Coaching Carousel

I guess he knows he can always go back to the booth, but coaching jobs are fleeting.

Happy for him. He is a genuinely good dude.
That's exactly it. One day after he is no longer San Diego's coach for whatever reason, he'll have an offer to be back in the booth.

Actually, I'm sure he has a standing offer to return anytime.

The itch never goes away for these guys. Plus, padding the old bank account with a coach's salary for a minimum of four to six years is always nice.

In his case, it's literally a 7 year itch, because that's how long he sat out both times, in between coaching jobs.

Would it be too much revisionist history to think SJU should not have left Lavin go? I think I was so happy with the Mullin hire that I did not ever ponder whether Lavin deserved to go; or was it mutual because of his health?

That's SJU's photo introducing Lav as coach 12 YEARS AGO.
They even photoshopped the tie from red to blue.

That's also the picture we used for his bobblehead.

I only noticed it, because I packed up all my bobbleheads this past weekend, since I'm going to have to move soon (I'm staying local, so will still be at games).

Steve Lavin knows BB and what it takes to be a Coach . I think he kind of lost interest here , especially with Recruiting . He didn’t have much on the horizon coming in, when he was let go . And , Regardless of reasons , Obepka and Jordan were constant distractions to the team . But , as a person , you have to admire Lavin’s support of Jordan through his incarceration . It says a lot about Steve’s character .

While Lavin probably led us to our two biggest seasons in recent memory, he did also leave us with a poor roster towards the end and I remember him “quitting” recruiting because he didn’t get an extension and was a lame duck his last year. He was a great recruiter but a bad in game coach that left many very frustrated.
