Chris Obekpa

...from Jon Rothstein's column linked below:

"We’re hearing that Cincinnati has emerged as the favorite for Our Savior New American big man Chris Obekpa. The 6-foot-9 shot blocking machine is also considering St. John’s and Oregon. Many scouts have compared Obekpa to NBA star Tyrus Thomas. The 2012 center would likely start immediately for the Bearcats next season in place of the graduated Yancy Gates."

Oh Rothstein.
Is it scouts saying this or is it him with his asinine comparisons and now backing it up saying its scouts.

Rothstein opens his window and HEARS THINGS. More likely reads things and then repeats them.

Well Obekpa has visit still to go so no decision was expected.
Sanchez are Marco are visiting other schools and at STJ last in a few weeks.
And whats the rush to ink Chandler when there is still work to be done to ensure he is eligible next year.

can you please stop being LOGICAL!!!

While everything that has been said about patience makes sense, some fans need something positive at this time
Even hearing that Felix and JaKarr signed their LOI's would be welcome to some at this point

I understand that some fans need to hear something positive, but there is nothing to report at the moment. Do some fans want people to make up positive material just for the sake of doing so? There is still an entire month left for the late signing period. Unfortunately, those fans are going to have to display patience or stay away from the board until the last day (May 16th) of the spring signing period.

I'm not sure whether Balamou or Sampson has signed their LOI's. But, I'm thinking they haven't since nothing has been mentioned by the school. Hopefully, those two have faxed or will soon fax in their paperwork.

 Countdown checklist

SG-3LO
PG-Branch
Combo Guard- Phil G
D Combo Guard- Felix
Wing- Sir Dom
Wing-Amir
4/5- Gift
3/4- Jakarr
5- Pending
4/5- Pending
Spot up wing- Pending
Reserve true point guard- Pending

That's 12 filled schollies with at least two for 2013 in the vacancy and Gift graduation. Does Lavs bring in all four pending at high quality level?

There is a belief the staff is trying to bring in Chandler, Sanchez, Bourgault, and Obekpa or Nolan (if he doesn't prep). Maybe, there is a kid or two abroad that has caught the attention of the staff.

I'm sure most, if not all, of these questions will be answered in the next few weeks. Hopefully, those questions will be answered (overwhelmingly) in our favor. ;)

and don't forget the spot up wing position could be filled by Max Hooper. The Harvard transfer.

That'll be filled by Bourgault. I could be wrong, but I believe Hooper will become eligible in 2013.

For the reserve point guard... is Darrick Wood still thinking Johnnies even after the decommitment?

Phil Greene is our reserve point guard. Wood doesn't seem to be in the cards any longer.

MJ - Is wood going to Prep another year, or go Juco? all this silence....hmmm...nothing spoken about w/ MD either the past couple of months. And now MD will be done with Sam C Jr. - if dad doesn't give him an SLK to go to USF or FSU! lol Only legal bribe allowed - from 59 MIL dad....he he he

I hope Obekpa comes back and the first thing he says is, "I'm not going to Oregon. That hardwood floor looks awful!"

I want the AD's office to get hooked up with Under Armour real bad. Have they even talked with Kevin Plank? just saw him 2 weeks ago. He is as pumped as ever - "No Loser Talk!" I love it...

This is sayin that Obekpa is down to St Johns and the Bearcats

Article also says he will decide early during the spring signing period
With a visit to Oregon slated for 4/22- 4./24, we already know that such will not be the case
Several posters have speculated that Obekpa is heading to Cincy
I sure hope they are wrong - I would love to see him in red and white

Yea people do think cincy has him locked up, but I thought for sure Kansas had Jakarr and look what happened.
