Chris Obekpa

Kid is looking at his options. Nothing wrong with that. Not sure why he'd choose Depaul at this juncture, but we'll see.

Perhaps cause he thinks he will be recruited over at St. johns, knowing Lavins reputation for great recruiting? Who knows how these kids think?

He'll be recruited over and any and every Big East or other major conference school. It's called competition and is what happens in competitive leagues. He won't find many programs like SJU though, with zero post players on the existing roster to compete with.

He is at DePaul right now, but will be visiting St.John's later this week. He is just checking out his options at this time as per sources.

Glad to hear he'll be at St. John's later in the week. Appreciate the info, Smooth!

Per Rivals....

5. Is Obekpa more than just a shot blocker?

It's not that there is much doubt about whether or not Christopher Obekpa belongs on the list of the nation's premier shot blockers. We are just curious to get another couple of looks at the athletic 6-foot-8 insider from Centerreach (N.Y.) Our Savior New American. In addition to getting another look at his shot blocking and rebounding prowess, we'll be looking to evaluate his offense more closely. While he didn't finish particularly well last weekend at the Hoophall Classic, he showed some touch and form on his jumper, along with quick spin moves to suggest that he's not quite as offensively limited as some have made him out to be.

he's only 6'8"? i thought he would be taller based on his shot blocking and people saying he would be our center

A long, 6'8 guy (which, he is) can certainly get away with playing center on the collegiate level.

John/MCNPA etc

We already "got our share" of top recruits this year and Coach Lavin seems confident he'll put together another fine class for 2012 and that's good by me. We're one of the big boys now and are fearless against the Kys, Dukes, UConns et al. A older attorney/SJU graduate this morning said "SJU cannot compete with the powerhouses" and he was too busy to wait for my lesson on the new improved "Lavin era". Whatever.

All I know, as just one example, Harless switched to SJU from Storrs when it was only the other way around this past decade.

all the best

AGREE!!

Obekpa is currently on an official visit at DePaul. He is believed to have St.John's on that list, but DePaul has become a heavy player in recruitment.

Thought I would share his official twitter:!/christopherewao

(Nothing posted from it yet though)

Really hope Coach lands Christopher. Don't think we are recruiting anyone else with his skillset. Need someone on the backend to clean up the defensive breakdowns.

I really hope we land Chris. But I can see the second guessing now if we don't land him. Gathers and Sampson are great but neither of them are a center. And Gift will be a senior. That means we have another season with no backup to gift, and will have to start a freshmen/juco in 2013.

Really hope there is another big man out there that we were involved with as a backup in case we lose out on Obekpa.

Would be an amazing haul if we could get Obekpa, Gathers, and Sheppard/Sampson.

Surprised to see McGary fall so far in the rankings. Pitt always seems to pull a nuggest out of the class. Everytime you scroll down AZ is mentioned. Should be a great team with the last 2 classes.

McGary's stock is absolutely plummeting. Somewhere SJUFan2 is in tears.

I think few people, including myself, were hopng SJU would get involved with him. I wish i would have taped the Brewester vs Noel game to see how he rocked. I was more focused on Sampson.
