of actually making the shot. Jenkins hasn't mastered the second half of the equation.
This is totally true, but who else on the team can even execute the first part of that equation? For me, I was hoping that would be Dingle but I have not seen that from him yet.

Finding guards who can get off their shots and make them is not so simple. Where are Shamorie Ponds, DeAngelo Harrison, Dwight Hardy or Marcus Hatten when you need them?

More than twenty years ago I saw both of these two guys play in High School and was incredulous back then when Mike Jarvis passed on Ben Gordon in favor of Willie Shaw. As we know Gordon led his team (UConn) to a national championship and Willie ended up being a huge disappointment.

Great post. If Luis stays healthy he can really be a difference maker.

Understand the sentiment and Pitino>CMA any day but Mike A did win @Uconn last season fwiw
David Jones, Storr, Soriano, Posh, etc could all score and rebound. CMA couldn't control the talent he had and looked defeated near the end of the season.
Today's players are a different breed than the 4 year players we remember who grew together as both individuals and as a team.
Our former players from last season start on D1 teams this year at Butler, Memphis, Boise St, Seton Hall, Wisconsin.......none of them stayed together. It's every man for himself.

Putting that three aside, I just believe Jenkins takes far too many shots in face of a rather poor shooting % and seems less interested in ball movement and orchestrating. Guess Rick is ok with it, so no sense me beating a dead horse. On to the next one!
Maybe he hits the shots in practice 1703392803900.png

It was last year too.
