Relatively sure staff has already identified big guy or guys up front. But with portal money 💰 things can change quickly. Stud pg I have no clue who would even be available haven’t even heard a rumor of one yet if you are taking about grad transfers
Zed Key obviously is one name referenced out there for sure & Toby Awaka would be nice. Am sure there are others. The back channel portal process is already cooking it would be safe to say in this free agency hoops world.

We’ll obviously have to expect poaching of our guys too.

NC Johnnie , did you stray , even a little bit from the southern end of your basement on Saturday ?

I thought they may have happened in the 2 nd half when our Victory was snatched from our grasp .

You are absolutely right about Samson Johnson being a jr . I misspoke because he , dispute being highly recruited , had not been any sort of factor these last 2 years . So , his emergence this year , coupled with Clingan’s injury , kept him from a lot of notice .

If I can off as criticizing Joel , I’m learning from RP . Seriously , we would be no where without Soriano .

But , he’s got to be more aggressive in wanting that ball in the post . Him getting 5 shots is not going to serve us well through the Season . He’s got to almost demand the ball from his teammates . .

And , can’t be pulled away from the deep post on Defense like what happened in Hartford . Johnson wasn’t challenged on much of his shots .
Soriano has to have a really big season for us to make the dance and present himself as a possible NBA draft pick .
Sly you may have hit on it as I did leave the southern end of my basement to get a much needed beer midway through the second half. I’ll be sure to have sufficient libations stored in the basement in advance for future games!

Zed yes. I defer to LJSA on that. Another name dates back to us. Riddle. Toby you you have been on that name so I’ll defer to you .

Advanced planning seems likely so as not to disturb the Karma you are creating . Maybe you need a Basement fridge ?

I m wondering too , as many of us do, talk during the game , even if no one is there to listen ?

Yelling or Rooting is of course necessary .

I keep some paper towels nearby in case I have to throw something at the TV , after a bad play or call .

we did it with the game on the line and he made poor play giving it to someone under the hoop with limited options

I love Joel and he does need to get more shots. But he did get touches in the Uconn game that he did nothing with.
Joel to me lacks the killer instinct. He is timid for his size and ability.

Not sure if timid is right answer he has done well against other big teams. he's my favorite center in my life going back to Werdann so I'm definitely not knocking him. I want him to be more greedy and I think he should have personally kicked Curbelo off the team last year and I'm not joking. No matter how much you might like someone you F with my team ability to win that friendship bullshit is out the window

I want Joel greedy and hungry he has put the work in he deserves it

Typical demeanor sliding in an s bomb here and a f bomb there. However did say Soriano was one of the best big men in the country and at the end of the presser had some nice comments about Alleyne, although throwing in a dig about his role at SJU.

Interesting he would say something positive about Alleyne considering he hit one shot in the entire game. He’s a state school in a private school league with unlimited resources and NIL money. Too bad Val Ackerman didn’t think that through before she brought Yukon aboard. My fear is that they will continue to recruit at a different level which will give them a decided advantage going forward.

Re Wilcher, I am in the minority wondering if he is really the natural pg he is reputed to be and really more of combo guard. I know the sample size is small, but when I look at Elliot Cadeau at UNC I see a true freshman pg and don’t have the same impression of Wilcher. Hopefully I’m wrong.
As of right now, I think a combo guard will be our starting PG next season, but I don't think it's Wilcher.

I'd put Calhoun, Izzo and Coach K in the same group as Boeheim.
The problem is some times you get a whiner and a losing coach. It's a rare breed but, Bobby G was a whiner/loser, Tommy Amaker at Michigan esp and the champ whiner/loser Lane Kiffin (sorry for bringing up fb, but tis the season).

1. Glenn Taylor Jr. is shooting 45% from 3. He needs to be shooting more in general.
2. Jordan Dingle has to be looking for his shot more.
3. Luis should be closer to 100% for Hofstra, when he actually gets to that point and lets loose - he's going to flip this roster on it's head
4. That match up zone defense is going to give coaches in the Big East fits the rest of the season getting ready for it. Both Sean Miller and Dan Hurley weren't ready for it. Good luck to the rest of the bunch.
5. Missed opportunity no doubt, but this is about as good as you can feel on the outlook of the team after a loss as I can remember. Truly.
Glen Taylor is shooting 45% because he only takes good shots. He is the same caliber of shooter as Jenkins, but Jenkins simply doesn’t care what his teammates think. That’s the only difference.

We don’t need Taylor shooting more, we need Jenkins shooting less.

And I'll retort the say way I did earlier...then get him more open looks...run an additional play or two to get him an open three off a screen or drive and kick. He's proving to be reliable. We don't need him creating his own 3, that's the difference. With Jenkins shooting less closer to 10 shots a game instead of 12-15, you make sure those get distributed out to more efficient scorers like obviously Joel and Ledlum in the paint or going to the rim with Dingle etc.

A lot is clearly still a work in progress but offensive roles should be more defined. And Joel Soriano should be leading this team in FGA every single game.

It's about catch and shoot opportunities versus shots off the dribble. Big difference between the two in expected outcome for all but the absolute sniper sharpshooters. I am a BIG fan of using off the ball screens aggressively to create catch and shoot opportunities. You often will get a couple of layups off that type of action just off of defensive miscommunication / missed handoffs. Plus, teams tend to get away with a lot of moving screens off the ball. Almost never get away with it for an on ball screen for obvious reasons.

Long time member of the Forum but first time poster. I've been a Johnnies fan since 1965, the year I enrolled at St. John's so I've seen a lot of Redmen basketball. With respect to Jenkins, it seems to me from the games I've watched that when the Johnnies win the opening tap, the ball immediately goes to Jenkins who then races down court and he takes either a deep two or a three point shot. I have no objective data to support this but it seems Jenkins misses more than he makes.

The result of a very quick missed opening shot is the other team now has possession as if it won the opening tap plus it has a future possession arrow. If Jenkins makes the opening shot, it seems this gives him incentive to shoot more. All negative outcomes. I think that when the Johnnies win the opening tap, a play should be immediately set up for Soriano or Ledlum so that either could attack the rim while the other team is settling into its defense.

I stand corrected if any other posters have more accurate data.
