Christian Jones

So much dramma for the 13th man. Lavin see's something in the kid give it a break. Judge the kid after he graduates or leaves, not before he gets here.

1. He may not be the 13th man.
2. He may have gotten 15 minutes a game on last year's team.
3. He will be a punisher in practices.
4. Great pick up!

The article says that Jones chose SJU because of the coaching staff. Jones feels that the coaching staff produces pros. He also cites that he knew some of the players on the team which helped his decision.

The article says he is 6'7'' and weighs 220. and says this: "I can handle the ball under pressure," said Jones. "Inside, I can use my strength and leaping ability. I can shoot midrange and my threes are getting better."

I'm not sure why you guys dont immediately see this upon viewing the tape on this kid, but he looks like an absolute MANCHILD. Beast. 6'6 athletic lane filler that can develop into a great defender and down the road can be a huge contributer. #hammertorock

"But he wasnt highly recruited!" I get it. But okla state and auburn still wanted him, and it doesn't really matter how highly recruited the kid is...the film speaks for itself --- he can jump out of the gym and is jacked. The staff can mold him into a good player down the line. Absolutely love him to round out an unbelievable class. I personally have HUGE expectations this year and believe that this ultra-atheltic SJU squad will make the NCAA tourney in an otherwise diluted big east.

We all know Lavin is a wordsmith and what coach/fan doesn't use a little hyperbole here or there when dealing with new recruits and their expectations. Fact is there is little downside to bringing this kid in at the 11th hour and he must have some impact if he was brought in whether it be developing to play down the line in 2 or 3 years or getting solid PT this fall.

Whenever I see late unranked guys I immediately think of Craig Smith and Jared Dudley of BC and hope they turn out like that.

Exactly, no body new who Marshon Brooks was coming out and eventually became the leading scorer in the big east and a 1st round pick

kid kind of reminds me of Charles Mineland.

If Jones, as our 13th player, plays like Mineland (one of my all time favorites Johnnies), we're going deep into the tourney.

I liked Mineland as player also but Mineland had nowhere near a 40' vertical leap like Jones does and I don't remember Mineland being as jacked as Jones is. Mineland was also about 6'5 barely although he was listed at 6'6. I met Mineland at Kennedy Airport one time when I was on my way to France.

Not sure that at this stage of his careers it is fair to compare Christian Jones to Charles Minland.

Minlend came to St. John's from Yaounde, Cameroon, in West Africa by way of Connecticut's St. Thomas More. He was a sought after recruit that had offers from a number of top college basketball programs (Georgetown, Boston College, Yukon, and others). Minland chose St. John's over Georgetown because of the School of Pharmacy's five-year program. [trivia: Charles brother, Ray played at St. Francis College.]

Christian Jones on the other hand does not have a national ranking by any of the public recruiting services.

Lets hope that Christian has a career as productive as Charles Minland.

Please people, this is killing me. Not Minland, Mineland nor Minland. It's Charles Minlend.

I've always wondered how people could continuously butcher the names of players from their favorite team(s). Heck! There are several posters who have butchered the spelling of (Chris) Mullin for years.

I called Austour " Austor " for probably 10 years and I never would have known I was writing it wrong till he told me at the UCLA game in Cali. lol

Now I'm just set in my ways and lazy to change
