Hardest part as a SJU fan is maintaining any level of excitement.  Often we try to be overly optimistic, probably as a mechanism just to keep trying to enjoy SJU basketball, but it seems no matter what we do, we almost never get “there”.

I know the athletic department wants and needs money for this program but decades of inability to really do anything positive on the basketball court is not making it easy to bring money in because keeping hope alive as a SJU fan is extremely difficult.

I know we had roster turnover this year but it making either the NCAA nor NIT is an abject failure, whatever the cause may be.  I will say that Arkansas and Musselman are absolutely crushing it, and the talent and coaching are both better than when cma was there.

Seems it’s both coaching and recruiting and something needs to change soon enough unless we start getting the talent on the court at the same time to actually play with some consistency.   I don’t know where the talent is going to come from entering next season to be any better than this year, especially losing Champs and more.

A school that had never fired its coach just fired its coach.  And I can assure you he makes much less than Mike Anderson.

The Steele versus Anderson comparison is apples to oranges, though.

Yes, Steele never had a losing season there.  He also stepped into a gold mine.  A program that was consistently in the dance for two decades, and had years where they did some real damage once there, including recently.  And he's a first team HC with no resume to speak of.  Completely different than Anderson and SJU.  It's more akin to St. Johns and Mahoney, IMO.

Xavier actually won an NIT game last night, but cut bait immediately. Perhaps they want to close on somebody quickly before someone else does.

Again this does not mean I think Mike Anderson deserved to get fired, I don't think that would have been fair after 3 years.

But people sitting here making excuses for some really mediocre basketball over 3 years when we were TOLD THAT THIS WAS A GREAT HIRE because of his 17 year record at the time of the hire is mind boggling.

Let me ask the board something, let's say SJU hired a HM assistant or mid major coach instead of CMA in 2019.  Do you think that hypothetical coach could have matched this 3 year run?  Yeah and no one would have thought that was anything to write home about.

I mean a few weeks ago a poster compared SJU to Providence and Cooley saying it took Cooley a decade plus to have as good a team as he had this year somehow implying that Anderson deserves the same consideration is beyond laughable.

Be clear CMA is one of the top 4 highest paid coaches in this league.  He came with a resume.  He should get held to a higher standard.

Make no mistake this is an ENORMOUS year for him here.

Sources: Archie Miller is a serious candidate to be the next head coach at Rhode Island. Former head coach at both Dayton and Indiana.

Recently met with the school this week.

However, they didn't cover.

I don't think he'll be offered, but I just want to say that I think Pitino could legitimately challenge for a national championship at Xavier.

If they are thinking of bringing Miller back, maybe he should try to make amends with the longtime loyal assistant he completely screwed over.

Heck they were a no. 1 seed 4 years ago in Mack's last year.

I don't think Book will be coaching in CBB anytime soon...LOL

Be interesting with Miller.  Not sure if he was directly implicated in anything or if NCAA will impose a show cause penalty on him in the future.  Doesn't look like he has one now.
