Coaching Decision Poll

In the end...does it really matter?? It's very obvious that anything less than a national championship every year is a major disappointment for this program.

Find me a post that says this

I can accept what he has accomplished on the court if recruiting was on the upswing. What we will put out on the court next year scares me and I am not confident this is going to get better. He is not a good enough coach to get the most out of mediocre players. Let's try someone else. I don't see what we have to lose.

Wichita state up qo on Kansas w 645 to go.

Give Marshall whatever he wants and let him be the coach. That's going from a 74 pinto to a brand new Ferrari.

Marshall has made it clear he would only leave Wichita State for a very high major job per articles on the subject. STJ does not qualify . He already makes 1.75 mill per as well.

http://espn.go.com/blog/collegebasketballnation/post/_/id/99081/what-would-it-take-gregg-marshall

We are a high major. - We won the big east regular season and went to the final four in 1985.

Avon, we should never think big anymore. Never think winning the B.E. regular season is possible anymore, if we ever think we can have a #1 ranking then we are living in the past, forget the F4 or hell forget about even winning 1 game in the NCAA Tourny. We should all be happy that we made the tourny with 21 or 22 wins afterall we are not Duke or UK.

And that's the gospel according to the Lavin defenders.

Wow, I'm shocked by this poll. 63% want an extension. I thought a higher% wanted him gone.

Does this mean that75-80% want him back next year?

ipd it's only 151 votes relax
Yeah only 25% of the precincts have reported. Waiting for the heavy anti Lavin vote from Nassau and Suffolk Counties to be counted.

No, that's your take on it. I don't know a single "Lavin defender" who feels that way.

After 29 minutes Desco80 declares:
"It seems clear that no one side can claim to speak for the overwhelming majority of St Johns fans."

It only took Desco80 29 minutes to express his outcome bias in the poll he started.

So this poll is now going into day 2 soon and the outcome effect expected by Desco80 is not what he was hoping for.  It occurs when certain behavior produces more condemnation when it happens to produce a bad rather than a good outcome.

When do the polls close? When the results approach 50/50?
Are anti-Lavin robocalls still burning up the wires?
Will Zach Braziller Tweet about this poll soon?
Will Lavin use it in his negotiations?

As Oldschool Redmen stated "Relax, the majority doesn't mean it's the majority if the majority want Lavin extended".

Edit: Ricky Smith's vote needs to be removed from the poll as he has admitted to being the evil Marco Baldi who is banned. Banned posters lose their voting privileges.
Jack Williams was not eligible to vote since he is a minor. Sorry Jack but rules are rules but when you turn 18 feel free to join the Marines and go to Syria and kill, kill, kill those ISIS scum! Oh, and bring me back some pita bread and Baba ghanoush.

That must mean we all get to vote twice.

So I voted for Lavin to stay. I know some people think we can do better but I am not so sure we can grab an established coach, who is a proven winner at the high D1 level, who would take the St. John's job. We probably would need to identify a youngish up and comer who is currently outside of the radar.

Here are the 16 coaches whose teams are in this year's Sweet Sixteen (see below). There is no one from this group I believe we would be able to hire right now. However if you could go back in time and get one of these guys as a young up and comer who would you choose and why?

1) John Calipari- Kentucky
2) Mike Brey- Notre Dame
3) Bo Ryan - Wisconsin
4) Sean Miller - Arizona
5) Bob Huggins - West Virginia
6) Gregg Marshall - Wichita State
7) Chris Mack - Xavier
8 - Roy Williams - North Carolina
9) Mike Krzyzewski - Duke
10) Mark Few - Gonzaga
11) Steve Alford - UCLA
12 Larry Krystkowiak - Utah
13) Rick Pitino - Louisville
14) Tom Izzo - Michigan State
15) Mark Gottfried - North Carolina State
16) Lon Kruger - Oklahoma

For some repeating something over and over and over and over makes them believe they are the majority. Unfortunately, this is America, land of the free and home of redmen.com and we only get one vote.
If this poll turns into a dead even tie however foreign born fans overseas will be allowed to cast the final vote. Since the biggest foreign fan is Gonzalo, I hereby nominate him as the tiebreaker should that occur.
Gonzalo, be prepared to be inundated with unwelcomed PMs. ;)

It seems clear that no one side can claim to speak for the overwhelming majority of St Johns fans.

61% say he should get extension. We discussed this earlier in the week when I said Zach was pandering to a majority that didn't exist. Now, here I am in your corner in the minority with Zach and most of my enemies. You and Avon better keep me from getting shanked.

First of all, we can't go back in time, so I'm not so sure of the premise. Also, I'm a bit puzzled by some of the names on that list. For example, what is Chris Mack doing in the company of the likes of Tom Izzo and Coach K, and where are Billy Donovan and Bill Self? Mack does have Xavier in the Sweet 16 (thank the Lord!), but he was out-coached by Lavin in this season's two meetings, and looked totally inept in the BE title game against Nova.

That's what happens when you draw a #14 seed in the second round. Nova would have beaten them by 25. It's all about match ups.

Too late kid! You made your bed with the wrong crowd. Eventually they will stab you in the back so be a man now and do the right thing.

The list of these sixteen coaches are the sixteen who are still alive in this year's tourney.

The choice was easy for me. Larry Krystkowiak of Utah.
Why? The reasons are many. He is Polish. Need I say what Dr. Fun will do with that alone?
His name begins with the letter "K". He will become our coach K without the rat face as he is a very viril and tall man who would intimidate players and referees alike. No messing with our coach K!
He spent time as an assistant for the then New Jersey Nets so he has paid his debt to society and lived in hell. He would leave Utah in a Salt Lake City hour. Why would he want to raise his children surrounded by Mormons? We all know how promiscuous they are with 5 wives and whatnot.
Finally, and most importantly, he is a 6'9 230 power forward and by the looks of our recruiting class we may need him to be player/coach next year.
As some would say here it's a no brainer!

Didn't get that. Over-ocular stimulation these past few days. (Also, I'm in a pissy mood after watching West Virginia beat Maryland; didn't want Big 12 to fare better than BE in the tournament.) Mea culpa.
