Masiello to South Florida

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO......

Damn!! Right in our back yard, too.

No More Manhattan Coaches Ever

Each individual is different. Mahoney and Fran have literally nothing to do with whether or not Steve Maisello or John Doe who comes after him, will be an excellent coach.

You're leaving out a few. Bobby Gonzalez and Steve Lappas to name two.

Actually, there was another unsuccessful ex-Manhattan coach. He followed Pitino, at Providence, after Ricky left for the Celtics. I can't recall his name, but he didn't last very long.

Lavin would love nothing more than to make another 10 million. Twenty million over ten years is not too shabby. With some good investment planning he should be set for life when the next contract expires at 55. He can choose to live in Soho or Cali and find another hot wife if this one leaves him.

If she decides to leave him, he is going to need a lot more than 10 million!!!!!!!!

Pitino called Masiello to South Florida a slam dunk last weekend. BC and Wake are better jobs that USF. Sounds to me like Pitino didn't want him in the ACC with him if he could help it.

Maybe Pitino is positioning him to be the next Louisville coach. Unlikely to happen if he is already coaching in the ACC.

Slice is another one.

That's what I was thinking as well.

This coaching carousel topic is fine if we're talking about the whole landscape of college hoops. But relating any coaching hirings or firings to St. John's is ridiculous. Like it or not we have a coach and he's not going anywhere this year.

Masiello going to South Florida was a bad choice. There are some places that you just can't win and South Florida seems like one of them. Sure you might make an appearance in the tournament here and there but you're not ever going to be a big time program at South Florida. That being said, he is losing a lot off this year's team and maybe this was his shot to upgrade conferences. Manhattan goes .500 next year and no one is talking about him anymore

Before Sampson declared, my expectation was that Lavin would be extended and given a raise. Now, I'm not so sure. This whole move just reeks of something much more dysfunctional going on behind the scenes.

I, for one, was hoping to see Lavin extended to give the program stability and help with the the 2015 recruiting class. But with next year's outlook suddenly changing, and with the BE losing its luster, and with the prospects of getting back to the NCAA tournament maybe three years off at best, I wouldn't be surprised to see Lavin play out his contract and leave. He didn't come here to lose, to further tarnish his reputation as a coach, or to coach a mid-major program.

I feel Like we (and Georgetown) are the least dependent on the "Big East Luster". When the league is great and we are great we probably benefit the most. However if we become a 3 out of every 5 years type of tourney team we should be fine. If lavin were to leave our next hire should be a splashy one.

I would prefer it just be a good hire.
Coaches who know basketball and can recruit will make a name for themselves. Retreads have a harder time getting back their credibility.

Don't forget Chuck Martin and Slice. You know what, coaching basketball is hard. If it was easy everyone would do it. Good coaches get run out of town all the time, think Louis Orr at Seton Hall or Gary Waters at Rutgers. And these young upper and comers don't always match their success when they enter the big leagues.

The fact is this board would rather whine than win. This board would rather flip-flop than support. This board would rather build a kid up to high heaven than trash him as soon as he did something they didn't like.

Take Jakarr for example, this board had him as a one and done guy when he got recruited. Then after a Big East Rookie of the Year award we were hoping that he would just come back for 1 more year. Now that he decides to declare for the draft he is that thug who tried to choke somebody.

Jakarr is a very solid basketball player who gave two years to St John's. He enjoyed the benefits of a scholarship and in return tried his best to win the games he played. He gave us some thunderous dunks and some 15 footers and a reason to cheer and sometimes a reason to moan. He seemed like a positive guy and never did anything to embarrass himself or the university. And if you think he tried to choke someone you are dead wrong. So player padded him on the back he got emotional grabbed his jersey by a pushed off at his upper chest lower neck area. Was it right, no but anyone who has ever played sports has gotten carried away sometimes.

I am more embarrassed by the talk on this board than going to the NIT.

And until anyone says otherwise, I will continue to support our coach Steve Lavin and all the men in red.

And while we're at it, let's not forget Father Jasper.

If manhattan wont take him back, can we bring him on as an assistant coach or as associate head coach? #Wishfulthinking
