I agree with what a lot of people are saying re: recruit rankings. It's not an exact science, and there are plenty of examples of kids who fly under the radar.
Point 1-
But there's a difference between being under the radar, and not on the radar. Jones has zero stars from Rivals. Now that might turn out to mean less than nothing, he could be a fantastic player. But it could also mean we're looking at a highlight reel and his in game play leaves a lot to be desired.
Point 2-
I trust the staff, but it's not treason to question their decisions. Everyone who's saying that Jones as a 13th man on the roster isn't a problem, and is an uprgrade over what we've had is right. All true. But I'm also confident that there are players of Jones's caliber that play other positions that were/are available. If Lavin wants to use all the 'ships, that's fine, but I think an argument could be made we need a backup pg, and backup C much more than a combo forward.
Point 3-
It's true that not every player on our roster needs to be a top ranked recruit.
But it's also an exaggeration to say no one comes close to that. The majority of the Syracuse and Louisville rosters were at least notable recruits. Many top 150s, and no one that I can find who was below 3 stars. And only 1 or 2 of those. Not coincidentally, those were the best teams in the BE last season, and probably will be again.
Just my 2 cents.
Hearing the name Sean Evans made me cringe. I realize he was good for the last half of his senior year, but I'm still traumatized from his other 3.5 seasons.

evans was coached up...as were some of the others, most notably dj kennedy...
our 10/11/12/13th players are guys who wouldn't have picked up the phone if one of our coaches called a few years ago.
Exactly, I can't wait for the season to start. Some of these nonconference teams won't even be able to get the ball past half court. Just think about how athletic our big men are!! Let alone our forwards who are all basically stretch forwards if needed (too excited).. Ps does anyone know how old Sanchez is? He looks like a grown man ha, I know he played with the DR national team. Can't wait to see him Sampson and Obekpa down low
As noted Christian Jones is unranked by ESPN, Rivals and Scout. Both ESPN and Scout did not have Jones even listed prior to his commitment to St. John's.
I have attempted to think of any former St. John's recruits that were also not ranked by any of the national services.
Initially I though of Heath Orvis (recall when the talking points for many posters on this site was that Heath was a shooter) but Heath was a McDonald's All American nominee which would appear that he may have had a ranking.
Next, Alpha Bangura came to mind as a St. John's recruit that may not have been ranked by national data bases. Unfortunately the recruiting data bases do not go back to when he was recruited out of high school but he was listed as a first team Prince George Maryland County which would make it likely that Alpha had some national ranking before proceeding on to Monmouth, achieving NEC frosh of the year and transferring to St. John's.
Can anyone think of a St. John's recruit that lacked any national ranking besides Mr. Jones?
Thanks.
So he will basically be a one-and-done?

Pretty sure anyone can be 'nominated' for the McDonalds game.
