Yes but just because he's a better short blocker doesn't mean he's a better defender. He does still have room for improvement on other aspects of his defense as well as his offense generally.

I actually noticed that he got less blocks the better he played defensively and on the boards. It's like a CB that takes too many chances and racks up a ton of INTs...it doesn't mean that he is playing better than guys that only have a few picks. It usually means the are more reckless.
 
Dieng might not be the best comparison for Obekpa. Dieng was a freaking giant and dwarfed Obekpa when they stood next to each other. Obekpa is 6'8 (probably 6'7), but has once-in-a-decade timing/instincts. He is much more mobile than Dieng and much less skilled. He's a 20-25 mpg guy. Sampson is a 30+ mpg guy.

There was an article this year where Lavin said Obekpa was 6'7.5"

I actually found it shocking that a coach would be truthful about a player's height.

The timing/instincts should get him to the NBA even at that height, but he needs to really work on his game if he wants to get off the bench there for meaningful minutes.

Most of the guys who make it and stick, bust it. Guy playing the middle for Indy got thrown around plenty in the BE. He don't much get pushed around now.

From this recent tweet, either he has grown a bit or the 6'7" thing is wrong. Looks pretty tall.

How could you gauge the kid's height standing next to someone whose height we don't know? That guy looks like he's 5'6 and they are in a room with low ceilings. He might very well be 6'9, but 6'7.5 or 6'9 could never be proven from this photo.

Not trying to prove anything. Just thought he looked tall relative to trailer and the dude.
 
I have seen Obekpa at the on campus Starbucks in D'Angelo. He doubles as the world trade center.
