Coaching Carousel

Am I the only one who doesn't think this is a big deal?

And I should preface that by saying I've never been on the "Mas is super kewl" bandwagon. In fact, he reminds me of Jordan Belfort or at least Leo's depiction of him as in there's something sorta slimy behind that bespoke suit.

But I digress.....

He lied about a minor thing on their resume. And yes, graduating from college is pretty minor to me for a coaching job unless you like to shroud yourself in the sacredness of student-athletes and whatever other warm pablum comes from the NCAA.The highest team GPA in the nation and a losing record will get you fired.

So the sin here is that he lied. Show me the redmen.com poster who hasn't padded his resume and I will show you the hypocrite. Look into the mirror. Look into it and tell me what you see.

Yes Main Man, I will come clean right now in front of our vast membership on redmen.com. I embelished my resume' in order to get one of the highly competative positions as moderator. I never graduated from SJU -- with a major in comedic arts.

I throw myself at the mercy of the grand high exalted mistic ruler himself, Paul, and ask forgiveness.

Fluffing up a resume is one thing. Saying you graduated from a college when you didn't is quite another in my mind.

When you lie on your CV about the most easily verifiable thing on your resume it says something about your character. That character will be used by the university to shape young minds. His career is over just when it started. To leave for USF of all places showed him to be a small time crook and a dumb one at that. Karma bit him on the ass.

Lying about something of that magnitude shows a lot about a persons character. First it's lying on a resume, next it's cheating to land recruits?

It's too bad. I was one of the people impressed with him---someone on this site posted a video several weeks ago, showing the Manhattan practices and interviews with Masiello. He had a lot of fire--he actually reminded me somewhat of Mike Rice, but a more controlled version. The kids clearly respected his no-BS approach and you could see it in the results. Very unfortunate.

Instead of very unfortunate...how about VERY STUPID

You're right---incredibly stupid to blow a promising career this way. Especially when he looked to have so many of the tools that really count for coaching. It's not like he was trying to apply to med school.

One man's Fluff is another man's Nutella.
Except nutella does not lie. It clearly states there is no nutritional value at all to it. It just tastes so ridiculously good.

He didn't blow anything -- he'll finish his degree and get a job pretty quickly if Manhattan doesn't take him back.

If I'm USF I still give him the job BUT I rework his contract and pay him half of what was originally offered.

Sure, this raises question about his character but this was your guy prior to this coming out. He can coach basketball and everyone gets second chances if they are good at their job. Now they are going to take a second choice candidate and in a year or two USF won't have the guy they wanted and Masiello will be coaching a different team.

Not sure they can. Published requirements are Bachelor's and 8 years experience or Master's and 6 year's experience. Rutger's claimed no such requirement with Jordan I think.

Mindbogglingly stupid.

I know someone in my business who is at another company who does a lot of seminars and I know for a fact that when he was putting together his bio to be printed in a marketing booklet he was going to use he wrote in it that he graduated from Harvard. He actually gave that to his compliance manager because he thought they would never check because at the time he was probably 10 years removed from college and the firm he was at wasn't the firm that hired him out of college so he figured they would never check.

He's lucky the compliance mgr didn't send it up the chain when they found out he was lying and instead just busted him privately and told him to fix it. If it got published he definitely would have been fired after the fact

Freaking Morons

If you win, who cares how you got there? Certainly not ADs or university presidents or World Wide Wes or Rob Johnson or Sam Gilbert or Richie Perry.

College ball is based on the biggest lie in sports. Fibbing and cheating are merely prerequisites for success in the industry.

Looks like an instant replay of Rutgers Eddie Jordan not graduating. At least he kept the job.

Eddie Jordan lied about getting a degree from Rutgers while applying for the HC position at Rutgers? I don't remember that but that's just insanely stupid.

How are you dumb enough to lie about a degree. That is so easy to check.

Maybe he figured USF would be so thrilled to have him that they wouldn't bother to check.

So is a certain level of intelligence. Lying on his resume about his degree shows very little.
