South Carolina has parted ways with Frank Martin per Rothstein

I guess taking a team to a Final Four at a football-centric school is still not enough.  crazy,

Martin is 75-72 in the five seasons since his final four appearance.

I wonder if Sean Miller is contacted by X or Mack

He certainly made the least of that roster, that's for sure.

Blowing a 6 point lead with under a minute left against Butler in the Big East Tournament sealed his fate, IMO.

I'm sure most of our fans saw this, while waiting for our game with DePaul to start.  There was an off-the-ball offensive foul on an inbounds play (don't recall seeing that before, not in a close spot anyway), 4 missed FTs on one possession, then Scruggs gets a basket to break a tie, misses the free throw, but obviously thinking they were up by 3, he commits what certainly looked like a purposeful foul at midcourt, allowing Butler to tie the score.  Obviously, something was missed in the communication there.

Don't forget he made the NIT this year and won a game last night and was still let go.  Hard to believe right?

Not to mention his wife's parents are super rich and big boosters to the Xavier athletic department

Did Travis Steele just become the first coach in Xavier history to win their last game? Interesting to see if he has to go back to the assistants chair or if he even warrants a good low-mid major opening.

Xavier had reeled in the perfect class of recruits for the Big East in Tyrell Ward, Kam Craft, and Desmond Claude. All three unsure of what will be next for them, but, if made available again — will all be heavily pursued.

That's also what I hear a lot on this board the price of "starting over" and "retention."

So not only did Xavier fire a coach who never had a losing season and made the NIT this year but had a STELLAR recruiting class coming in.  And yet they decided to start over...

Fanta;

Xavier AD Greg Christopher: "Our expectations for Xavier Basketball remain steadfast: we expect to compete for the Big East Championship and to compete and advance in the NCAA tournament."

The Steele versus Anderson comparison is apples to oranges, though.

Yes, Steele never had a losing season there.  He also stepped into a gold mine.  A program that was consistently in the dance for two decades, and had years where they did some real damage once there, including recently.  And he's a first team HC with no resume to speak of.  Completely different than Anderson and SJU.  It's more akin to St. Johns and Mahoney, IMO.
