Chris Obekpa

Obekpa has better hands than GG though and is a killer on the glass. It goes a long way.

Right on point.....We don't need offense from the middle, his points will come from put backs and dishes from penetration.

We need a center to shot-block and and clean the defensive glass

Per Rivals.... Obekpa checks in at #3.

3. Christopher Obekpa
School: Centereach (N.Y.) Our Savior
The Buzz: There aren't many players in the class of 2012 who can protect the rim like the 6-foot-8 Obekpa. A long-armed shot-blocker, Obekpa has great timing and uses either hand to swat shots. One of the top remaining available players, his offense is better than he's been given credit for

I'm also very intriguied about this kid. I've been interested about him for about a month. I hope we've reached out to him.

2. Anthony January
School: Woodland Hills (Calif.) Taft
The Buzz: A long and athletic talented forward, the flashes shown by January have kept him in the Rivals150. Now a senior, he's been one of California's top players and has improved his skill, output and consistency to the point that he's looking at a making a nice jump in the final rankings. He's one of the top remaining unsigned prospects in the country.

Unfortunately it tells us almost nothing important. We need obekpa a heck of a lot more than Balamou, but both would be more than fine.

While I agree, Obekpa appears to be all over the map and Balamou will be offered as long as Obekpa is on the table. Neither player seems to be expressing their preference for SJ so neither may be in the cards IMO. Lav spending a great deal of time west of the Mississippi recruiting other 6'8 guys is not a coincidence IMO.

Balamou would love an offer here. Obekpa hasn't shown his cards so nobody knows. Bottom line is that I don't think we're signing Balamou without Obekpa, even if Balamou is a decent player. If Obekpa wants Balamou to come along, the it will probably be done because Balamou is a good enough player and athlete for us to make a concession like that. I wouldn't say that just because they aren't publicly expressing interest it means much of anything.

I completely agree '72. Can't be a coincidence that he's been looking under every rock out west for a big man. Don't think we're in great shape with Obekpa. For a kid from Queens I think we would've heard more if he was leaning towards us. Instead it's been silence.

Sampson is another issue however. Still think we're in good shape with him.

Fwiw, Lavin is looking for a few because we need a few, not necessarily because we're not in good shape with one guy.

Even if we are In good shape w Obekpa{ I dont know if we are}, Lavin has to have a backup plan.

Per Zags, Obekpa to visit Cincy this week

Adam Zagoria @AdamZagoria

Chris Obekpa, 6-9 shot-blocking big man from Our Savior, will visit Cincinnati Wed-Fri for the Louisville game, Eric Jaklitsch tells @SNYtv

With these rash of visits it seems that he made up his mind but just double checking and being respectful to all the coaches who recruited him.

Providence is borderline unethical at this point. They don't have a single graduating senior scholarship player to my knowedge, but they are bringing in Ledo, Dunn, Fortune, and Sidiki...yet they are still recruiting Sampson, Obekpa, Noel, and others HARD?

What's the plan to just force kids off the roster?

Add to that they are saying on the Friars boards that Sanchez is 99% done. Where are they getting all these schollies?
